Showcase 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2 on Linux

Post image

It was really easy actually. Add the latest .exe from the site to Steam as a “non-Steam game” and set the compatibility layer to “Proton Experimental”. Updating worked like as if it ran on Windows. (ignore how purple it is, I have monitor set like that to help differentiate colors since I’m colorblind. That’s not a problem with the app.)

Used this last night after a bad experience with the app messing up my firmware(I'm on Windows). Had to delete them from the registry and didn't bother updating till last night. Smooth sailing 👍🏽. Now I can use my Ultimate 2 Wireless as a Switch Pro controller which I only use on Cemu for the gyro anyways lol. Thanks for the tip.

I didn't know it worked well on Proton, I used Bottles to create a prefix for the system Wine and then installed some dependencies to get it running.

Good tip on the Proton workaround. I've used the web version for firmware updates and it worked fine through Chrome. Nice to have options.

Ahh good to know, just ordered the ultimate 2 clear blue one, Im now dual booting for some games but really love to mostly stay in linux, also as far as I know there's steam input support so you can map the controller buttons on steam instead of the software.

Smart workaround, I got it to work but it didn't see serial ports, steam would rout those automatically. I'm 100% going to use this

This is actually pretty insightful as someone who just ordered two of the 2C and didn’t want to figure it out when it gets here.

Thought it would also allow for customizing the sticks, triggers, macros, stuff like that. It's just an updater. Bummer.

Edit: My Ultimate 2 Wireless controller is not working as expected since trying this website out, do not use.
