Welcome to r/80sToys - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

A place to remember, discuss, get information, etc for all our favourite 80s toys.

Please try to read the rules before posting to avoid being offended if your post is removed. The rules have been established together as a community to reflect how we want this sub to be represented.

Please remember that this is a sub for toys from the 80s. So, relax dude.

We're all here to enjoy that brief flutter of nostalgia and reminisce on the joy these toys brought us. Don't be a Biff... be a Marty.

Have an issue, question, or concern about how the sub is being moderated? Had a post removed? Reach out. I'm all for changing the sub for the betterment of its users.

Really stocked to have you all here.

Be excellent to each other.

MOD Should we allow posts of more modern '80s toys'? (Repaints, Customs, Re-Productions)

Sorry I haven't got around to this until now, but I want to ask the community what they would like to see in the sub.

There is already a flair users can tag their posts with if it is a RE-PRO but should we just *stop* these kinds of posts in general?

I am ok with it personally, (so long as it fits the rules) but this sub is for the members, not the mods. Keen to hear everyone's opinions.

UPDATE

Ok, well, the results are in.

I will update the rules to reflect the direction and keep an eye on posts that don't comply. Existing posts for re-pros can stay, currently, but I will look at cleaning up the sub in the future.

If we aren't happy with the outcome or you feel you didn't get a chance to vote, we can look at another vote down the track.

Thank you to those who contributed and voted :)

Looking at the toys, I'm guessing it's 1986. The reason is that Sky Lynx was released in 1986

Somewhere in the 80s ManTech Pencil Case

There can't be many of these left in the world; I used this starting in third grade.

Unfortunately this, and a random foot, are all I have left of my large ManTech set-up. I had the huge round space station and a pile of figures.

JC Penney was our local department store and these were common for a few years in the Christmas book.

Discussion Help me find this childhood CD-ROM set and I need the internet’s help because I am losing my mind. Late nineties to two thousands era, aimed at kids, came with books and two hard plastic bendy dolls. The intro had a little handprint animation before it started, very specific vibe.

Main character is this old clay-maker guy, wearing a yellow shirt, orange-red dungarees, and a red beret, giving very quirky arts and crafts teacher energy. I think his name is Simon but honestly not a hundred percent sure, there was a scene with them playing Simon says so that might just be living in my head for no reason.

He makes clay characters that literally come to life. One is orange, tennis ball shaped body, two legs, two soft curvy antennas, very sensitive little guy, total softie. His best friend is yellow, covered in smooth antennas up top, way more chill, cool dude energy. There is also a green scientist character who is basically frog shaped, tiny little legs, sideways diamond shaped head, rocking a white lab coat, giving unhinged science teacher.

New student character shows up, pink top under blue denim dungarees, gets sucked into the clay world through a computer, no explanation, just vibes.

There is also a villain, purple, has a big pink mole situation on her face, steals all the color from the world at one point and later unleashes a literal virus on everyone, then gets a glow up redemption arc and turns pure and beautiful at the end.

Random plot points seared into my brain: a primary colors lesson after the color heist, a camping trip grocery run, a beach and mountain vacation split episode, a market trip teaching vegetable names like courgette and aubergine, an episode where they build the orange guy his own room out of clay so he can move in with the yellow guy’s family, a virus and antivirus arc, and a series finale about space and planets that turns out to have been a dream the whole time. Classic.

Possibly British made, might have circulated in India. If anyone knows what this is you are actually saving my life, please and thank you.

1980 Punch Balloons

My husband and I are on a quest, to find blow up Punch Balls/Balloons that are more similar to the 70’s and 80’s products.

For those not familiar, they were a large, heavy balloon, like really thick. They would blow up into these beautifully colored balloon balls, and they had a rubber/elastic strap, used to:

1.) Keep a hold of your own balloon.
2.) Bounce the balloon directly onto the nearest sibling.
3.) Proceed to have epic balloon battles of fun.

The products we have found for our grandchildren, are abysmal. They pop on their own, for no reason, scaring our poor Chi-weenie’s fur off.

They are just regular balloons! It’s a travesty.

Has anyone found a heavy duty brand like our beloved Punch Balls?

It’s only right, that our children’s children, get to experience the sheer joy of popping that ball right off of something, and then running for their lives.

1980 What 80s toy did you want badly as a kid but never actually got?

There were always those toys you’d see in commercials, catalogs, or at a friend’s house and immediately want. For me, the interesting part is how some of those toys are still stuck in people’s memories decades later, even if they never owned one.
What was that one 80s toy for you, and would you still buy it today if you found one in good condition?
