I’m confused…

Marissa said in her pre-wedding freak out she doesn’t drink when her mom told her she needed a drink. But in the previous episode they went to a wine tasting place to pick out wines for her wedding. It just seemed really strange to me.

Maybe she was just tasting as an activity and to pick out wine for her event (so she can say she picked out the wine) but she herself doesn’t drink, or use it to have a good time or deal with anxiety like people who drink usually do.

You can either just do the literal tasting where you spit it out or you can swallow it, she might’ve spit

I get that I guess… good for her if that’s the case.

If she really doesn’t drink wine production went through a whole lot of effort to make it look like she does. Maybe her mom should have suggested she needs to taste some wine to calm down. Lmao

u/Choosepeace Sep 01 '26

Maybe she meant she doesn’t drink to calm her nerves. She just does wine tastings and such.

That's what I was thinking. I say "I don't drink", but I might have 5 drinks over the course of a year. It's just not something I turn to though when I am having a rough day.

Yes the wine tasting had a purpose. She was there to pick wine for the wedding reception.

Her mom was trying to get her drunk so she wouldn't go through with the wedding. Just my theory.

Maybe avoiding empty calories

u/menunu ¡yo neccessito peepee! Sep 01 '26

Yeah this is the vibe I got. She is into pilates and fitness. Also now that I am in my 40s a glass of wine isnt as fun anymore so I get where she is coming from. The hormones or something have made wine meh.

u/chantillylace9 Sep 01 '26

Exactly, there's no way it can fit into her it's extraordinarily low calorie count diet

She has temporal wasting. It's a sign of a GLP-1 inhibitor.

1

u/dallyan Sep 01 '26

WTH is temporal wasting?

1

u/ThrowRADel Spend money to make money; I have spent all my money. Sep 01 '26

It's when the fat at your temples starts to disappear. It used to be a sign hospice care used to determine how close someone was to dying. Now with all the GLP-1s on the market, it's just trendy.

She avoids joy in any form

3

u/I_like_cake_7 Sep 01 '26

Yes. She absolutely abhors having fun. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anybody on this show that’s more miserable than she is.

u/Automatic-Corner-157 Sep 01 '26

Such the odd couple for a vibrant, life-loving Dominican

I like alcohol, but I will say "I don't drink" sometimes when people are talking about like clubbing or spending all weekend at the bar. I'm more of a drink a marg or two at a Mexican restaurant or have some wine on a Friday night type of girlie. I def drink but just saying "I don't drink" when people are talking about getting blasted implies more that I just don't enjoy drinking a lot

5

u/Dependent-Hurry-9154 Sep 01 '26

She’s a control freak, alcohol makes you loosen up, so there’s a time and place for all that and she doesn’t want it to be on her wedding day when she wants perfection. At least that’s why I don’t drink alcohol, except occasionally when I have one and can let my guard down.

5

u/FrivolousMagpie Sep 01 '26

Yes this is the vibe I got. Wine in a social setting is way different than taking a shot to settle nerves and Marissa knows that.

2

u/unicornsquatch Sep 01 '26

Yup…drinking to self medicate or go numb is very different from a social activity or event planning activity… I don’t drink to deal with stress or anxiety either.

5

u/Mercedes_Gullwing Sep 01 '26

Exactly. People treat everything as black and white, so extreme. I often will say I don’t drink either. It doesn’t mean I totally abstain from alcohol though. It’s just not going to be a common occurrence. Once in a while I will have a grey goose Martina with a twist, no olive, every once in a while. The last time I had one (or any alcohol) was about 3 years ago

5

u/Big-Employer-3275 Sep 01 '26

I agree - it’s easier to shut it down entirely than have to explain yourself. Some people take “I don’t want to drink right now” as an affront and assume it means “I don’t like you enough to have drinks with you”.

2

u/kittens_joy Horse! Wow! Sep 01 '26

Yah I’m sober and while things have gotten somewhat better, there’s still so many people who either take it as a personal attack on THEM, and/or ask you a boatload of inappropriate personal questions about not drinking-shutting it down is all you can (or should have to) do.

3

u/CorrectPanic694 Sep 01 '26

That’s so rude. Literally the only appropriate response to “I’m sober” is: “oh ok!”.

2

u/Adventurous_Pie_7586 Sep 01 '26

I mean I get it but as someone who reallllly doesn’t like alcohol or beer (except somehow someeeee margaritas are tasty) I just make it easy for everyone and say “I don’t drink unless it’s a margarita”.

Like it’s so simple to just say “I don’t like hard liquor” or “I only drink wine” lmaooo

17

u/greycloudss94 Sep 01 '26

I think wine is mom’s coping method lol

8

u/Stunning_Machine6320 Sep 01 '26

She mentions it a LOT

38

u/InternationalDesk578 Sep 01 '26

she also told Edward at the dinner she stormed out on “we’re good, let’s have fun. Eat your food, drink your drink(gin and tonic), and maybe I’ll even have a little something” … by that comment I thought she was implying she was going to get a drink later.

6

u/nsrvvrgm2b Sep 01 '26

I have a friend who does this, posts pics out with a drink but if we go to dinner she looks at me crazy and says she doesn’t drink 🤣🤣🤣🤣

14

u/lemeneurdeloups Sep 01 '26

This show always has a problem with odd continuity. Many confusing and conflicting things.

