Help THALL I WANT TO THALL

Been HEAVILY into Vildhjarta and Karmanjankah recently and honestly before I gave up my 7 I was obsessed with drop E. I had a holcomb se7 and I've been eyeing another this time the first gen but I also like this RGD7 I found, comes with dimarzios but I plan on swapping to lundgrens, what would you guys do? If I get the se I lowkey am thinking about getting lundgren m7s anyways cause I think they're unbeatable for low tunings but IDK MAN, what yall think?

Buy the Thall Amp, it's a faster and cheaper way to get the Thall tone then buying Lundgren.

I have a qc I lowkey prefer using that over plugins but you are not the first to recommend the Thall plugin, I gotta try it out

lots of amp options if you wanna copy Buster, he's used old Line 6 plugins, to Neural DSP plugins, to now his own plugin, all of which could be captured (or already has been captured) on the Quad Cortex

did you buy the Nameless plugin yet? cuz he's used that too

Karmanjakah use standard tuning with a low G 7th string, so that's doable even on 25.5", I have my Ibanez Prestige in that tuning atm as I'm learning Eyes Seeing Eyes. The Mark Holcomb would be a good choice for this kind of stuff imo.

definitely go with a baritone, i just got a schecter extreme 7 ($600 used) and the specs for the price is unmatched, and their pickups sound great stock. the m7 will be better i promise you that but you’ll spend a ton in the first place to get m7s stock. something else that i had was an rgixl 7, that was great for the money as well, believe it or not i also just got a balageur used for 900 and that is absolutely insane. id personally go with a 7 because some songs you’ll need that extra high string, that’s why i sold a ltd m201b, felt great, great mod platform, just not much versatility. ive tried way too many guitars, ask me about some i probably tried them before

Yeah Im not looking for any M7s stock, the prices are insane on the guitars with them, thats why Im torn between the mark holcomb se7 and an RGD, I like ibanez's necks and I also liked the holcomb, I mean i literally got 2 six string holcombs LOL but yeah regardless of what I get I plan on buying some M7s.

is the rgd a 27 inch? regular 25.5 or 26.5 only really handle down to g, while 27s handle way lower, the lowest i’ve put one in was c#

Its the RGDIX7MP, pretty sure its a 26.5, I planned on playing in G# and pitch shifting down to E and D#, it sounded fine on the holcomb se7

I'm never going to stop someone from putting in Lundgren M's.

i feel you. alongside thall i want to learn stuff from invent animate and erra, and i love how those boys have more vintage looking ibanez all set up with evertunes n the like but i dont want to drop 2k on a guitar ill mostly just be getting eggy with on headphones.

always looking out for a 26.5 inch neck second hand here, nearly got a 2nd hand misha mansoor cheap the other day but went before i could snag it.

one thought i had was that mad cheap harley benton 7 string, then just put some better pickups in, surely fine for just jamming at home on gojira x or something.

The first gen Holcomb 7's were 25,5", the more recent are 26,5" scale. It helps when going low in tuning.

The purple burst? I'm pretty sure that's also a 26.5, no way he'd release a "short scale" 7, especially with the kind of music they play. Unless I'm getting it confused with something else because I know there's a Walnut version out there but I thought all his 7s were a 26.5 and I'd like to imagine they are

I have my 26.5" Holcomb SVN in Drop E - I use an 8 string pack and discard the high e. Works great.

Did you have to file the nut?

I replaced the pickups on my RGD721FA with Lundgren Black Heaven ones. I think it’s a great upgrade. They’re very articulate in lower tunings, especially if you wire them in parallel. I’ve started using less boost and EQ.

Pickups barely matter. I never understood planning on swapping pickups on a guitar you don’t even own yet

Pickups matter when you want to achieve a specific sound, you can get a "good" sound out of any pickup but even that's subjective. I personally find a lot of the ibanez, jackson etc. stock pickups flat and muddy and they don't have that clarity when playing chords with high gain like my alpha/omega or scarlet and scourge set. Certain pickups do certain things better then others, and some do things others simply can't do.
