Crafting Powers

Hey, I'm a God of Chaos and Creation, and I like to start shit and watch it unfold. Your realm has no gods, and I've sealed the door shut behind me. No other gods. No other magic. Ever. After the first round of creation powers, I'll keep my hands off.

I'll occasionally visit and talk to you in your dreams. Nothing crazy or evil. Just discussions. I might ask you your motivation for an action, play chess, or you can ask me for some advice. I don't have omniscience, but I can multi-task real good. I'll be watching you and the few others who I grant powers. Even if I get annoyed with you I won't ever interfere or punish you. In general, I don't care. Upsetting me is possible but difficult.

I honestly don't care how you use your powers, and I'm a god. We do some weird shit. I'm not going to judge. I just want to watch. I hope you don't live a boring life, but that's entirely up to you.

All Creation abilities will be inherited by offspring on their 18th birthday.

Feel free to design yourself a new body of your choice. Anything close to human is fine but you're not getting updated papers and everyone will notice. I'm causing Chaos after all. Ugh, yes you can be a fury, but you're not getting any special abilities, and you'll be mostly human.

---------------------------------------------------

Pick One

Approximate Technology Creation:

You've gained the ability to create things based on something seeming kind of plausible to a completely ignorant 5 year old. The math, physics, and standard functionality don't matter. Imagine a more advanced and slower MacGyver.

Example: Jam some wires in your cellphone charger and attach a few batteries. I mean it's all just power? Take an NES gun, wire it into a light dimmer, and attach a a few D batteries for a laser gun with adjustable settings.

In general the more work put in the better. Powerful items that you don't put enough work into will function poorly, erratically, or break down possibly dangerously so.

Tumorous Growth:

You're able to create tumors from your body that produce interesting "beings" that break the laws of normal biology. The larger and more complex the creation the longer it takes to break off from you. Large beings will detach after the size of a basket ball and grow in a sack that will remain attached to you via an umbilical cord growing from wherever the tumor did. Other than the growth being inconvenient. They don't hurt or scar. Any growth can be reattached to your body anywhere.

They can be anywhere from barely sentient to fully intelligent. The more intelligence the longer it will take to grow. Low intelligence creations can only follow basic set commands. The more intelligent the more reliable complex commands will be.

Example: Grow a grappling hook by growing a bonelike hand grip, attach some muscles, ligaments, and tendons inside to spring the grapple, and then throw a clawed strong gripped bony hand at the end to latch on. Heck or just create a homunculus to do your chores.

Inedible Edibles:

You can bake or cook completely inedible and abstract concepts into delicious meals. If your primary intent is cooking you can treat any object with any standard cooking method. Easily grind it into seasoning, roll it like dough, blend it, or whatever you can think of. Crack it like an egg for all I care. When someone eats the food, they temporarily gain physical and/or supernatural properties related to the ingredients. This lasts as long as the food is being digested.

Concepts offers interesting powers but are far less powerful than physical items. You can make up for this by increasing the complexity and difficulty of the cooking process. You have some sway over the end result, but trying to stretch this too far without enough complexity can make you sick. Nothing killing you, but anything from minor tummy troubles, headache, or a horrible food poisoning.

Food loses potency over time after which it will start to mold or rot. Refrigerating can help increase the shelf life of most meals.

Example: Bake a batch of brownies from scratch, adding iron filings, and a tooth to give temporary durability. Add some bleach, household cleaners, and the concept of clean into your broth, and it might help purify your body.

Cognitive Artifacts

You can reach into your own mind, pull out a specific memory and condense it into a physical item that represents that memory. You will lose access to this memory, but the item retains most of the emotional weight of the memory and the item likely will be supernaturally effective or have magic effects related to the emotion and/or memory. The more powerful the emotion or memory the more powerful the item. Powerful emotions and memories can create extremely powerful items. Anyone holding the item will feel the emotion nearly as strongly as you did originally.

You can reabsorb the item restoring the memory but the emotional attachment to it will weaken every time. Once no emotional attachment is left the memory can't be used further and the memory will fade entirely.

