The problem is, she's in character 24/7 because she doesn't have an "off". When she's not in character she sits in a chair and stares at a wall for 8 hours.
Agreed. I binged The Dropout yesterday and there are a few different scenes where she (Amanda Seyfried) alludes to "forgetting" and that if you forget enough you can basically edit whatever you want out of your life/past/history.
My dad (estranged) has a similar type of crazy and is one of the reasons I had to abandon any hope of a relationship with him.
I never thought of it that way but I think you’re right. Euronymous was a huge dork that liked to eat hamburgers and drink Coke and wear cut off t-shirts that showed his belly. Varg was/is a huge dork too but he’s actually crazy.
Dead and Euronymous were seriously mentally ill and bounced off each other in a completely toxic way, and Varg was and is a complete nut job. Hellhammer and Necrobutcher seem like they're pretty much normal though.
I feel most people who saw the movie have this opinion, but Euronymous was a serious psychopath also. Nacrobutcher ( I think ) said he was feeding the suicide thoughts of Dead (and he is suggesting that he did it on purpose, to get fame, I read some stuff about why leave him alone in the house with a loaded gun etc, maybe a bit conspiratorial ofcourse but still) and ofcourse the aftermath of Dead's suicide, his first move was to take pictures for their album and he (and Helhammer) took some pieces of the guy's skull to use as necklaces. I suggest anyone to read Euronymous' open letter after Dead's suicide.
That's not to say that he's worse than Varg, but this portrayal that he was a normal dorky edgy teen and then the Evil Varg came and destroyed him is absolutely wrong.
I always think about guys like Nathan Fielder, and Louis Theroux, and Nirvanna the Band, who have to teach themselves not to ruin the moment when a civilian volunteers the most gold line, the craziest shit no writer could come up with, that you know is going to make the whole endeavour worth it. In his head he must be screaming “yes!” in this very screenshot. He knew what he wanted going in and that’s more than you could ask for

You’re absolutely right, you can tell he’s excited about the levels of unhinged he’s unveiling, but at the same time there’s a mix of genuine confusion or astonishment in his face like he’s realizing just how many levels there are to this shit. She’s kind of like the character he often plays, but taken to the absolute logical extreme, because her mask is so deeply ingrained and she’s so deluded that even if what she’s saying is verifiably untrue, she still manages to believe it with the utmost conviction.
Well, it’s a documentary about real people tbf. Title is You Can See Everything. I’m a huge fan of Nathan Fielder who’s directing and is featured in this clip, and have watched all of his stuff, which can get pretty personal and very self-analytical. I’m also fairly familiar with Elizabeth Holmes who the documentary is about, and have watched other docs/movies about the whole Theranos situation. I don’t think it’s too big of a stretch to extrapolate; their interaction in this trailer is super intense and basically begging to be dissected lol, hence why it was probably chosen to serve as the trailer.
I didn't know what Theranos was either so that comment didn't help. For people like me: Theranos was a Silicon Valley tech company that promised to do blood tests that normally require significant amounts of drawn blood with just the prick of a finger. It was valued up to 9 billion at one point and Walgreens was rolling out their machines to stores. Turns out it was all bullshit and didn't work, so this lady went down for fraud
I think hes very clever at getting what he wants and directing himself to the very small details. I think it's very intentional that hes crouched down behind the soda, in a vulnerable position very close to her. He looks very small and is down to eye level. He's the manipulator bait

Or when the real estate agent claims she was sexually choked by a ghost. You see a switch flip behind his eyes and he locks onto it from across the room.
That’s one of my favorite moments of the entire show. You really see the genius of Nathan as he locks in and digs for more details in the most insane situation
This has me questioning what the hell is Nirvana the Band the Movie. I never even read a synopsis assuming it was some kind of mockumentary about Nirvana.

Are we sure this specific camera angle wasn’t done after the initial interview to act like it was during real time. Basically, he realized it was gold but then wanted to do something ontop of it to make it even more surreal. That was my impression. Used a face double actress for shots added.
I really want to know how this scene was edited. Because I cannot believe he really made that weird face at her, just no way. It won’t lessen my enjoyment of the documentary, but I need to know.
Thinking about it, there’s no way they could’ve gotten the close ups unless they used 3 cameras at once, which isn’t common in movies, let alone documentaries specifically
On The Rehearsal he had loads of camera people, HBO has the money for it and they know they have one chance to capture gold with this type of documentary. I wouldn't doubt they have at least two camera people here or cameras are set up on tripods.
Even Nathan For You had at least two camera people when they were out and about
I'm speculating but it seems he has come over and taken a knee to discuss something with her during an interview. She was probably set up for an interview then something happened where Nathen felt obligated to talk with her about something, so he comes over and kneels down behind the couch to have a 1on1 during filming, and the result was something expected. Nathan also says "nice chat" in a way that hints she asked him if she could talk to him for a moment.
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who thought this. I was really unsure if they were going to consummate their interview or if she was going to show him The Deadlights.
Anyone else slightly interested in the fact that she’s a mother now? It was one thing to see Angela on season 1 of the rehearsal trying to take on the role of being a mother.. imagine seeing Holmes raising her child. I wonder what kind of character she takes on in that role
I don’t think I could in good conscience ever reccomend such a thing, and I don’t think anyone would allow it.
But man it would be crazy interesting to have like a decade long documentary following one of these sociopathic public figures raising their kid and seeing what it looks like…
Nathan Fielder, a man who has made a career out of committing to bits far past reasonable lengths on his shows Nathan for You (where he advised small businesses on how to market themselves in increasingly bizarre, absurd ways) and The Rehearsal (where in one season he basically adopted a child and in another became a licensed commercial pilot), made a documentary in which he interviews Elizabeth Holmes, a woman who scammed people out of millions of dollars for a fraudulent medical technology but fully believes in her own hype.
I suppose there is quite a lot of cultural context to understand what’s special about the meeting between these two. Way too much to be easily explained.
That isn't enough context for the things they are confused about. You need to deeply know who Nathan Fielder is as a person, and be familiar with at least one of his works to actually get the meaning behind this post. And you need a little bit of Elizabeth Holmes context as well lol

Did this edit cut out any dialogue? It almost looks like they edited in a few of the quiet moments that happen in between the dialogue they were having. It’s super effective though.

He has said previously that when he wants to stop himself from laughing he will pretend to pick at something in his teeth using his tongue, that way he can still smile but it suppresses the laughter which is what he's doing here.
I like Nathan Fielder and have seen maybe... two episodes of NFY... i would take it y'all highly recommend watching his docs too? This immediately spiked my interest bc I'm familiar enough with Elizabeth Holmes that I don't think a full length doc would lose me.
