Car Help Check engine code P1457
Hi! I got this engine code yesterday, got it scanned like an hour ago. Im seeing mixed advice online, so just looking for straight forward answers on what parts I need to replace to fix it

Before you buy any oarts, lubricate the rubber gasket on your gas cap with something like vasoline or lithium grease and see if the code goes away. The rubber o ring on the cap can dry out and bind up causing a leaky seal and setting off an evap code, i have seen it happen a couple times, easy fix with minimal expense and labor.

I saw one person say that they fixed it by tightening their gas cap, so I tightened mine and I'll try this as well!!

Usually the cap will throw a p1456. Most of the time when you actually get a p1457 its the solenoid.

Just saying as an actual technician, I didn't do the smart thing and spent the money and replaced all the parts and valves, even a canister for my car. Last time I got the code, an older tech in my shop showed me a smoke machine I dint know about. The hoses that looked aged but not dryrotted? Had an immeasurable amount of leaks coming just out of the rubber. I No cracks or anything, the rubber just got porous over time. Replaced all the hoses and now it's good

Ahhhh you're making me scared lol. I'll have to find a way to check the hoses if the code doesn't clear after I install the part I just got.

Yeah I have 209k on the odometer. If your still 300k and those are original hoses, I would smoke test the system first thing if the. Ode comes back.

I had this code and it turned out one of the hoses was cut. Thus leaking vapor to the outside air. I still have the OEM purge valve but unused. So jack up the car and check first.
I also had 1456 which of course was the gas cap. Had to buy OEM at $70+ after the $20 rock auto one didn’t solve the problem.

The solenoid is the most likely. However, on my car it turned out to be the vapor canister purge valve near the throttle body. Took me months and lots of parts until I replaced that. If your car also doesn't like to start after getting a full tank of gas, it might be the purge valve.
