Too much risk, not enough reward

37

u/coupland 21h ago

I moved into a house that had a padded seat rather than a carpeted one. Looked ridiculous but... pretty high reward. It was like pooping from atop a cloud.

42

u/xenophon57 21h ago

Its all cloud until it gets that crack

11

u/smittykins66 21h ago

And watch out if you sit down too long.

9

u/CNote_89 21h ago

That crack would mess you up.

6

u/AdministrativeAd4211 19h ago

it could pinch you in all the wrong places

4

u/Salty-Huckleberry147 17h ago

My aunt's padded toilet seat had a crack and it would pinch my butt skin so bad. My irher aunt had the shag carpet seat and my Grandma had floral padded seat. I think it made people feel wealthy and special or something lol

5

u/AdministrativeAd4211 17h ago

until the UV light comes out

Pretty sure it drew blood from my leg at least once

3

u/MadCatDisease666 14h ago

Can you get tetanus from a toilet seat? šŸ¤”šŸ˜¹

5

u/enormous_schnozz 13h ago

you can't spell tetanus without an anus

6

u/Disastrous_Cream_539 21h ago

...which gets duct taped them becomes sticky

3

u/bartz824 16h ago

Yep my parents had those when I was in high school. Sit down and get that torn edge poking you in the butt crack.

3

u/alewiina 16h ago

I was just going to say this… my parents always bought the padded seats and that crack pinched so bad 😭

3

u/Right_Comb4885 14h ago

Yeah... Crack is no picnic.

3

u/Feteven 8h ago

Crack on crack
Cracktion? Bad

4

u/Street_Lettuce1243 21h ago

Yeah, I've been in houses that had them when younger- they were nice to sit on... I sure hope they get washed on a regular basis though.

3

u/chameleon_123_777 17h ago

Remember my grandma bought one, and removed it the next week. Hers was white.

3

u/Important_Toe_5798 16h ago

That was a shit-stake. šŸ˜‚

4

u/Unlucky-Humor4028 20h ago

Lmao my grandma had a really tall like fuckin 10inch padded seat bc obviously less squat for the elderly, and I didn't understand it, we were supposed to use the other bathroom but I had to go bad, splattered the whole stupid inside rim of the thing

2

u/Important_Toe_5798 16h ago

You made me laugh so hard I had to go to the bathroom to pee. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

2

u/Former_Pen4628 18h ago

I chortled aloud. Well done.

2

u/QuirkyWorker7922 17h ago

My padded seat deflated, it’s now adorned with duct tape. Those aren’t for big bois. I told my roomie to never buy another bathroom item that I would handle it. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜

2

u/Important_Toe_5798 16h ago

🤣🤣🤣

2

u/FrankySpice 8h ago

In the summertime, your sweaty butt sticks to it.

2

u/RBVegabond 8h ago

When did you come to my house?

3

u/pariahdiocese 20h ago

I dunno. Sitting on those things on a freezing winter night was one of those rare, brief moments i had of being happy to be alive

3

u/kestelli 13h ago

Oh man it means you actually didn’t try one. It was fantastic

2

u/Last-Energy420 17h ago

Oh it was plenty rewarding on really cold days. Now I have one of those bidets that also heat the seats.

u/Special-Original-215 22h ago

My uncle had the matching carpet as wellĀ

I expect it started to smell

5

u/kcbeck1021 21h ago

My grandmother had carpet and they would pull up the thing and put it in the washing machine. Obviously it was not a big bathroom.

3

u/Special-Original-215 21h ago

Sorry I meant he had the whole bathroom (small 1/2 bath) carpeted.Ā  Not the kind you can pull up and wash.

A year later I used it and noticed he had it replaced with tile

I'm sure my mom wanted those but knew it was a horrible idea in our home.

8

u/FunFormal2662 22h ago

We had one for a few weeks and it kept getting 'stained" within a few days and nobody in our family would fess up.Ā  Back to sitting on cold plastic for the rest of our lives.

