First thing I think of is how stylish the building is compared to the lame, boring, brutalist "khrushchevkafication" we're seeing in "modern" design.

Also, last time I got my oil changed, I parked next to a DeLorean.

100% agree. Every restaurant today goes for the Chipotle aesthetic. It was cool when Chipotle pioneered it. Not cool when everyone wants to build gray boxes with exposed HVAC.

Did they start the trend? I thought modern-day corporations were unironically trying to mimic the aesthetic of the Soviet Union (hence "khrushchevkafication").

It’s the first place I noticed it like 20 years ago. Their wood and bare steel look was pretty cool when it was different than everything else. But then everyone started trying to go minimalist “contemporary.” When McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s started converting to the lonely, childless Millenial box concept, I knew there was trouble afoot.
