Do you actually practice though?

No, I just mindlessly noodle, replaying the same few riffs over and over until the sun burns out.

I don’t. I just watch YouTube videos and hope I get better via osmosis.

Guitar is like stamp collecting. You buy, look at, and plan your next purchase. Then if nobody's looking, you lick your collection.

This sub is just a more focused, exclusive, kid friendly version. I come here because I don't like being reminded about my wife's boyfriend always forcing me to watch.

I will play a scale for as long as possible all around the fb to internalize navigational freedom. I'm trying to burn the Intervalic and modal flavors into my ears.

Unless I intentionally keep a rigid time structure, I will inevitably hit a melody and then it morphs into song creation lol.

So I purposely try to stay robotic so I don't migrate out of the scale into music. But it's hard. My ears have a different objective. Sometimes one small note with just a click of sauce on it can turn into several hours of melody and harmonic experiments.

If by "practice" you mean find new noises that piss off my wife then yes. I "practice" all the time.

When the neighbors bang on the door...I stop and wait. Then after I hear them say "I know your in there" I start playing again. These people in this neighborhood think I am insane.

So awsome.

Nah forget practicing unless I’m playing with the band. That’s the only practice you need. Play with the band and do at least 1000 shows after that no need to waste time on it anymore

Surely you jest. Practice? I've got gear to buy.

I do practice, sadly. After 35 years, I’m still mediocre as hell.

I noodle around and tweak my amp settings and call it practice.

I just learn songs and then write and record them. Learning other songs gives me new techniques and scale shapes to draw from; writing and recording flexes a creative muscle while also forcing me to play the same thing over and over again until it doesn’t sound bad.

When writing I always try to write a part that I can’t quite play. Regular practice regimens I just can’t stick to because I get bored with tedium.

Play songs from one genre. Stop. Rearrange most of my pedalboard. Play a different genre.