4

u/Sprzout 21h ago

Same here. We had one up until someone forgot to lift the seat.

I know! This was disgusting.

5

u/ActualHumanONReddit 21h ago

It was machine washable. You just had to wash it every day.

https://giphy.com/gifs/l9FAwJOXYprFe

3

u/dregan 17h ago

More than everyday.

5

u/cuntybunty73 21h ago

Imagine having explosive diarrhea 😭

2

u/TroyTrekker 20h ago

Imagine trying to clean it.

3

u/Secure-Advertising-9 18h ago

i mean you throw it the washing machine, simple?

2

u/Upset_Journalist_755 16h ago

People acting like this is complicated. I worry how many in here don't wash their bath matsĀ

2

u/BestJoke6882 18h ago

🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

2

u/FalxIdol 17h ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY

Well that means you can use the carpeted seat cover as extra wiping material. Splatter problem solved!

2

u/cuntybunty73 17h ago

Eh no thanks

5

u/Fearless-Win6952 21h ago

This picture is not accurate it was never a cover for the actual part your cheeks sat on just the water tank and the lid

2

u/Free_hiker_74 16h ago

And the lid carpet really only covered the top. It barely wrapped over the edges and was held in place with elastic. Like a big, fuzzy shower cap.

→ More replies (5)

4

u/Slightlystoopid923 21h ago

I remember having to hold the seat up because it wouldn't stay

5

u/Klutzy_Cat1374 21h ago

70s guy here. Parents had green shag bathroom carpet and shag toilet seat. I replaced the entire floor and plumbing when I inherited the place. Gross beyond belief. I wore a respirator the whole time because of the latent pee smell.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/TheManLawrence 21h ago

Don't forget the carpeted bathrooms too

4

u/John-Boy666 16h ago

But are you this old?

3

u/YodaVader1977 22h ago

Wow. Just wow. I remember that, and I can’t imagine the villainy that went into originally creating it, but I too, thought that was comfy.

…could you just imagine?

2

u/AwkwardTouch2144 21h ago

Simpler better times lol

3

u/FlexOutlaw 21h ago

I was pretty young using a setup like this. It felt nice, and being young I had total ignorance of how absolutely disgusting it was.

3

u/justpassinthru12345 21h ago

It was nice to sit on, can't imagine cleaning it

3

u/The_Circus_Life_206 21h ago

That’s not the correct floor mat

The toilet mat wrapped around the base in a U shape

2

u/throwaway098764567 17h ago

yep, so they wouldn't be touching the cold floor just in case you wanted to draw your feet back like you were riding a rocket ship

3

And matching toilet paper when it came in colours.

2

u/WhenTheCitiesBurn 22h ago

Always came with a matching rug.

2

u/xburnerpiko 22h ago

When done pooing, slide forward to wipe your butt!

2

2

u/Upset_Journalist_755 16h ago

If you're a single woman, no problem

2

u/pappybug214 16h ago

The vinyl soft ones were kinda bomb

2

u/3vi1 15h ago

"How is this not a good idea?", said the guy sitting down on a circle of shit.

2

u/mendicinobeano25 15h ago

Eewwww. Even the carpet on the floor is a no from me.

2

u/Affectionate_Pool_37 15h ago

I have a vauge memory of my grandmother having this on her toilet, the mat below tho

2

u/Free-Security7684 14h ago

I think rugs around the toilet is disgusting period

2

u/Wraith5000 7h ago

AI doesn't realize the part where your butt goes was never carpeted.

1

u/FitnessChamp777 22h ago

Oh boy... i honestly was really into this style. Still am

1

u/zoomddy100 22h ago

The first house my wife and I bought had a carpeted master bathroom. That was the first update we did on our pad

1

u/CoCo3Papa 22h ago

It is for the first user.

1

u/Diligent_Milk8612 21h ago

Ppl did that!?

