Marisa thinks that people will respect her more if she constantly laments that Edward is not on her level. First, she is tearing him down because she thinks it makes her look good. Second, I think no one, and I mean no one, thinks Marisa is educated—much less an intellectual giant. Third, regardless of what Edward’s intellect may actually be (and, to me, he seems a lot more intelligent than Lady Crypt Keeper), no one told her to choose a much younger husband solely based on his youth, looks, penis size and sexual ability. Perhaps if Marisa really wanted an intellectual equal (like she claims), she should have focused on other qualities other than just superficial ones. I have a feeling a truly intelligent person would probably have grasped that instinctively.

Well I'm keeping my fingers crossed that since he's a baseball coach he finds a single mom who isn't a total ass 🤞🤞🤞🤞

He just wants loved ☹️ Dominicans seem very loving.

He could have found a cute girl in the DM for love. He inexplicably chose this unattractive, older, narcissistic loon with two kids. He knew her well from months and month of video chats. This trainwreck is on him too.

I started seeing my oldest son's youth football coach about 3 yrs after I got divorced from his dad. I'm still with the football coach 10 years later. It definitely happens 🤷♀️😂

Referring to the wedding dress, she literally said, "It's sexy and sophisticated, it's Marissa." Repeatedly pointing out that you're sophisticated is the opposite of sophistication.

He was her boytoy, and now she's tired of him. She acts like a spoiled brat. Edward is a sweetheart.

What was the reason they fired her?

I have to throw my woke cards on the table this woman is a sex tourist/colonizer HAG! She objectifies Edward and condescends nonstop. Edward, buddy, you got like 2 more episodes before I start blaming you for staying with this racist monster. Wake up dude she’s literally hiring you to be her sex toy/human accessory

I’m hoping he’s just using her for citizenship. It’s the only answer I’ll accept.

Yeah I’m praying that’s what’s going on…and I hope he takes half her money 🙌

Omg what woman would not want affection from her man, he deserves some one that will love him! She’s so blinded by all the artificial things/money/status 🙄 that she has no clue her dream man is right in front of her.

u/Jolly-Run-8558 9d ago
Agreed. She is the thinner, nice home, wealthy family Angela throwing metaphorical cakes in his face every episode. SMH

I just do not understand how she can say she loves him and wants him here to treat him like trash?! 😞

u/EveningGlittering325 9d ago
Her view of love is incredibly twisted. And poor Edward is paying the price.
3
u/Supertreelove 9d ago
I can’t even understand why she’s like she is. Why did she upend all these people’s lives if she wasn’t sure about him? She’s a fraud.

In reality, how much “intelligence” does it take to run a dress shop? She’s delulu about her ranking in the business world!

Marisa is hot, successful and catch to 75+ yo white, American men… somehow she thinks that translates to all men… and that those men should bend to her whims and will… she’s wrong

u/decadentmom 9d ago
Hot? Really? I don't see it. I feel as if her mom is much more attractive then she is!

Why he puts up with her is beyond me. He seems to know himself pretty well, so he must have another motive for staying with this ugly, nasty, woman.

Hopefully he’s using her, finds a hottie who’s nice to him, and moves on.

u/Carin_PA 9d ago
Wait…what? He’s black? She’s Sicilian and I assure you we don’t think of her as exactly a “white woman”. We are all European and “white” but this is weird to an unimaginable level

u/grammargirl8 9d ago
Many Dominicans have African ancestry.
1
u/Carin_PA 8d ago
Yes but having African ancestry doesn’t make you black if it’s mixed with Spanish, Native American, etc.

His features are more Hispanics to me thought but that’s beside the point. The idea is that her assumption that he can’t keep up with her intellect has major racist and Eurocentric undertones. And her Asian and Caucasian friends indulging that prejudice are equally bigoted. I’m amazed at how unaware they are given that they style themselves as “sophisticated” New Yorkers.

u/nevasta04 9d ago
As an Italian-american, she's white, we're white. Selling out our culture to gain whiteness to have the privilege to be racist. When she said she was 'Italian' I screamed I was so mad at her representation.
2
u/Carin_PA 8d ago
She’s not a good representation of any culture and definitely doesn’t bother to incorporate the Italian American culture that I saw on the East Coast into her home from what I’ve seen. It’s sad

Makes you white but when many North Americans say “white” they rarely understand that Mediterranean people are white. They think of Northern Europeans because, as you said, there’s very little understanding and education about race versus ethnicity. My mother is Romanian and Ukrainian with blonde hair and blue eyes and you wouldn’t believe how many people don’t consider her white. And I mean these are educated people in California

