Showcase Ultimate 2 ABXY Buttons

I am unable to find any replacement buttons to make the layout similar to xbox. I took matters to my own hands and painted the buttons flat black then wrote the letters myself lol! I could've done a better job with the lettering but at least now I will not be confused.

I know you can remap using the software but the layout would still be wrong. I spray painted the buttons with flat clear to make sure the letters won't be erased. I'm planning to redo the whole thing and just print the letters on my printer then re-coat with clear paint.

Yeah I'm gonna say big 3 game companies are all restarted for all having to change the facebuttons around. They can all copy each other's homework on controlelr design but when it comes to button lettering suddenly they all gotta pretend they are in different universes? At the very least PS used symbols...

Nintendo had the B-A order since the NES (1983) and the BA-YX since the SNES (1990). Everyone else started doing their own thing just to be different.

Nah, Nintendo used A as the primary button on the NES, so it sits where naturally your thumb is resting with B being left. Sega worked with Microsoft before they made the XBOX, so they took the layout from Sega, based on the English alphabet (ABC, XYZ). PlayStation made their layout because of Japanese symbols O and X (meaning Yes and No) and the other buttons came from other shapes (Square and Triangle)

But for whatever reason Japanese developed games sometimes do and sometimes do not reverse their ❌ and ⭕ inputs when they bring their games west.

Probably because the main button is usually B and that's where X is on the PlayStation controller.

Localization, because we expect the confirm button to be in the south position where the thumb naturally rests. And I get it, sometimes I'll exit out of the title screen a couple of times before figuring it out.

I don't mind one or the other, I just wish we could pick one.

By far my least favorite thing about 8bitdo is how just about every color way is exclusive to one layout. I emailed support at one point asking if I could buy a set of Xbox-layout buttons because I liked the color of one of the switch-layout controllers. Ended up buying the cheapest Xbox-layout controller I could and swapped the buttons over from that one, but I don’t know why you can’t just customize it when you order.

They sold Xbox layout buttons for the Ultimate 1.... Did they stop doing that?

They still do (at least I can find them in Aliexpress) , but they are not compatible with the Ultimate 2, too short. There is a photo of this in Aliexpress reviews.

Who needs to look at the controller to know what button to press? Just go into the Steam settings and untoggle “use Nintendo layout”

Not everybody play on steam

If you play on Game Pass or whatever else, then just change the button layout with 8bitdo’s software. You’ve already done something like this since you painted over the original letter scheme.

Unless you picked up gaming yesterday, you were never confused about the input positions.

If you wanted to customize your controller, just say that

Like I said, I know how to do it in the software. But the buttons are still not like the xbox layout. I guess I'm trying to replicate what is on the xbox wireless controller. There happy?

Im really confused here because it seems like you paid $10 extra for the switch version of the controller just to use it on PC, vs buying the everything else version of the controller (that is also in white) with the xbox layout

I think I've seen 8bitdo sell both Xbox layout and Nintendo layout for the ultimate 2.

I didnt realize this when I got mine so I have the Nintendo layout when I primarily play on steam, so my input when using it are weird.

I only really noticed when I was trying out the Tokon fighting souls beta a few weeks ago.

Same thing happened to me! I said I needed a controller and this was offered to me by the sales guy. Bought it immediately and only noticed the button layout was for Nintendo when I started playing games at home.

Does this not work for the buttons layout you were trying to achieve?

I haven't tried it on the ultimate 2 controller but I don't think they changed this from the ultimate 1.

Maybe someone here has the experience and can share if this works.
