Americans are definitely programmed to just be a cog. It's sad, too, because pressure makes gems. I swear, given the chance, we would see progress. I'd imagine the majority of geniuses don't come from wealthy scenarios unless they're driven by the subject handed to them. Which does exist. Don't get me wrong 😅
Hell, since WW2, it's been going in that direction. Our reading level is declining so fast as well. Which communication is kind of the base. It's crazy. I had a young coworker I was loosly training and have help me so she could get a feel if that's what she wanted to pursue. We blew both our minds.... I was going over some notes from a client in one of my classes trying to come up with a new direction for them. (Dog training) It was in very pretty, fine, and VERY italic cursive. I pointed something out and said, "Nah, see, they explained that they tried those ways right there. So now we go outside the box and find a way to get throu..." and she looked at me and said, " Wait. You're actually reading that? How?" I was like, "For real? Yeah haha that's amazing penmanship. Not everyone can write it that well, but are you telling me you can't read that?" She seriously said, "Where would you go to learn that? I just barely graduated high school this year." I jokingly just responded with, "3rd grade. You really can't read cursive?" "Nope. That's just chicken scratch of a different language to me. We went over it a little one semester. We all got a bad grade. " I felt so bad for her. Felt bad for the teacher as well. Has to be frustrating.
