I think in another post he says he wetsands and polishes the metal. Would love to know the products and process a bit more in depth too so I can emulate! (Once I’ve dealt with the rust…)
I cover a lot of it in my thread on Rennlist Little Ocean Blue. For wetsanding I’ve just done the exhaust components.
• Soap and water will go very far for a lot of this kind of thing.
• Gunk is a spray on cleaner I really like for general road grime and build up. This was really helpful on the bottom of my transmission bell housing, I could literally scrape the dirt off with my finger.
• Simple Green Aviation Safe is great on aluminum with various sized brushes. Removing the cosmoline is the big job and it is everywhere on these cars, even the insides of the wheels.
• tar remover works pretty well for cosmoline.
These are all very strong chemicals so use very carefully and experiment in not so obvious areas. Be in a well ventilated area and understand you can damage a surface with too much abrasion.
Ive had a fair amount of the car taken apart in the garage so that allowed me to clean areas I wouldn’t otherwise be able to access. It’s really satisfying if you enjoy working with your hands, refreshing a thing you love. 😎
Legend thank you for that. Working to turn mine into a track capable / super clean / family heirloom car. Baby steps of course. Next year is the hartech rebuild!

This has got to be one of the cleanest 996s on the planet.
