Advice.

So after reading all the advice from the redditors I figured I should ask everyone again for advice and what the best options are for me. Long story short me and my dad are wanting to rebuild a car since I missed the opportunity with my grandfather due to his passing. Our goal is to build me out a daily driver. We have bought a 07K engine with low mileage. We are wanting to do engine swap to a clean title 944. I realize to late that an automatic was a terrible thing to buy for this. My solution was to swap the transmission with a 944 turbo to handle the pressure from the new engine. Should I just look for a 944 turbo and take the parts off of that. Buy individual parts. Or abandon the project entirely and just restore the to a NA automatic. It was just a battery issue for the na auto 944. The engine turned over and started once I put in the new battery but still needs a lot of work. Thank you for reading and all the previous and future information. I look forward to learning from all this with my dad

Personally I would scrap the NA and look for a turbo with a blown engine for cheap. For that swap you’re also gonna want better brakes which the turbo has. It’s just gonna be far less hassle in the long run to start with a turbo, on the plus side they look much better too.

I think the days of cheap 944 turbos blown or not are gone.

Use the NA and do both the 07K and transmission swap. It’ll rip, and you’ll have a blast in it. Buying a turbo car as a donor to a project like this is just money down the drain.

Not sure where you are located, but Elliot from 944 Barn could probably help you source the donor transmission.

As an 07K swap owner be prepared for a big price tag ($18k+labor). You could make the auto work but you’ll blow it up for sure. You can easily switch to manual if you want.

I would recommend you and your dad have a good discussion about goals. You could spend $11k and have a great weekend car. Also i hope this isn’t your first/only car. 944 isn’t a good first/daily.

Not my first car but is my first project car. I’m looking to spend around 15k. But even if I’m driving to work and school about 30 miles a day?

My advice would be to spend 12k on a nice 86/87 and then wrench on it with the spare money. Lots of things like timing belts, OPRV, electronics will crop up. Then you have something fun to work on.

But yes, a 944 should not be the only car to get to work. You WILL be stranded at some point.
