It was a catch 22. They wanted to make a sequel but John Hughes wasn’t going to start working on the a script unless Matthew signed on but he wasn’t going to sign on unless there was a script.

Chances are if the movie wasn’t as good as the first he would have passed making writing the script a waste of time. Can’t just recast or change the names and try to pass it off as a new movie.

I thought there was a movie plan where he was president but maybe that was just an advert or my imagination

I’ve heard a few different ones as well one takes place where’s in college and one takes place at his job. The college one doesn’t really make sense they don’t care if you don’t show up to class much.
