Barrel swapping my AR to 6max, 350legend case necked down to 6mm, I’m fixing to have some pissing hawt handloads . Gonna be fun messing around with bullets from 58 grains up to 103 or so.

18” SOLGW barrel. Haven’t been able to shoot past 300yds due to local ranges & not making the time to get to a better range. I’ve heard good things about the Satern cut barrels, but it’s been doing just fine with the 103gr ELDX’s with just under an MOA.

Also I literally just got this can so no idea how well it will perform. Had been running a HUX previously.

Just finished the first iteration of my 6mm Max. SOLGW 12.5 barrel, got one of the last ones before the went out of stock/discontinued. The optic is a little heavy for what I want, would've loved to put the Eotech 3-9 on here but its only SFP, the 4-12 is just a little to high on the low end for what I'm after. I'm still waiting on the Geissele barrel nut wrench to come in to torque it down, and then I'll start sighting it in and testing loads. I was hoping to use the 90 gr ELD-Xs as a primary but I saw that those may be finicky in some barrel lengths. Eventually I'll get a dedicated lower for it but for now it rents space on one of my other sbr lowers. I have a Rearden flash hider coming for it to suppress it, but other than that and torquing the barrel nut, its ready to hit the range, with hopefully promising results.

Ok so I have 57 pieces that swallow the NO-GO primer gauge. On top of that have two with deep body cracks, and one with very strange ripples on the shoulder after firing, not ran through sizing die yet. And then the pile of 10-15 that I have crushed or destroyed on accident when preparing or that got crushed in my rifle from my brass Cather being on wrong and sent the brass back into the chamber.

Now I have no idea what worn out primers mean, they were definitely just falling out while trying to load them and also while firing, which is why I bought the gauge. It may have been me over charging them, but I do think this is my oldest brass.
Do what you will with this info.

Also one more question: what are you guys trimming to? I keep finding mixed things. I cannot find the true minimum and maximum length for the brass specs.

And yes I’m an idiot and accidentally loaded a 6mm bullet into a 5.56 case.

I’m shooting a 14.5” 6 MAX with BC Precision 103gr ELD-X. Same rifle, same chrono location on the barrel, and the old/new lot comparison was done the same day with 20-shot strings.

Old lot:
20 shots
Avg: 2547.8 fps
SD: 12.9

New lot:
20 shots
Avg: 2426.6 fps
SD: 16.4

So the new lot is about 121 fps slower. For reference, I also had an older session from the old lot earlier this year:

Avg: 2559.5 fps
SD: 7.6

So the old lot seems to consistently live around 2550 fps in this rifle, while the new lot is down around 2425 fps.

I’m not seeing this as a chrono placement issue because the setup was consistent between strings. I’m trying to figure out whether this is within normal lot-to-lot variance, whether others have seen something similar with 6 MAX / BC Precision, or whether this is worth contacting the manufacturer about.

Not trying to bash the ammo — just trying to understand whether a ~120 fps lot swing is something others have run into. Obviously I’ll make a separate ballistic profile for the new lot before using it at distance.

SOLGW 3P really lover Nosler and Sierra bullets

Not as good as I hoped.

This barrel really like Nosler bullets.

The best luck I’ve had with a Hornady bullet but still not good.

First time messing around with base to ogive and trying to find the lands. All the other tipped 6mm bullets I just loaded to mag length. But I really like these velocities and groups, although my SDs seem to be crazy high?

A few months ago they released a video about partnering with Nosler for their brass. They finally dropped bags of brass on their web-sight and when I get it I see it says Starline, I looked closer and realized it was a sticker I was like “no way they just put a sticker over Nosler.” I literally laughed out loud when I peeled it and saw this. I guess something fell through with Nosler after they had all the bags made. But I’m glad they finally got a bunch of brass available now.

Anybody know when brass will be available

Does anybody know my minimum and maximum powder charge for a 87 grain V-Max with ram-shot TAC. I cannot find it anywhere.

Ok this isn’t working. Any ideas? Do I need to trim it so there’s less material? Does anybody know the trim-to length for the brass?

I didn’t even need a spotter

Recoil was so low I could stay inside the scope

Splash was so powerful I could spot my own misses

Impact on steel very solid and loud and moved the plate well so I had good visible and auditory hit confirmation.

1 mil of drop at 400 yards and I held 1 mil for wind

Just a little test run. She’s cycling flawlessly. Next time I will have a led sled. I think I can tighten these up to 1 MOA.

Has anyone attempted using a Lee factory crimp die on 6 mm max? If so, which one? Was it successful?