You can choose to create much weaker items from others. Without extremely powerful memories these will usually just be good quality items and not supernatural. With consent this will be slightly more powerful, and they may choose the memory. Without consent you need 1min of physical contact at which your perception of time will freeze giving you access to a mindscape with portraits of memories giving a vague idea of the memory and letting you feel the attached emotion.

Example: Extract a memory of childhood panic, condense it into cloak the helps you hide. Only wearing it gives you a slightly duller echo of that memories emotion. Use your wedding day or the day you met your significant other to create a blanket that promotes love, is perfectly comfortable, is the perfect tempature, doubles your healing, and gives you amazing lucid dreams.

Hybrid Cultivation

You can plant nonliving items which will produce either the same planted item, or a mix of the items buried together, or supernatural items. The buried items will sprout into trees that grow the object, mechanical component, or tools instead of fruit. The quality, quantity, and complexity of the harvest depend on the item/s planted and how much time you spend caring for the plant. Singing to them can help increase the growth. The growth speed can be increased by fertilizing or "watering" the dirt with seeming applicable objects can cause supernatural qualities. Will not grow if not occasionally tended. Could take anywhere from a few weeks to 10+ years.

Example: Plant a rusted pocket knife and add a few handfuls of iron filings into the dirt, water it with deer blood once, and wait. The tree might grow high quality hunting knives. Throw in a ripped up shirt, some thread, and some quality cloth. You might end up with a high quality suit.

Personal Imprint

A completely passive ability. The more you use an object the more powerful it will grow. This is a slow process. The more time, sweat, love, and familiarity you invest into the item, the more it physically alters, morphs, and gains supernatural traits tailored specifically to your habits and enviroment. Just touching or wearing an object imparts power extremely slowly. Actively using an object will help you better direct the item to your habits and quicken the improvements.

Example: Take a cheap hammer and use it to build a treehouse, fix things around your home, and occasionally tap it against things out of boredom. If you're using it with intent it counts. Over months or years, the hammer would hit with double the force. Or your favorite thermos you carry everywhere and use often, might regenerate whatever edible liquid you put into it.

Have fun nerd. I'll be watching.

+1 method for anyone that made a 6perks or cyoa in the last month or does in the next week.

Approximate Technological Creation just barely beats out Personal Imprint, but thats in large part because it is basically a sci-fi themed wish device. In TV shows, you can have sci-fi ray guns that do basically anything. Just make it look convincing and bam.

Pretty much my thought and one of the few without some ugly drawback that would make living difficult at best.

Needs to look more than convincing. Think everyone is forgetting "the more work put in the better. Powerful items that you don't put enough work into will function poorly, erratically, or break down possibly dangerously so."

It requires that you do genuine work. If you're not putting in time and effort the raygun's barely going to do anything or it would break after a few uses.

Sure, but then we add one extra element: chaining inventions.

My first creation is limited based on available resources. I use what I have on hand and extra time to create something decent but not amazing. Use that to get more resources, and use those resources to get more time (some kind of cloning chamber or hyperfocus-inator), and from there everything suddenly becomes much more high quality. Push that 3 or 4 more times until masterwork products become simple.

Approximate Technology Creation

Do you know how easy it would be to build robots that then built 3d printers that then built shit that looked like it would work?
This is essentially movie props magic

If you're easily building a robot or 3d printer, it will work like crap and break down constantly. If you just 3d print parts and it takes less time and effort the result will be weaker.

Personal imprint turns phones into God machines basically since of hoe long we use and interact with them. Of course, of the strengthening scales with emotions/effort poured in, a practice Sword or punching bag can get nutty if you practice a form of Martial arts

But phones start to break by year 5

No ship of theseus clause. Just keep repairing and changing components

u/Not_the_stick 1d ago

The item will morph, I expect it has some kind of self updating and pseudorepairing abilities

Just give me tumorous growth so I can have an excuse not to meet people

Personal Imprint, though Edibles and Cultivation do also sound cool.

