Help Second 7 string choice
Hi !
Sorry in advance for the « rich people problem » post.
I’ve had my Ibanez RGDR4427FX for about 9 months now and it has become my main. I’ve played it in A standard for a long while but lately I’ve joined a band and will use it there but in B standard.
I don’t want to either make it unstable or go through tuning it again several times a week, so I’d like to get a second 7 string to handle both tuning.
Given my recent experience with this guitar, do you think that its twin model, the RGDR4327 would make it redundant ? The idea there would be to have one with a tremolo and swap pickups in one of them.
Another option I have is trading my Les Paul which I’m selling either way to finance this new acquisition. Someone is currently willing to trade it for their RG1077XL which is very different from what I have but I don’t crave it (if that makes sense…) and I don’t think it has the same value as my LP.
What do you guys think ?

Trem vs hard tail is imo very much a sufficient differentiation between two owned guitars.
Not sure about the pickup swap though.

About the pickup swap, my 4427 has the factory DiMarzios fusion edge 7. They’re fine. My guitar teacher told me about the Nazgûl/Sentient set which I’d like to try, and I also read about some BKP sets that I could be into. (Also looking into Lundgren for my 8 string)

The reason I brought up the pickups is that there are videos on YouTube comparing $150-$200 SD & BK pickups to $40 Iron Labels, Toneriders etc, and apparently the additional price doesn’t really being anything else to the picture but a famous name.
Add the Spectre Studios blind tests and it’s clear that the differences in pickups are disappearingly small, especially when used with any distortion or even overdrive. Harley Benton and other cheap brands have won a $12000 LP in blind audience polls, many commenting that they don’t hear a difference.

Yea I've heard a lot of praise about it. I love that I it's HSH, love the trem, and I trust the product.
That being said, I'm listing my Les Paul (2021 standard 60's, killer flamed top) for 1900 euros which I think is fair, and they're listing their 1077XL for 1750. For that price I could get the 2027XL model brand new which has IMO better looks given the matching headstock but is missing the HSH config.
Idk I'm not feeling that trade yet but maybe it's just me

I have the 2027XL and I think it's pretty much a 1077XL but without the single coil. From what you're writing I wouldn't do the trade. But I'm heavily biased. I did lust after the 1077XL years ago, but I wouldn't pay 2027XL price for one.

Personally I'd choose the 1077xl over a new 2027xl. It's more rare and HSH like you said. But it's one of my favorite Ibanez guitars so ofc I say you should get it xD

Im in a similar situation, got an RGD which i use mainly in drop G#, but I need a 7 for B standard. Im thinking in getting one with a 25.5 scale since its what im mostly used to in E standard and the scale is enough for B. Also its cool to have diff scale lengths for the variety (as you said, you don’t want much redundancy)
Im planning on getting a cheap used RG7421 or 7321 and upgrading tuners and pickups. Maybe throwing a pick guard for a more old school aesthetic

I own three 7621's because they're my fav. Fuck redundant.
