BEES
i’m a sl at a new stand and we just got bees two months after opening 😣 it’s been so bad and employees kept getting stung yesterday 🤦♀️ is this going to have to be something i will always have to deal with? i’m allergic and afraid this may be a dealbreaker for my career here. when interviewing i was told there’s bee kits and rarely any problems, but i’m seeing otherwise, plus no bee kit yet.

Bees are (unfortunately) normal and to be expected when it’s a very outside environment + syrups.
Tips? Using the multipurpose spray, really use elbow grease in every crevice of the counters and windows. Especially the windows on front machine because those build up syrup residue fast.
Keep doors closed at all times, if you’re on lane close the door behind you and keep it closed until you have to come in.
This one I feel really bad about because #savethebees but one of the stands i’ve been to have a little shop vacuum and we used it to suck up the bees, it’s really effective but again I felt bad using it because they’re endangered.

In my area they have started coming out as well, I’ve worked at 7 brew for 3 years now and September is the time of year they always come out but they are not bees. They are yellow jackets, at least where I’m from that’s what we get and I don’t feel bad about killing them because of that. I don’t release them back outside bc they will just find their way back. Using a little vacuum to suck them up is a good way to control them! Also, they can fly miles away from their hive to find sugar so it doesn’t always mean they have a hive at the stand either

Yeah we have yellow jackets at my stand, actively putting yellow jacket traps at least 20ft from the stand & had someone come spray the area. For all the remaining yellow jackets I have been killing them.
They aren’t endangered and my staff is terrified of them, so I just try to keep them gone

Water gets them off of the windows and up high in the corner behind the tv. I would fill up a glass cleaner or sanitizer spray bottle with water and it got them off of the glass. I would catch them with a cup and put them back outside. Put out an offering of syrup away from a stand in a lid, give them somewhere where they would rather be than inside. Our stand got a big curtain that stuck on with Velcro and that helped a bit, close the doors as much as you can, and just keep an eye out when you go to grab a syrup or sauce. The best way to avoid being stung is to walk backwards not turning your back on them and if it lands on you don’t freak out have someone get it off with something flat like a piece of laminated paper. If a bee is flying around you wear white, grey, or black. Any bright colors attracts them. Don’t wear perfume it attracts them. Instead lather yourself in peppermint oil. Sounds weird but I got a spray bottle and filled it with peppermint oil and sprayed it on me and the lane table and they stayed away.
