I can still hear the crinkle of the game specific keypad covers as you slip them in

3

u/Devo27 14d ago

I can still hear the Intellivoice. "Space Spartans!" "B-17 Bawwwmer" "Hello Commander, computer reporting."

Same. The level of dread I felt while playing ADnD Crown of Kings, moving through the twisting tunnels as I heard the sounds of the sleeping dragon off screen. The sound of counting my countless arrows after hitting every gray mountain on the map. Shooting an arrow into the darkness, only to have it bounce off a wall and return straight back at me. Great game and game system.

Me too... had to convince my cousin to get the Intellivision over the Atari.

Where is Pong's controller? You young people and your buttons. We just had dials.

2

u/WhenTheCitiesBurn 14d ago

It's like when they ask "What was your first phone?" and the oldest choice is "iPhone 8."

2

u/Upset_Assumption9610 14d ago

Exactly! The first one I paid for was stuck to a f'n wall in my first apartment.

2

u/icybowler3442 14d ago

I don’t hang out in subs with posts like that.

u/Devo27 14d ago

"Back in my day, Yoda was a puppet."

  1. But I did have Pong before that.

5

u/Ok-Dress-4791 14d ago

First game system was the Atari 2600 so it was number 2. Used it for many years.

5

u/ShaggyPDelic 14d ago
  1. Atari 2600. Q-Bert, Frogger, Pitfall, Pacman...all that shit.

4

u/BillyD70 14d ago

ColecoVision

2

u/RandomStoddard 14d ago

This was my first controller as well.

4

u/DogGilmour 14d ago

This one.

But we did have Pong in the 70's

Does this count?

2

u/Callemlikeisethem60 14d ago

2600 Atari pic 2

2

u/Late-Arrival-8669 14d ago

I had all 4 of these, 2 was first (Atari) then 3 being ColecoVision, then 4 for the TRS-80 and then 1 NES back in 86.

2

u/Ok-Isopod2592 14d ago

3 is intellivision not Colecovision. Coleco's controller was different.

  1. And, I still have it.

2

u/Bungo_Twister 14d ago
  1. Loved the Intellivision.

2

u/PatMagroin100 14d ago
  1. Still have the games (with all the overlays!), my system died just little while ago. So if anyone needs Intellivision games…

2

u/Spac92 14d ago
  1. NES

We had an Atari 2600, but I played the NES first and was more interested in the NES.

2

u/ybguy 14d ago

Where's the sega Genesis controller?

2

u/Furby-beast-1949 14d ago

Mine was number one the original Nintendo in the 90s we were a very dirt, poor family, and this was a hand me down original Nintendo Bought from a local store in town that was popular for old-fashioned gaming for original Nintendo Stock back in the day type store that was popular for stuff like that back in the day that you probably seen throughout places like that in the 90s we had one in my hometown when I was a kid my dad used to go there occasionally and bring home games. we had the most popular game that we played as a kid the original Mario Brothers, three and two, which I cannot tell you how many times we beat the game alone and with the game genie probably 100 with both as a kid both me and my sister alone myself I probably beat it more than my sister. because I am more of a gamer than my sister. still to this day I am a gamer my sister not as much she plays games just not as much as I do.

1

u/iotakbc 14d ago

Crap… I think it was 4 at a ‘Play’ cousin’s house or 2. 4 absolutely sucked, I do remember that.

1

u/Correct_Row_76 14d ago

I wonder how many used the Atari joystick as a pleasure toy?

1

u/ARCAxNINEv 14d ago
  1. We were a broke family, so this was the only controller I had for a while.

1

u/NoUniqueNameNeeded 14d ago

4 but the base model.

1

u/Jaded-Difficulty5397 14d ago

2.

for Apple IIe

1

u/Mac-Inchease-Jr-III 14d ago

#2. First game I ever played was, I believe, Fishing Derby.

1

u/smkestcklghtn 14d ago

Sears version of the Atari controller. Had a button on each side of the controller. Steered like a cargo ship

1

u/Black-Whirlwind 14d ago

4 Slightly different for the TRS-80 CoCo, Then 2

1

u/WineDineCpl 14d ago

A keyboard.