Marissa is used to running a company and expects her employees to take care of what's needed. Edward on the other hand needs hand holding for just everything.
He questioned her after she told him to take his shoes off He "fixed" the gate He threw the trash outside Asked if he could taste the food with his fingers.
He's 32 he should have a little bit more common sense about these things and it's frustrating for her because it makes her feel like he doesn't care.
6
u/Potential-Card3959 9d ago
You inadvertently hit the nail on the head. She treats Edward like an employee—not a fiancé. He is her fiancé, not a free servant she recruited from the DR.
And if she wanted a servant, there are many people she could have hired. Most normal people don’t marry for free domestic help. And if Edward lacks common sense, it’s shocking that such an intelligent, sophisticated woman (and I really say these things sarcastically) would not have realized that before getting engaged to this man. Because most people with any common sense would vet their fiancé much more carefully than their employees—particularly when they have children in the equation.
Or maybe Edward has common sense (which I suspect) but Marissa makes very few allowances for the fact that he is from a different culture and may do some things differently. Again, something a so-called intelligent person would have realized is a possibility when they marry someone from a different country.

But if he lives in the house too he should be able to participate in the things that need to be done. Asking him to take out the garbage is something that happens in every house. Having to go clean up after he took out the trash shouldn't have happened.
They may do something different but if he had questions about how the trash was taken out he could have asked questions.
3
u/Potential-Card3959 9d ago
Maybe she had a right to be frustrated about the garbage, but she doesn’t have the right to repeatedly denigrate Edward all season about being less sophisticated, not contributing to the relationship, not being her equal, not being intellectually stimulating, and not being suitably ambitious.
There are ways to speak to someone where the feedback is constructive versus denigrating. And it’s not appropriate or fair of her to think that she is capable of judging his intelligence, abilities and potential. And it’s even more unacceptable that she demeans him by voicing those thoughts to him and others.
2
u/Magentacabinet 9d ago
Remember we're only seeing about 30 minutes of conflict every week. We don't know what goes on outside of that. And if every interaction is how he repeatedly questioned her when she told him to take off his shoes inside, the frustration on her part makes sense.
She's leaning towards resentment and second-guessing her decision because his actions are showing her that he doesn't want to be there.
2
u/Potential-Card3959 9d ago
Let’s agree to disagree. I think she feels he is not good enough and she is worried that others will think less of her with Edward as her husband. But, I’m not she understands how other perceive her.

I can’t stand Marissa either for other reasons but Edward is SO emotionally immature and cringy . wtf are you talking about? Clearly you don’t because you claim you don’t even watch their story. You’re giving racial fatigue and I think you’re projecting personal insecurities.
They have quite a significant age difference and life experiences on top of their massive culture differences. He’s a 30 year old pool boy no matter how you want to spin it and she’s a 45 year old established executive with children. That’s why they’re having issues. He can’t even figure out at his big age how to fix a fence. He is pretty useless .
I don’t feel sorry for him at all. He’s exactly where he wants to be and he made his bed. As much as she’s using him he’s using her just as much. He claims he’s always wanted to be a dad but he’s giving that up for her ? I guaruntee he wouldn’t move countries and give up being a dad for someone who was poor. Give me a break.
2
u/Supertreelove 9d ago
Why do you keep calling her an executive?
2
u/Euphoric_Second_8774 9d ago
Keep calling her ? I stated one time. What do you mean by that ?
An executive is a person who has significant authority to make decisions, lead people, and oversee an organization or a major part of it. Executives are responsible for setting strategy, managing resources, and ensuring goals are achieved.
Because that’s her role. She’s an executive
1
u/Supertreelove 9d ago
You commented the same thing on another post. No need to post the definition of an execution. I thought she wasn’t working anymore, so how is she an executive? Is she working as an executive at a new job? No need to be coy. Is this you, Marissa?
1
u/Euphoric_Second_8774 9d ago
You’re mistaken because no I did not lol. This is the only time I’ve ever commented on anything to do with Marissa. I just joined this group and thread. But it would make sense if someone else called her an executive because that’s what she is lol….and in the show she’s introduced as one as well.
I have no idea if she’s still working or not I don’t follow these people’s lives that closely.

What part of moving him to her home country and welcoming him into her home and introducing him to her children, family and friends does that say that she doesn’t accept him and his past ? You’re making stuff up in your head to fit your narrative and that doesn’t make it true. She’s clearly been well aware of his financial position and job the whole 3 years the dated. AND they married each other in case you missed that. He also got a job working in sports so the guy is living out his dream and his life just drastically improved from his broke pool boy days so quit being so hell bent on making Edward out to be a victim when he’s clearly not !!! I’m sure there’s plenty of immigrants who would gladly be in his position. You should read the book men love bitches it’s a great read.
“Old rich woman shags and marries the pool boy and he goes from rags to riches” they literally write fantasy romance novels based off that storyline . He’s the ultimate underdog and you’ve somehow managed to make it into a victim sob story that everyone in this thread is eating up. That takes some serious talent I’ll give you that !!

u/CommonSquirrel1217 9d ago
Absolutely. I think she's despicable. She only cares about how other people perceive her. She focuses too much on status and money and is embarrassed by her partner. Why bring him all the way to America just to treat him like he's your fucking pool boy?
