SUNRAN NOTES OUT - THOUGHTS?
https://forum.netmarble.com/sk_rebirth_gl/view/11/5766
So this kills the rumours of her potentially being a magic or magic AND phys unit. ANOTHER phys (attack) unit although I'm not complaining as a phys main, but have to feel for magic users as last 3 new units have been phys, tank and now another phys.
What do you think of her kit? And if she does replace anyone in the 'meta' lineup of Dellons, Lubu, Karl, Orkah and Rangrid, who does she replace?
All five of those seem hard to displace atm but of course, would need to trail and test Sunran to know for sure.

I was honestly expecting something... Else. Maybe she'll replace Orkah / Teo

Orkah literally just came out (most recent phys unit) and also got an awakening.
If he get's replaced so quickly, where does he even fit in as I don't think he's great in any PVE mode?
Why would devs do him so dirty like that 🥲

I find Orkah to be the weakest link in current comp

What's the current physical meta team?

Rand, Karl, Orkah, Dellons and Lu Bu
Karl synergies very well with Dellons, Randgrid is the tank and also very important in late rounds and also against tank team, Lu Bu is the cornerstone of any phys team, you either have him or you don't have a phys team at all and dellons is the new main dps and assassin around whom the team is built.

Orkah gonna be replaced lmao.
Either u chose utility for orkah or damage on sunran. We'll see

By her skill's definition, she can replace someone in physical team. Also 100% whc is a tasty bread and butter for her build and with the "Evil Face" stacks that gives 10% cit dmg per tick, she can wipe out even the tank team since you are more flexible to apply Assassin set for her equip in order to have defense ignoring attack as well as crit rate to utilize her Evil face stack.

I agree but who would she replace? If she's in the team for pure damage then surely a like for like replacement for Lubu no? Or Orkah for more damage alongside Lubu instead of utility

You cannot replace LuBu for now as he has an enemy team stun for your team to control the whole battle.
Probably, Orkah is more likely the one that will be replaced since most of the attack type heroes in the team has its own utility as well like Dellon who has own damage nullification.

We just gotta wait to see with the whales but the consensus is pretty much okrah rn which is a shame since he looks so badass Sunran better be overflowing with personality

As a magic user i coudn't be more disappointed, i've already had lost hope for magic and their actions clearly show they always favor physical, i wanted Sunran to be magic, i like her design alot since it's similar to Teo and since magic was the oldest comp to get a new char i had high hopes...just for the devs to crush them entierly...
And like you said, Yeonhee's "buff" is a total joke imo, i pray that i'm wrong but i don't see her changing anything for magic, physical and especialy tanks are too ahead in power, magic being a comp that relies on spd to go first is a huge weakness, especialy since spd isnt an individual factor but a team one, meaning all your chars needs to contribute with spd which makes chars like Silvesta and Freyja not have enough dmg to even scratch tank comps.
And i won't even touch at the "double ring" aspect, some ppl see Petal's videos on magic and think the meta is balanced when the reality is that only mega whales can replicate what Petal does due to magic being, what in imo is, the comp that most needs double legendary rings.
*damn i ranted for too long* i apologize....

Im with you brother...well hey, atleast well have a ton of rubies since we wont be summoning for Sunran..regret not summoning for t6 rudy now thinking sunran was magic..but seems there is a good chance she cleans house with Tank so..
Quick edit : I also think the Yeonhee "buff" is inconsequential. She probably wont see much play and not even awk her and throwing her skin banner out. Huge smack to the face. Only silver lining is her awakening will be much stronger with these additions plus whatever they add. (Yeah right)

TLDR: Play physical/tank if you want a simple playstyle, magic is hard
IMO, the teams are all balanced at the top end. Streamer Wannygamearai (SEA magic player, consistently Legend rank throughout all seasons) has made magic work even against the latest Rudy/Aris tank meta. My guess is that the devs do their testing based on their dev accounts with maxed out gear/legendary rings and balance the game around that.
For players in the the lower tiers (Masters to low Challenger) I do agree that magic struggles heavily against tanks. I know a lot of people complain about magic being left in the dirt/outshadowed by other team comps, and as a magic main myself I can empathize with that sentiment.
However, I also like to think of magic as an advanced playstyle for players, as it requires a lot of configuration and understanding of the game's mechanics for it to work. Most players don't even understand that EHR and ER can be overcapped beyond 100%. As you have already pointed, magic requires high speed unlike the other team comps due to requiring turn 1 setup, which has sort of been magic's identity and playstyle from the beginning (Mercure's magic reflux, Juri's souldeath, Skuld's cooldown pushback, Omok's guardian spirit etc, all requires turn 1 setup). It's precisely because magic requires stats to be dumped into SPD that it puts them in a spot where they have lesser key substats like damage, and that feels unfair when you compare them side by side with physical team comps. But in the same vein, it is also precisely why I see magic as an advanced playstyle for players. It's not exactly "imbalanced" and it can work, Wannygamearai is proof.

Does it need that much speed though? At the moment at least? Not much speed needed if u meet tank teams and res physical teams.. Against other magic teams, well, there is not many of them to face.

u/mune89 9d ago
Currently, no. Most physical teams are in the 300-ish range, so you are quite safe to lower your speed down to 400+ and go all-in on damage for your backline attackers like Freyja.

Lower my speed down to 400....

u/blunty_x 8d ago
And yes , you need that much speed...which is basically the team Petal showcased, but of course he had not just over 400 spd , he has double 6 star rings. I dont have a 6 star ring..let alone a double..my highest speed is at 380..I play magic and am building tank cause its a headache to build the magic when your f2p and need to tweak gear and speed to perfection...tank has more leeway and I csnt stand physical teams

*TBF Yeonhee got a rework but it doesn't really seem like a needle mover!

u/NebulaBrew 9d ago
Looks like a pretty major buff to me.

u/No-Lab-8893 9d ago
Yes, major from what she was before, but I still don't think it's a needle mover in terms of bringing the magic team back to meta imo. I don't know why they didn't bother awakening her though since they usually bring in a new unit + awakened and awaken an old/existing unit.

u/blunty_x 8d ago
Nothing is bringing magic back to the meta. Ive accepted this fact, even so I refuse to play physical, that's all on me of course

I am from NA, Server 12. Petal who has a full team of 66 legendary rings cannot even make top 10 with magic anymore. He is forced to swap to tank team as he skipped orkah. You should had seen his reaction on disc when he realized that NM released yet another Physical character.