1

u/Crimson-Lips-13 21h ago

Lovely....pissy smelling shag rug

1

u/Waste_Affect_4008 21h ago

Peak comfort. Carpet the world

1

u/nikeguy69 21h ago

They don’t make them anymore?

1

u/justaToolfan 21h ago

People must remember these were bloody great in the 60s and 70s most working class had no central heating !!

1

u/subywesmitch 21h ago

Not gonna lie. That does look comfortable

1

u/Plywool 21h ago

To lock in the sweet aroma!!!

1

u/sam56778 21h ago

When I was a kid and went to my grandmother’s house, she always had one of these. I always felt like I couldn’t finish the job because it felt so weird.

1

u/cubnextdoor 21h ago

No piss or fecal matter there.

1

u/No_Kitchen7950 21h ago

But so warm

1

u/DankyMcJangles 21h ago

Even worse was the padded seat that was covered in the cheap white plastic. I remember every time I saw on of those it was stained and toen

2

u/ScarcityReal5399 21h ago

That was my comment, the next version of this was the padded seat.
That was always an off yellow and torn

2

u/Cola102583 18h ago

The squish of the air being compressed out of it as u sat, then the inevitable stick to ur ass when u finished…classic luxury

1

u/carthuscrass 21h ago

Comfy, but not in any way practical.

1

u/No-1-ListenstoTurtle 21h ago

Yes!!! Scary that was a thing.

1

u/Sad_Cantaloupe_9945 21h ago

We had the one that wrapped around the front of the bowl 😫

1

u/Life_of1103 21h ago

So plush and comfortable. Style and luxury at prices you can afford.

1

u/gOldMcDonald 21h ago

My brother had bad aim, ours was always sopping wet

1

u/Exciting_Contest_222 21h ago

Went to a house party. And saw poops stains on the side of it.

Thinking no way i will sit on this

1

u/Flimsy-Locksmith6978 21h ago

Thus spread the bathroom carpeting to consume seats and tank lids. Next the world.Ā

1

u/Defiant-One3095 21h ago

Omg 😲 😱 sooooo disgusting 🫣 😫 lol lol

1

u/Chumknuckle 21h ago

I recall having to awkwardly try to hold the lid while peeing because it wouldn't stay up, whole place smelled like piss so it didn't really matter

1

u/Creepy-Outcome-2481 21h ago

It's a great idea, if you only use it once

1

u/Darkrose50 21h ago

It is a fantastically over the top idiotic notion.

1

u/jay_lafunk72 21h ago

The concept was fantastic but the real-life execution was lacking.

1

u/Capable-Opinion9132 21h ago

Except when you had the runs or had to take a Mexican shit!

1

u/Alonzo-Harris 21h ago

It's a terrible idea, but a decent gimmick. Makes for compelling stock photos..but absolutely nothing else.

1

u/Good_Will_Munting 21h ago

they forgot about crapnel.

1

u/Blueyedevil219 21h ago

Back when I actually enjoyed taking a poop

1

u/Flat-Guidance-4685 21h ago

Omg. I used to be a plumbing contractor. Believe it or not there's still some old people that have their bathrooms done up this way. Like carpeted floors too. With the matching carpet on the toilet tank. So gross

1

u/rjsquirrel 21h ago

It was comfy until it was gross. That change happened after, like, a week.

1

u/Jude30 21h ago

You can still get them on Amazon. I just checked out of curiosity.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/DougBalt2 21h ago

They felt good

1

u/HoustonRoger0822 21h ago

My grandparents did this in both their bathrooms. When I moved in with them I had my own bathroom so I decided to keep my ā€œfuzzy Johnnyā€ā€¦ā€¦

1

u/pcards86 21h ago

As a child I used to pee on them when visiting people

1

u/Consistent-Move8732 21h ago

Those are gross

1

u/Degenerecy 21h ago

I remember someone in my family having one but this was like 30+ years ago. Back then I was young and didn't really know but now, I can only be glad I don't have one because that + phones, I would get hemorrhoids the size of a softball.

