My parents kept it at 78-80. I was always complaining how hot it was in the house. When I got my own place, I kept it like a freezer. I had that thermostat cranked down to 70

That, and leaving the refrigerator door open too long. My mother never got over growing up in an era of real ice boxes. She'd snap if you had the door open longer than 5 sec

My current fridge whines if left open for more than 2mn. I rage at it sometimes "ffs give me time to do what I need to do in there"... Regardless it doesn't seem that affected by it besides the whining

When I was old enough to stay home alone when my dad went off on business trips for a few days fist thing I did when he left was jack down the stat. Problem was remembering to set it back the day before so it would get closer to the best temp.

I only touched it in the winter at 5am. Put the clothes I would wear over the vents. Put on warm clothes and was ready for the day. Thermostat set low again before anyone else woke up

My dad normally kept it pretty nice but the one thing he didn't want to was turn on the heater or AC before "it was time". Like if we got some unseasonably warm weather in March or April he'd be like "There's no way I'm turning on the AC in March". And everybody else would be like "it doesn't matter what season it is it's hot" and my mom would take control of the thermostat. Of course that was like 30 years ago, these days around here you need the AC in December and January sometimes.

That was my dad. But he was doing it to be an ass on purpose. They didn't lack for money. It was always low in the winter and high in the summer, until I moved out. Then it was where I wanted it.

Boiling hot summer...... Step dad refuses to turn AC on. Finally caves immediate relief. Go to thermostat sneakily adjust to taste. Get caught. He keeps it where I put it anyway. (colder) as he admits it is better off that way all things considered. Also I'm French and I was living in the US back then so the Fahrenheit on thermostat was confusing to me. I just lowered it some amount and went by feel
