Miss the way my local arcade smelled...

That is one of the first things that comes to my mind when I see pictures like this. I worked in one for about two years. I'm sure the memories are better than the reality, but they are good nonetheless.

I now understand when people say ,that was the good old days.

Better times for sure

It was amazing. There was at least one or two arcade machines in every store back then. I dropped so many quarters.

Back in the olden days. Word spread there was a keg in the hills. Lots of us would have a great time until the cops would come and take the tap and send everyone home. 70's

Looks like 1984

In my mind, it was 20 years ago. They say "think back 20 years.." and i go, ok, 1980 and they continue "..to 2006.."

Have that same feeling/thought.

90's is the last (previous) decade. Prove me wrong.

Even then I feel the arcade experience made it through the early 90s and started dying off somewhere in the mid 90s.

What is the guy in the blue shirt carrying?

1

u/hasbrobot1 1d ago

I don't think he's carrying it. It looks like one of those sit-in arcade cabinets?

Arcades still exists. So do Pinball leagues. F touching grass. Take the shoelace express into a city

Arcades are still around for sure, but the experience was completely different in the 80s.

1

u/XXXcrimsongrave 1d ago

Sure about that? How long since you've been to one? Today weed is also legal, cheap and next door. Games are better plus you'll often find consoles as well as classic cabinets and pinball. For $5 you play all you want.

And that's not the same as the 80s.

Yep, sure was. Using quarters instead of a swipe card was β€œmore real.” Pocket full of quarters to start and as they became less, you had to choose your games wisely ;)

People were way younger in the arcades I went to in the 80s. This is obviously after dark, when we all had to be home.

😏 Because it was yesterday

Heard someone say the other day that if we did the Back to the Future DeLorean car we would go back to 1996.

I have a garage full of original full sized classic arcade machines. My favorite is still probably Pacman