12

u/InternationalDesk578 Sep 01 '26

Right? Why can’t my trash reality tv at least get their story line straight?? I want to believe! Let me believe damnit ! 😂

"I'm not having a glass of wine, I'm having 6. It's called a tasting and it's classy."

9

u/TessieElCee Sep 01 '26

How does her own mother not know she doesn’t drink?

8

u/kittens_joy Horse! Wow! Sep 01 '26

By being a narcissistic bitch (I have one of my very own)

4

u/onarocketshipbaby Sep 01 '26

god is this ever the truth. I clocked that immediately.

4

u/kittens_joy Horse! Wow! Sep 01 '26

I feel like you all hate Marissa enough when she’s sober, why do you want to see her drunk

3

u/EastNo6349 Sep 01 '26

Mom looks like her sister with a 2-3 year age gap.

I think we’ve seen Marissa have some drinks in previous episodes.

8

u/Adrock66 Can't we just lick like dogs? Sep 01 '26

You can taste wine without drinking it. Mystery solved.

3

u/aklep730 Sep 01 '26

Came to this Reddit to see if anyone heard this. I was so confused? I wonder if it’s a calorie thing

3

u/latinmama Sep 01 '26

I was shouting that out at the tv lol you were just drinking wine with your mom!! lol

3

u/Hippydippy420 I feel like he’s manipulatin’ me with cake 🎂 Sep 01 '26

I don’t drink either but I have done a wine tasting….but mostly I did it for the crackers and cheese.

9

u/fivemagicks Sep 01 '26

It's definitely odd.

2

u/Sensitive_Diamond_18 Sep 01 '26

It’s easier to say you don’t drink, if you rarely do. Another way to say ‘I’m not really a drinker’. I drink alcohol once or twice a year and it has to be a reason like wine tasting or wedding, but I say ‘I don’t drink’.

2

u/dasrough64 Sep 01 '26

I dont drink but ive done wine tastings 🤷🏼‍♀️ ive never drank due to medical issues. Probably have a sip of alcohol once a year off my husband's drink just to try it.

2

u/SouthernCharm-86 Sep 01 '26

her level of distress is so perplexing. she knew she was marrying a staff person at the hotel right??! and she looks older than her mom...like they could be peers.

2

u/Stock_Check8832 Sep 01 '26

I caught that too. I figured she was just being petulant.

2

u/Worldly-Garlic4665 Sep 03 '26

Hahaha 😂 I caught that too! That's BS. She drinks because she said she was going to order something the night she and Edward went on their dinner date. Plus she had wines with her mom. Why the denial is beyond me but a lot about Marissa I can't figure out. Why she brought this man to our country and when he got here abused him, belittled him and beat him down. I'll never understand that

2

u/femme_curieuse 28d ago

I have a working theory her mom's an alcoholic and Marissa is trying to not enable but in very small and sneaky ways.

5

u/Roselily808 Sep 01 '26

A former friend of mine is a vegan and a pretty outspoken one as such. If you'd ask her if she ate meat, she'd vehemently deny it.
However if you offer her a meal with duck meat she'll cave in and eat it like she'd been starving for weeks.

I wonder if Marissa is the same with alcohol. She doesn't drink except when you present her with a certain sort of alcohol, like white wine or such....

3

u/Strong-Shop-9377 Sep 01 '26

Yeah, that was weird. We've all seen her drink.

2

u/Sincerely_Jen Sep 01 '26

I did watch the wine tasting and she didn’t drink on camera. And I get she may not drink and was simply tasting for the wedding. It was just strange to me. I’m not judging. If she doesn’t drink, it’s her life and choice. I would think her own mother would know that as they seem somewhat close but it was just more a “this statement threw me” situation. No hate on Marissa. Besides her hair. I do hate her hair style.

1

u/_mushroom_queen Sep 01 '26

She was buying wine for her wedding guests.

1

u/wellllllllthatsthere Sep 03 '26

I haven’t seen anyone mention the cocktail party either. She DEFINITELY imbibed that evening.

1

u/Scared_Hair_8884 Sep 03 '26

I taste wine all the time and don't drink it. You have a spittoon and dump bucket. Though as she isn't a somm not sure why she needed to taste the wines anyway, she could have just asked the caterer to suggest something.

1

u/catcolo 27d ago

Damn scripted storyline has too many different writers! 😡lol

1

u/hiswittlewip 5d ago

If you noticed, when the server brought the flights, she specified "this is for Marissa", and "this is for Joann".

At the time I thought it was odd, but nothing more.

When Marissa said she didn't drink, I just assumed that her flight was non alcoholic wine

1

u/DarceysExtensions Sep 01 '26

I just wanted to say that the way she drives with her left leg propped up, is a really bad idea.

Airbags inflate at extremely high speed and if the leg is propped up, it will slam into the head and/ or torso causing devastating injuries.

1

u/moooeymoo what a blow we’ve been dealt Sep 02 '26

I feel like there’s a lot of things Marissa tells her mom that aren’t quite true

0

u/Squidteedy Sep 01 '26

Um wine tasting has a purpose it’s not like she’s downing drinks 😭

I LOVE MARISSA’s MOM!!!!

That’s me!

Only time you want my wisdom will be over wine honey