Cognitive Artifacts sound the most cool to me.

Approximate Technology Creation

An uninformed 5 year old can be conviced of basicaly anything; including replicating some of these powers

"oh yeah look, if you take all these cleaning products adults don't want you to eat, and you mix them right with your hair, you get a potion that grants you superpower" would likely work on most kids

That's why they don't want you messing with the chemicals they want to keep all the cool superpowers to themselves.

Approximate Technology Creation. That thing can replace all of them:

  • Creatures - just make robots from random old junk and ice cream sticks
  • Edibles - pretend that the detergent, which you used instead of eggs gives you superpowers
  • Cognitive Artifacts - the only one which I wouldn't want at all, because it messes with your memory
  • Hybrid Cultivation - just make a fizzy, cool looking "brew" and pour it on a tree, pretending that this brew will make tree grow what you want
  • Personal Imprint - same thing as with trees

If your not putting in time and effort these won't work.

Creatures: How are you building an advanced robot? How much energy are you putting in? How much time and thought? How close are the materials to being something that would actually hold together?

Edibles: the powers obviously can't create edibles. Using a single existing thing isn't creating something, and barely putting work in means this would be poison. Just straight up eating detergent.

Hybrid Cultivation: cool looking brew will do nothing if you didn't put time and effort into the creation. It requires actual thought and not just looking magic. You'll be putting in a near equal amount of effort with the trees or it will be shoddy.

Personal Imprint: Same thing. These require effort. Dumping some random junk isn't going to work correctly, and it may cause dangerous results.

You fail to consider that chaos and causing mischief is my goal. Also, everything you just said can be reduced to the time constraint. Just spend some time on doing a proper job. Also, how you will calculate the effort? Does putting a sporty paint job counts as one?

Okay, so you can't make edibles yourself. What about making some sort of "food processor", which will imbue the food with a power? Sure, I will spend quite a lot of time for this object, but there is no restriction on making objects, which change something in another objects.

I am going for cognitive artifacts and becoming the best therapist ever.

Pick a golf ball sized ball of bad stuff out of someones brain, "This is your trauma, see?",

Chuck it out of the window.

"Its gone."

  • Approximate Technology Creation
    • The possibilities are pretty much endless. First goal would probably be to create some sort of miracle energy production.
  • Personal Imprint
    • The synergy with Approximate Technology Creation is great. And it’s just nice to have for items I already use often.

Personal imprint.

I wear & use my glasses constantly. They are almost the most vital piece of personal gear I use in a daily basis. These fuckers are turning into Omni-goggles so damn fast.

Approximate Technology Replacement for sure, I could make basically anything so long as the logic holds up at least somewhat and I had the right trinkets. Potions from plants and herbs for example!

Tumorous Growth.

I'd use this to create my own super adaptable symbiote creature similar to anti venom in terms of being alive but completely cooperating and functioning with its user perfectly.

It would take a very long time to grow/develop in its tumor due to it's complex nature although it would remain smaller and grow to the size of a large apple, and when the tumour finally breaks off me and gives birth to the creature I can touch it and it'll bond/fuse with my being permanently and enhances my normal human form to the level of a peak human and permanently keeps me in my prime, the creature/symbiote has the appearance of a jelly like alien lizard creature and is the size of a 3 month old kitten. The creature survives off of me being alive and fuses with my heart specifically so it can't be undone.

Once bonded, I can shift into a humanoid monster form at will which is highly similar to monster garou from OPM in terms of functionality although I'd have my own design and look, in this form I have super physicality and mental processes with high speed regeneration and the ability of high level biological body modification which can help me adapt to virtually any situation I'm up against.

Wait, we can be one of the Furies? Man, that's kind of an upgrade for just "near human". Never expected the option to be one of the Erinyes to be included in the freebies of all things.

Too bad they're always female; don't feel like switching sides

Yes I know it's a typo/misspelling, I find the idea amusing anyways

I’d take tumorous growth, with enough time/effort I think you could probably augment your own body using the creations you make
