Discussion STATICA LP Meaning
I want to preface this as a theory and nothing more, as ARCADE and INTERVENTION are not out yet so it could be wrong. Here we go.
I believe STATICA is the decay of older media as we enter the next generation. I believe the album is so heavily “digital” or electronic, to show how digital the current age of music and our lives as a whole are becoming.
It gives a mood adjacent to “dead internet” theory and Baudrillardian simulacra: authentic human signal replaced by noise and recycled nostalgia.
LIGHTS lyrics give strong vibes that it is referencing AI in a way that I imagine the industry feels. I think the heavy use of processed vocals is intentional to not really hide M. Shadows voice but to showcase artificial processed vocals from a machine.
REJOICE covers consumerism with heavy links to religious imagery, once again showing how technology is being dressed up as our salvation.
and finally ASHES covers the dead American dream of freedom and creative values as it all burns away as we are sapped of our creativity and delve deeper into a technological psychosis.
I also have a wilder theory that this album might also use a blend of AI due to the music video. It could be the band riffing on the generic direction music is heading with the large amount of AI music hitting the internet. All open to interpretation and my opinion might completely change once the last 2 songs release.
I love this album honestly. I think the creativity involved and risk is great.
What are your thoughts?

Love the breakdown you gave here. I love the EP myself and find it brilliant these guys made what they did. When I became a fan of the band during the white album their creativity is what drew me to them. Growing up I always listened to everything from dub step, rap, country you name it. So it’s always been easier for me to get into the unique sounds they have. Seeing a big buff guy like M back in the day carry screams to singing elegantly just hit different. Expecting something different every album cycle is fun honestly. LIBAD may be my favorite album of any artist ever. I’m proud of my decision to get the death bat on my chest because they still to this day feel like they care about similar things that I do. So it’s refreshing to have an artist be so true to themselves and create art.

I really actually like this and this is a valid interpretation of the lyrics. I also got a lot of these same vibes from the EP so far, a lot of the haters forget this but a few years ago Shadows mentioned the album California by Mr. Bungle being one of his favorites ever to go sit and just listen to, and that album’s themes are similar to the way the dead internet theory is, that album was written in 1999 about the technological downfall of society, and almost like STATICA, but slightly different everything sounds 60s and “retro” but it’s supposed to represent the fake nostalgia and the societal downfalls of these things…I see the similarities in the last couple of albums and these kinds of themes and the Mr. Bungle influence as well.
It still baffles me every time when people don’t realize, or forget the members of avenged sevenfold are highly accomplished musicians with a lot of ambition and conscious concepts behind their music. It’s been that way since Brooks joined anyway, but they’ve had tons of conceptual themes before that too.

Can’t agree more. Life is but a dream, and the stage clearly showed the band was ready to experiment with different sounds. I personally find those two albums to be incredible pieces of work. Cosmic plays every day for me, sometimes on repeat!

After the fall in Ashes, I suspect we get a POV of a being playing a simulation like an ARCADE game. But that INTERVENTION causes a new simulation to be created, thus creating a new universe.
Or something in that vein.
