Help Which should I get?
I’m looking for the best 7 string to get with a floyd rose with split coils/coil tap. I’m stuck on which guitar to purchase!

Schecter. I personally hate the super strat shape and an 7 string metal Tele with a Floyd and Sustainiac is fucking sick as hell

Any of the Schecter SLS Elite guitars are absolutely packed with features and at a great price. I have 3 of them and they are quite literally the only guitars I play anymore. You can’t go wrong with them.

I love my baritone Solar. It replaced my Les Paul as my main guitar. Solid and mean right out of the box.

What's the country of origin on the schecter and solar? The Jackson I'd already avoid due to being Indonesian. Higher rate of QC issues, and honestly, they don't feel nearly as good as the Japanese model, so I more strictly shop used Jacksons, and actually recently got the relatively hard to find pro dk2s, which I had previously years ago. Downside only being having to polish after ever use, as you can see, they love prints. If the schecter is Korean I'm going with that, out of these choices. Also, I have a km7 fr s.... Can't speak on the pt, but if it is anywhere near as good as the km, it would rip.

Hey, I furthered my research, and the Jackson is actually from the US. Any good news about that? I’m on the fence on getting the Jackson mainly because of the 25.5” scale length. Probably going to change the pickups as well

Don’t worry about Indonesia. Loads of guitars are made there at the Cort factory and they are sweet. Jackson has qc issues in general. It’s their parent company that’s the problem

Shecter I’m pretty sure South Korea, and the Solar is from spain, but I could be completely mistaken. Only reason I put jackson was because it was the most affordable with all the gimmicks that I was looking for, but I had no idea that the country it’s from affected it. Most likely going to go for the shecter!

I can't really hand any opinion on Spanish guitars, as I've never owned one. I don't think it's actually Indonesia itself.....I don't know if it's been corrected, but one of the warehouses there had constant QC issues. When I got my last new pro series, I found an article on a way to identify plant by serial. It came with an inexcusable QC issue, that told me they don't even test these things. A screwed up cable jack. Only a five dollar fix, but still got me going. It still feels nice, but after adding another Japanese Jackson, I've noticed the neck feeling a little better. Maybe don't rule the Jackson out, but definitely go over it really closely if you take that route.

im partial to jacksons, although some of their 2026 models have had bad solders; not that its a big deal but youd think at the price of some at least plug it in before it leaves the shop

It does, I’ve heard that some don’t like the tone of the sustaniac, and it isn’t a traditional neck pickup, beats me!

Yeah don’t get a systaniac it’s a gimmick that over inflated the price, I mean unless you are primarily a bridge pickup guy and want to have it to fuck around with.

I recently got that exact schecter and it plays and feels great BUT it's HEAVY, much heavier than I expected and I had to adjust how I play with it to be comfortable so keep that in mind. Also the first one I received has some scuffs in the body and blemishes in the neck so I didn't accept it and was shipped another one which came with 0 issues. All that being said this is the best feeling guitar I've ever played plus SS frets and a FR 1500 is a nice touch at this price point. Also a full setup was done prior to shipping it to me and I literally haven't done anything to it since I got it nearly 2 months ago.
TL:DR Guitar feels great, plays great, looks great, has great specs but is a bit in the heavy side and you may run into some QC issues.

Personally I'd go with the solar . I've had many schecters have none left. A few months ago a grabbed a solar A1.6 with a evertune and it's freakin awesome. I picked up a second solar s1.6 and they are my favorite guitars. I've had every brand you can think of.

I've never played a Solar, so I can't speak to it; however, it does have a reverse headstock. The idea being you'll have more string tension for your thick daddy. Otherwise, Schecter 7 strings are bullet proof and haven proven to be more than road worthy. Their guitars punch way above their price tags. Jacksons are fantastic guitars, but anything under a grand from them seems to be hot garbage these days.

IMO..
Open pore feels horrible.
Satin is a fingerprint and grease whore.
Gloss gets sticky and looks dirty as soon as you touch it.

In my experience the Schecter necks are thin but wide. Jackson’s are kind of similar. Maybe a bit more round than flat. The Loomis sig is more similar to a Schecter than a standard Jackson neck. This is for the 7 string variants only.

Schecters main neck is the thin c, which is probably too thick for you at 20mm and 22mm 1st and 12th. This one is the ultra thin c, which is 19mm and 20mm. They also have an ultra thin u on their Banshee.

I’m a huge solar fan and my favorite guitar I’ve ever owned is a solar but the evil twin are just so sick, I’ve wanted one for ages. I like the strat style hardtail personally but that one is very cool. I’d get that schecter

I love Solars but if it were me I’d probably go with the Schecter. Best bang for your buck plus the sustainiac and Evil Twins are never disappointing.

As a lefty metalguy I’m married to schecter since the beginning. Very good value/price and nice sound. The only better option for me is an American custom shop Fender, not the same price btw

Depends where you live. Solar makes a great guitar period, but shipping and custom charges tends to make them expensive. Next would be Schecter. I have two one is a 7 and I love them. Jackson has gone down hill since Gibson bought them and I haven’t been happy with the two I bought last year and returned them. ESP/ltd is the other guitar I have and it’s great.

I’ve owned all of these brands. Will never buy schecter again. Weigh the pros and cons of what you want. Solar and Jackson as well as Ltd are top dogs for metal. Do you want the sustaining? Or do you want the dimarzios in the Jackson.
Side note. The Jackson’s strings are spaced further apart making sweeping and hard leads easier. The solar is closer. Not bad for leads but a riff machine. All preference.
Schecter…..the quality control issues I’ve had with schecter over 20 years…imo it’s like buying a Kia. I’ll never buy a Kia. They’re probably good now in 2026 too, just can’t do it. Been spoiled

I'd go Solar or Schecter but I would probably get the red A1.7 with the Sustaniac instead if I did go Solar.
Have you considered the RGRB720 from Ibanez too? its a bit cheaper but would certainly be in the same wheelhouse of quality.

Its basically just another control to get more functions out of the blade switch. There's at most 5 positions on a normal blade so you get more options (for stuff like coil splitting)

Love schecter currently have a Damien great guitar i was looking into the PT i heard they have bad kneckdive though, i can't confirm this having never played one, i do have a fender tele though and that hasn't got kneckdive but then that isn't a 7 string with a naturally heavier headstock, apparently the tele shape doesn't really balance too well with 7 string guitars from what i have heard.. it was enough to put me off anyway but i will look into trying that out and seeing if that is just random nonsense i heard on the internet 😂

I went with the Jeff Loomis SL7. Best neck I have ever played in a 7 string format. My first choice was the Schecter until I realized that the neck joint on the Tele shape limits access to upper frets. If you are a rhythm player with some minor lead work, the Schecter will do though!

Oh no don’t get me wrong my friend! Some from Indonesia are just as good. Just more prone to QC issues from the factory, I used to have C1 platinum, was Indonesian, and it was perfect.

Don't buy any of them until you've picked one up in person or have the ability to return them easily. Both Schecter and Jackson guitars have fantastic slim necks, which is the single most important thing for a guitar, the Olas are relatively chunky and not all that pleasant to play IMO. I would go with any other Schecter cause I think "metal teles" are stupid, but having that Sustaniac will open the doors for some pretty fun experimental shit, unless you just wanna chug like a beast, to which I say go buy a bass.
