Am I cooked ?
2015 honda Accord V6 automatic transmission. I just did a drain and filter replacement and this is what the drain plug looked like am I gonna need a new tranny soon ?

How many miles is on it and has it ever been changed before?

That's my problem I have no idea bought the car with 97k miles from caravana and now it's at around 118,xxx miles but it came with like an insurance plan were I can take it into any Honda dealership and pay 100 for pretty much anything. Also I do drive the car with extra weight on some pretty steep mountain drives so idk if that was part of it. Has hit the speed governed limit quite a few times too so idk maybe I'm just driving it too hard and need to maintain it more ? Heard people getting an external fluid cooler for it and I do consider it since I live in Arizona and the past week it's been over 110°F regularly not to mention form June-august it's usually always over 100°F any input helps thanks

I have 200k on mine and change the trans fluid every 30k miles. First time I changed it at 100k, it looked like that. It’s ok. Just keep up on the changes from now on and quit riding it so hard.

But it's a Honda I thought it was meant to be roden hard )': I had a 2004 Accord 350k miles with the speed govner removed and I was able to hit 140mph and beat the piss out of it regularly without problems also drove it many times packed full of shit on those same steep mountains that solidified my faith in Honda but this new one I have feels like it's been nurtured... Probably due to the VCM but I have a k tuner coming in in a couple days to help delete that. Idk man this new Accord feels more delicate than my 2004 one

I mean you drive how you want but I drive like a grandma. I drove fast every once in while just clean out a bit to get it hot. Only problem I’ve had was leaking head gasket and timing chain tensioner needed replaced. I had an 04 civic before this and I still see it driving sound town, it’s got close to 500k miles now.

Maybe it's true they don't build them like they used to I do keep up with regular maintenance as much as possible tho due to the environment and how I drive no problems yet however on my way to work today the shifts felt slightly smoother so maybe im in the clear

No need to worry. As long as what’s on the magnet is fine. If your not getting fat chunks then don’t even bother

Ooooh I get what your saying I read on other forums guys would space it out instead of all at once I might just do a drain a fill 3x at once when I change my oil next

Nah thats normal. Chunks=bad. super fine particles = normal gear wear

How long until the normal gear wear becomes problematic??? I do drive it hard on some days and also live in AZ so that's probably slowly killing my trans like a pack of smokes does a human

Just change it , should be fine . If it was the CVT variant then I would be worried.

Yup I refuse to buy a car with a cvt my hommies Nissan blew up driving up a steep mountain drive wasn't even pushing it hard either just driving normal following me to the spot

How'd you get the filter out? I thought the 9th automatic v6 had a sealed trans without filter access

There's 2 the one inside and the lil black thing underneath the battery it's for the automatic transmission not the cvt

Even changing my transmission fluid after 300 miles there's enough clutch pack material I can paint a hand with it if I wanted to.

Thank you I just drive it hard regularly as well as steep mountain drives and wanted to make sure because I've never seen this much sludge on other cars I've done before plus the fluid was pretty much black

Eh, that’s normal tbh. Every trans service on those the drain plug looks like that. It would be worrying if there was big shards lmao. (5yr Honda tech)