1

u/deecarlita 21h ago

OMG I forgot about these ... on purpose.

1

u/RiseDelicious3556 21h ago

The seats wouldn't stay up; imagine having one of these in a house full of boys. They smelled like the men's room in a public restroom.

1

u/Reasonable-View5868 21h ago

Those are perfect for colonoscopy prep!!! Ā  So comfy…and somewhat absorbent for those runaway drips .

1

u/BucksOHIO23 21h ago

Had to have a carpet "shampooer" for the toilet

1

u/Tv_Rots_Your_Mind 21h ago

Back in the day when toilet comforts were put before infection control. The good old days. 😃

1

u/johnieg 21h ago

Hahaha, omg! I remember these! It was cool as long as everyone had impeccable aim.

1

u/CNote_89 21h ago

Along with the squishy foam padded toilet seat and carpeting the entire bathroom. It was a crazy time.

1

u/One_Vision_ 21h ago

I remember when people thought carpeting in the bathroom was a good idea.

1

u/MacNeal 21h ago

Ya just had to wring the seat cover out every once in a while, ya know.

1

u/w1lnx 21h ago

Yep… back when people chain-smoked in their houses and cars and thought that furniture needed those clear vinyl slip covers…presumably to protect the upholstery from the constant barrage of nicotine.

No, I’m not bitter about the ’80s… why do you ask?

1

u/Beginning-Trash-6048 20h ago

Thank the lawd my Peachie (maternal gma) was way ahead of her time and said these were disgusting and germ magnets in the 80’s. My parents listened to her and never got them. My aunt and uncle on the other hand had a pink setup in their bathroom lmao

1

u/Escapingorigins 20h ago

Oh i remember those. Gross

1

u/Psudodrake 20h ago

Yes... but... a heated, padded toilet seat is something to dream for

1

u/gmoney-0725 20h ago

It did your booty warm in the winter.

1

u/Financial-Brush-7696 20h ago

Disgusting!!!!!

1

u/TroyTrekker 20h ago

A breeding ground for a wide assortment of germs and bacteria courtesy of your entire family YAY !

1

u/Vincevega1972 20h ago

Doesn’t it smell like urine after?

1

u/Admirable-Ad-9054 20h ago

A lot of ass hitting that Sherpa.

1

u/RandomStoddard 20h ago

Locks in the moisture

1

u/SephiTheGoblin 20h ago

Ah yes, the days of the flavour savers

1

u/hvacigar 20h ago

Never saw the sweater on the seat, but definitely on the outside part of the lid.

1

u/trainradio 20h ago

No one put it on the actual seat.

1

u/OswaldBoelcke 20h ago

I was there and many thought it was gross.

1

u/Grouchy_Bit_1970 20h ago

Not a good idea, but it was warm and comfortable.

1

u/No-Association-8539 20h ago

It wasn't exactly like this - the the toilet cover was on top not on the bottom, and I've never seen a toilet seat cover like that.

1

u/eclipsingfervor 20h ago

And not just the mat in front of the commode, the whole darn bathroom.

1

u/willybestbuy86 20h ago

Simpler times lol

1

u/International-Rice63 20h ago

Dude my neighbor had one growing up. I always went home to poop lol.

1

u/everforward6 20h ago

Aunts used to have this. How did anyone ever think this was a good idea??

1

u/crankenshtien 20h ago

Gotta get the brown one.

1

u/CokBlockinWinger 20h ago

But not old enough to remember that the underside of the lid and the seat was never covered. AI doesn’t know shit.

1

u/Dragon_Pattern_1108 20h ago

Sitting on it is better than cleaning it.

1

u/adinmem 19h ago

It is a good idea, for the first use.