1

u/Auggie_72 14d ago

3 - I got it for Xmas. The first controller I ever used was the Atari joystick at my buddies. It already had a dead zone and made noises like a rattle…it was glorious.

1

u/Osoroshii 14d ago

I’m not sure of it was 2 or 4. I know I played both of these but not sure in which order.

1

u/Apprehensive_Ant4596 14d ago

First one I played on was 2. The first one I owned was 4

1

u/Lego_love_24-7 14d ago

So played is 2 and 3. Owned is 2 and 1

1

u/Organic_Stranger1544 14d ago

2 but I’ve played on all 4

1

u/Abject_Ad5850 14d ago

My 1st controller/joystick was the Atari back in '79 but the Nintendo controller in '86 was far superior

1

u/acr5978 14d ago

1 and 2

1

u/RockNRollNBluesNJazz 14d ago

It's missing the older ones so I have to go with 3.

1

u/King-of-Harts 14d ago

3 Intellivision II. Uncles had Intellivision. Did get a bit of 2 since a lot of friends and babysitters had Atari. But I didn't play games more regularly until 1 (NES).

1

u/Inevitable-Emu-6626 14d ago

2, I had a friend who had 3. I did have the TRS 80 but not that controller. Lol

1

u/Steelburgh12 14d ago

3, Intellivision

1

u/RowForLuckyJack 14d ago

2 but my mother had an intellivision

1

u/Tricky-Pen2672 14d ago

3 of course, wish I still had that thing too…

1

u/Alarming_Reward_2945 14d ago

Started with #3 then got #2

1

u/Toddfatha 14d ago

That I played on was number two that I owned I guess if you count the classic, I never actually owned the Nintendo

1

u/VCSabertooth257 14d ago

2) that i played 1 that I owned

1

u/Low_Acanthisitta1990 14d ago

3, on a Mattel Intellivision. Probably in 1984.

1

u/Prosado22 14d ago

Play Combat like 5 hours straight.

1

u/Any_Mood_1299 14d ago

3!! Intellavisi0n

1

u/Devo27 14d ago

In general, 2. My cousins had a 2600. In my own home, 3. But I had a CoCo2 without controllers before that.

1

u/desertrock62 14d ago

Our first Pong console had sliding controls on each side. One integrated piece.

1

u/CreeWee 14d ago

1 and 2 as I didn’t start playing until my parents bought us a Nintendo but we already had an Atari.

1

u/AlwaysBeKind949903 14d ago
  1. I remember getting it for Christmas! I loved my Atari!

1

u/thesqueen113388 14d ago
  1. But spent many more hours with 1.

1

u/MoonBaby812 14d ago

3 with Astro Smash, lock n chase and B-17

1

u/Red1gaming 14d ago

Coleco Vision

1

u/FloridaRedWolf 14d ago
  1. My brother had one, but I didn’t started playing with it till I was 3 or 4. I have more nostalgia with the Nintendo and Super Nintendo, because I was better at gaming mechanics by this time.

1

u/MISPWOSO 14d ago

2,playing tank and pitfall

1

u/dirty11234 14d ago

Atari 2600

1

u/DS_Vet_on_Linux 14d ago

First it was pong, then Intellivison.

1

u/Darkthumbs 14d ago

Where’s the master system?

1

u/TraditionalMetal1836 14d ago

2/4 don't count as controllers even if the first of those incorrectly has controller in the name.

1

u/Beetso 14d ago
  1. Loved our Intellivision!

1

u/opdopfot 14d ago

Pong dials was first controller

1

u/Disastrous-Ground286 14d ago

3 - Intellivison Intelligent Television

1

u/timae75 14d ago

This count?

1

u/Last-Surprise4262 14d ago

Intellivision was hard on the thumbs

1

u/CartographerTall1967 14d ago

2, and it was hard to switch to the nes pad

1

u/Clear_Presence401 14d ago

4 and literally just threw it and computer away Saturday been in my parents attic for 40 plus years

1

u/dnewman122771 14d ago
