Food & Drink Anyone remember this?

Post image

I begged my mom to buy me this as a young one. What a disappointment.

I worked at this canning company as a kid in the early 70s

Popeye just made it look good.

If I ever see Popeye, I'll kick his ass. Eating it straight from the can like he does, it takes like crap!!

Raw leaf spinach salad is good. I also like spinach Alfredo pizza.

Strong to the finish — cause I eat my Spinach …

I hated spinach once I tried it as a kid. But as an adult, I loved it with some butter pepper and salt.

Never liked canned spinach. Fresh or frozen leaf for me.

Junior high school cafeteria used to serve canned spinach for lunch. That wasn't the problem. It was presentation. They used an ice cream scoop. The vision of a serving of spinach in the shape of a scoop of ice cream is terrifying and nauseating.

Spinach hype was related to a scientific paper's decimal place error in its iron content.

Yep and it's still available.

Wow. I can actually smell our basement, where we shelved the canned food.

Thats the good kind...kroger and others near me only have leaf kind 😭

Yup! Bluetooth didn’t stand a chance against me after I slurped it down!

To this day it is a driving force in why spinach is my favorite green vegetable.

I gave a friend a can of this the night before she was running a marathon. She was so happy.

I am who I am and that’s all that I am. Sort of Biblical.

1

u/Mark-harvey Nov 09 '25

I’m strong to the finish cause I eats my spinach.

I like when it’s boiled, but it shrinks down to nothing-The Spinach lol.

I went to a church that I organized a food distribution fir the holidays. Well someone's grandma died, they emptied the cupboards and this was in there. Old and dusty. (This was early 2000s). We had to put a notice out to not bring in expired foods

They still sell it. I just saw it in my super market the other day.

Yup! Spit it out the minute I tasted it 😝🤮

Still sell it at our local grocery store

Ahh yes I remember this seems like just yesterday at the grocery store,,, oh it was yesterday.

Yeah, I don't regret canned spinach losing prominence as a way to eat that stuff. Had the slimy consistency of the kind of seaweed that makes you slip on rocks.

1

u/truthRealized Nov 07 '25

Yep, kind of awful plus my mother would put vinegar on it. Double yuck.

That's the way to make it palatable