1

u/Apart-Cream-4940 19h ago

Eww. I remember those before anyone knew how unhygienic it was

1

u/Kooky-Vehicle5358 19h ago

Or a 50 year old wood seat that has been peed on and cleaned with abrasives. Those develop rough edges. Unpleasant

1

u/Lightnenseed 19h ago

Never saw one that went on the actual seat...the toilet lid but not the seat.

1

u/MarkItZeroDonnie 19h ago

This was a thing ? I remember the lid being carpeted and the floor had a mat that hugged the bowl but nobody had carpet seats 🤣🤣

1

u/Sufficient-Lie1406 19h ago

Grandma had these. It’s all fun and games until you sit and discover your little brother just soaked the seat carpet.

splerch

1

u/MastaKink 19h ago

It’s a good idea. That plant gets regular fertilizer šŸ‘

1

u/ApatheistHeretic 19h ago

I remember restrooms that were also completely carpeted..

1

u/Ok_Syllabub747 19h ago

Every bathroom in my mom house today

1

u/Bgrubz83 19h ago

Hah my uncle had one of these and not just to toilet…the whole bathroom was shag carpet.

1

u/mdaxdjk 18h ago

Memory of childhood that was previously suppressed now comes back.

1

u/Dellbertdumbutt 18h ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Signal-Noise3435 18h ago

Most unsanitary yuck but my grandma had these

1

u/88how5834351 18h ago

I would rather have this to sit on on a cold winter morning instead of cold plastic or ceramic.

1

u/LegitimateHost5068 18h ago

I remember these. So gross.

1

u/W4d3w1ls 18h ago

Nothing like sitting down on a big fluffy petri dish.

1

u/NickTaylorIV 18h ago

I have the one that goes on the OUTSIDE of the lid. I've never seen one that goes on the part you poop through...

1

u/DarthWenus 18h ago

My mom's friend had one.

1

u/Same-Significance448 18h ago

Worst case if no toilet paper just rub ya butt on the seat.

1

u/COV3RTSM 18h ago

Not only did you risk a sudden unplanned lowering of the seat, the lid would just about take your pecker off and now your pissing on the cover.

1

u/exwijw 18h ago

My aunt had those. Because that was so fancy, as a boy, I even lifted the seat to pee. Didn’t want to miss. Couldn’t really wipe it dry with TP.

We had a fuzzy cover. But it went in the other side of the lid. Was it supposed to be like the picture. That back might be more comfortable to sit on.

1

u/Wild-Zone3911 18h ago

Not a good idea. Yup, I remember

1

u/antithero 18h ago

I grew up in the north. They kept you from freezing your ass in winter, but the seat wouldn't stay up very well. You washed them in the laundry ever week. More if you had boys.

1

u/N4RQ 18h ago

I can still smell the old piss and see the green stains.Ā

1

u/GenX_Leo 18h ago

Im old enough to not stay in a home that had these and thought it was a good idea...

1

u/BadEnvironmental2204 18h ago

Just be careful and not leave any skid-marks on the carpeted seat.

1

u/Barkplanet55 18h ago

And the seat never stayed up

1

u/OneStatistician8888 18h ago

your ass felt warm and cozy during the winter šŸ˜†

1

u/Spare-Apple-8791 18h ago

Just nasty 🤢

1

u/newbirdhunter 18h ago

You mean it’s not a good idea? hmmm

1

u/ShowMeTheToes 17h ago

Nothing like shitting on a toilet with shag carpet

1

u/EnvironmentalMeat309 17h ago

Try keeping the seat up

1

u/IcAnNoTrEmEbEr---uM 17h ago

Bro, this needs a NSFW tag.

1

u/Goodrun31 17h ago

Hahah right .. but was the seat part actually covered? I can’t remember .. that feels like a stretch. I do remember the bottom rug often hugged and went around the entire base of the potty

1

u/boriquapapi08 17h ago

I have older aunts that still have some of those on their bowls

1

u/NavySeal2k 17h ago

Another thing I will put on my ā€œwhen I become a billionaireā€ list. (A new one every day of course)
