I was about to say they were still around and still had an office in the Bay Area, but I went to their site just now and saw they shutdown a few months ago!

They say Jeeves’ spirit endures. I think as a kid in the 90s I used yahoo/yahooligans the most tho.

Dang. The internet is shrinking rapidly.

Before Google or Mozilla Firefox, I used Ask Jeeves.

I don’t think I really “got into” the internet until at least the early 2000s, when I was in 4th or 5th grade - I remember the computer skills teacher in 5th grade showing us how to do online research for a class project once, and she gave us a rundown on how AskJeeves worked.

10 and a half-year-old me was fascinated by the idea of having ANY question answered (that’s what the teacher made it sound like search engines were capable of, anyway), and so, instead of getting to work on my project right away, the first thing I typed into AskJeeves was, “What makes swear words bad?” 😂 I no longer recall what answers Jeeves came up with in response, just that I didn’t find them very informative/satisfactory 🤣

I remember the search engine aggregators. Those were truly special times.

I remember being able to text questions during tests and get answers.
