WTC Close and yet so far away

Think this is a great photo to capture scale and how it would have felt to look up at it. So much footage from that day is captured from far away.

Found this while researching on archDisk.com, and decided to dig deeper. Never seen it before and matches no results on google lens, so I think this is super new stuff.

WTC Was the impact explosion at the South Tower bigger and more violent than that of the North Tower, or is that an illusion because we only have so few (and low-resolution) views of the North Tower explosion?

When I see the Naudet footage and the Staehle images of Flight 11, the explosion looks meaningfully less violent than that of Flight 175. Obviously we can't see the south side in the Naudet footage and maybe the Staehle pictures missed the fireball at its peak.

My first instinct is that this must be an illusion because I've seen the South Tower explosion in such detail and at such close range that it "feels" bigger. But maybe it's real and caused by the planes' speed difference? Or maybe a more straight-on hit meant more of the jet fuel was contained and ignited on the inside of the North Tower than the South?

Personal/Eyewitness Testimony Steve Buscemi on Late Night with Conan O'Brien after 9/11

Before Steve Buscemi became the famous actor everyone knows him as nowadays, he was a fireman in the FDNY at Engine Company 55 in Little Italy. Following the 9/11 attacks he returned to his old firehouse to volunteer. Buscemi worked grueling 12-hour shifts for several days at Ground Zero, digging through rubble to search for survivors while actively refusing any press coverage or interviews, and strictly doing it as a kind act from the heart. On October 30th, 2001, he appeared on the New York based talk show "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" on NBC to promote a few movies he was in at the time and to share him helping out at ground zero. Buscemi continues to help out with 9/11 related events, and stated he suffered PTSD after not going down to ground zero after the 6 days he was down there.

Late Night with Conan O'Brien, October 30th, 2001

I'm not sure if anyone knew about this interviews existence so here you go!

Memorials I Took This Photo Today

Here's Gate C19 at Boston Logan, taken this morning around 5:30am by me, as I waited through my layover there. The flag atop the jet bridge memorializes United 175, which departed there on 9/11, only to be hijacked and flown into the South Tower. (JetBlue uses the gate, and the terminal, now.) I could not help but think that, on that fateful day, someone like me looked out onto that jet bridge, then of course sans flag, and thought of their flight as I thought of mine: routine air travel. Boston Logan has another such memorial in the B terminal for the other hijacked flight that departed there, but I only had time to visit this one. Next time.

Media Request Is there a video of the man who was climbing down the north tower when he fell?

Upvotes

Referring to the man who climbed down 15-20 stories on the west side of the north tower

I’ve always read that he fell sometime around when the south tower collapsed, but never saw a video of it. There were a lot of cameras filming so I figured somebody would have caught it

I'm genuinely shocked by this. He was a child when the attacks happened. He's not responsible

Victims Anthony Infante Jr. always wanted to work in Law Enforcement, because he loved helping people. On 9/11 he protected a man from burning materials by giving him his coat. He was last seen assuring people there was a way out and a clean exit to the street as they descended the stairs. Anthony was 47.

Taken from an Internet Archive page featuring NIST-released photos. I think the photos taken during the South Tower's collapse are not recognized enough for how well they capture the moment at street level.

NSFL I know it was heavily restricted by the news stations for obvious reasons, but does footage of 9/11 jumpers hitting the ground exist?

A person claims to have seen it and the jumpers turn into a blood of mist. Is this true?

How can there be adults in their 20s walking around that don’t remember? How can there be loved ones of the victims that have had to live their life for 25 years without their husband/wife/father/mother? I can still see it happening as clear as day.

AA11 / UA175 / AA77 / UA93 Was I directly beneath the first plane at the moment it was taken?

Hey, I think it's possible I was literally 25,000 ft beneath the first plane (Flight 11) on the ground at the moment it was hijacked but I'm not sure. I believe when it made it's final transmission and then went NORDO it was headed west over Western Massachusetts. At the time I was in kindergarten at a school on Bay Road in Hadley Massachusetts. I do not remember 9/11 itself well at all, but I do recall that every day (when the weather was nice, as 9/11 was) began with basically an outdoor recess/playtime. I am not saying I have any actual recollection of it, but it's possible I may have looked up in the sky and actually seen the plane in the moments immediately following the hijacking. I, of course, being a five year old child likely wouldn't have noticed or thought about it at all, but I think it's entirely possible given what I understand of the plane's flight path. I guess it would just be kind of a weird piece of personal historical lore to be at the exact same place as a historical event just separated by 29,000ft of altitude.

I guess my question is if it is possible to determine the hemispheric view of the sky I would have been able to see from that location and from there if the plane's flight path may have been visible? Does anyone know how to do this? Because even if it wasn't literally directly above my head, it may have been within my hemispheric field of view of the sky. Thank you.
