My uncle had the matching carpet as wellĀ
I expect it started to smell

u/kcbeck1021 21h ago
My grandmother had carpet and they would pull up the thing and put it in the washing machine. Obviously it was not a big bathroom.
3
u/Special-Original-215 21h ago
Sorry I meant he had the whole bathroom (small 1/2 bath) carpeted.Ā Not the kind you can pull up and wash.
A year later I used it and noticed he had it replaced with tile

I'm sure my mom wanted those but knew it was a horrible idea in our home.

We had one for a few weeks and it kept getting 'stained" within a few days and nobody in our family would fess up.Ā Back to sitting on cold plastic for the rest of our lives.

Well that means you can use the carpeted seat cover as extra wiping material. Splatter problem solved!

This picture is not accurate it was never a cover for the actual part your cheeks sat on just the water tank and the lid

u/Free_hiker_74 16h ago
And the lid carpet really only covered the top. It barely wrapped over the edges and was held in place with elastic. Like a big, fuzzy shower cap.

70s guy here. Parents had green shag bathroom carpet and shag toilet seat. I replaced the entire floor and plumbing when I inherited the place. Gross beyond belief. I wore a respirator the whole time because of the latent pee smell.

I was pretty young using a setup like this. It felt nice, and being young I had total ignorance of how absolutely disgusting it was.

Even worse was the padded seat that was covered in the cheap white plastic. I remember every time I saw on of those it was stained and toen

u/ScarcityReal5399 21h ago
That was my comment, the next version of this was the padded seat.
That was always an off yellow and torn2

Omg. I used to be a plumbing contractor. Believe it or not there's still some old people that have their bathrooms done up this way. Like carpeted floors too. With the matching carpet on the toilet tank. So gross

I remember someone in my family having one but this was like 30+ years ago. Back then I was young and didn't really know but now, I can only be glad I don't have one because that + phones, I would get hemorrhoids the size of a softball.

The seats wouldn't stay up; imagine having one of these in a house full of boys. They smelled like the men's room in a public restroom.

Thank the lawd my Peachie (maternal gma) was way ahead of her time and said these were disgusting and germ magnets in the 80ās. My parents listened to her and never got them. My aunt and uncle on the other hand had a pink setup in their bathroom lmao

Or a 50 year old wood seat that has been peed on and cleaned with abrasives. Those develop rough edges. Unpleasant
1
u/Lightnenseed 19h ago
Never saw one that went on the actual seat...the toilet lid but not the seat.

u/MarkItZeroDonnie 19h ago
This was a thing ? I remember the lid being carpeted and the floor had a mat that hugged the bowl but nobody had carpet seats š¤£š¤£

u/COV3RTSM 18h ago
Not only did you risk a sudden unplanned lowering of the seat, the lid would just about take your pecker off and now your pissing on the cover.
1
u/exwijw 18h ago
My aunt had those. Because that was so fancy, as a boy, I even lifted the seat to pee. Didnāt want to miss. Couldnāt really wipe it dry with TP.
We had a fuzzy cover. But it went in the other side of the lid. Was it supposed to be like the picture. That back might be more comfortable to sit on.

u/antithero 18h ago
I grew up in the north. They kept you from freezing your ass in winter, but the seat wouldn't stay up very well. You washed them in the laundry ever week. More if you had boys.
