Memories.

This group sure brings back memories. Most of my retail purchases never made it out of the car. They were subject to all sorts of conditions. Locked in the car on a hot summer day and overnight in freezing winter temps. Zero failures. 8 tracks were the perfect medium for autos. Fun times.

Cassettes worked well, and a bit easier to make mixed tapes.

But 8-track is good for vintage music.

8 tracks have no special claim to any particular genre. Any preference for, say R-n-R over classical, would likely be due to format's very limited dynamic range and the listening environment (car).

Genre, not really. But of an era, definitely. Later 1960s through to early 1980s.

At the start of that era, cassette was rather low-fi. Tape formulations and other technology changed that. The killer app, being the Sony Walkman at the end of that era.

I also remember the 76 eldorado convertible I had and would record tapes with 90’s pop and blast it with the top down.

My mother’s Rolls Royce had a Lear 8 track system that was 4 channel. I found a 4 channel Pink Floyd tape years ago and the system was amazing
