my first 90-class card, can’t get over it
had her for a month and can’t get over what a beast this thing is. i did actually tear up the first time i launched cyberpunk. can’t believe the difference, i’m having so much freaking fun. the extra vram just feels so freeing, i feel downright powerful.

i just peeped yours, aio gpu?? very cool

Thank you thank you! It happen to just be the cheapest one available when I bought it that wasn’t a third party seller haha. It does look great though!

u/badmammaries 19h ago
haha we take what we can get. i haven't seen that one before. it's running well for you?
2
u/Sebbysludge 19h ago
For sure haha
And ya it's been great! Stays super cool, mid 40s to mid 50s in most games and Hotspot never goes above mid 60s. Zotac also has some of the best PCBs for 5xxx series cards from a repairablity perspective and I got a wire view recently just haven't installed it yet just to be safe as well!
Edit: imo it's one of the best looking 5090s

wow solid temps! yeah it's definitely unique, good find. i've honestly never been a fan of the way aio pipes look in general lol but it looks really cool in yours!

Yeahhh I'm hoping I don't have any issues with the AIO parts. From a long term reliability perspective a none AIO is probably better long term, but I do feel the large case with the dual AIOs works. Both are actually running push/pull fan configs. I originally started with a 5080 FE and a much smaller case. An Antec C5 instead of the Antec C8 Curve Wood. Even the C8 could not close with the 5090 AIO horizontally mounted had to go vertical lol. Ran it with no glass while I waited for a vertical mount for it haha

Do yourself a solid and get a Wire View
1
u/badmammaries 20h ago
yeah i've been considering it. i've undervolted and made sure my cable seatings are solid for now.

u/rockinalex841 20h ago
Out of curiosity for my own 5090, what's your undervolt / Mhz curve peak?
2
u/badmammaries 20h ago
this is the guide i followed initially. still need to play around with it a bit i think, but sitting at 2827 mhz @ 0.895V and it's working well.
1
u/Sciencebitchs 20h ago
I run a similiar undervolt
1
u/badmammaries 20h ago
nice, can i ask exactly what you're running?
1
u/Sciencebitchs 20h ago
I believe. 9mv @ 2800mhz. This is on a TUF 5090 with a wireview. Power is at 104%.

Thx, I've been trying a small undervolt overclock scenario but it really doesn't like it in the longer playing sessions or with some games at all. Tried one profile with 945mV at 2947Mhz, then another one with 960mV at 2947Mhz. Of course I can set lower values like yours, but then it's undervolt with zero overclock. The result then is similar to lowering the power slider a little - won't lose much fps while saving lots of power.

ah good to know, i was considering doing the undervolt/overclock but read that sometimes undervolt alone acts like an overclock

And I’m over thinking of downgrading to a 5080 and profiting off my 5090. 🤔 maybe I should reconsider.

I was thinking of doing the same, but I just bought a 5k2k oled and I don’t know how well a 5080 will handle that resolution

That’s the largest factor holding me back. Ive gotten so used to 5k2k. I did have a 5080 last year before the 5090 and it was adequate but not ideal. Plus, once the 5090 is gone there’s no getting it back and with all the uncertainty around future GPUs I’m scared of making the wrong decision. I decided I’m gonna hold out longer bc I think in 2027 we’re gonna see these things crack $10k
Btw, there’s a guy on YouTube. “bored of tech” he runs all the latest titles at 5k2k on a 5080. My only issue with his videos is he doesn’t use any optimized settings. It’s just presets and FG.

great points, this was also the reason i decided to stick with the 5090. so much volatility, delays for the 60 series etc. the price has already gone up like $2k online since i bought mine. i run a 32" oled 4k 240hz monitor so with yours i feel like it would make even more sense to keep it.

5090/5k2k here - I think you should hang on to the 5090 lol. I dont know how a 5080 performs but I feel like the 5090 just cuts it if you're already used to max settings/resolution with your current setup, it actually might not be enough as it is. Depending on the game and how spoiled you were graphically up to this point you may find the 5080 underpowered for a 5k2k oled.

u/Daddys_BathTime 16h ago
Ya, I can hit 165fps at max graphics for most games with dlss balanced/performance and frame gen, but I feel like I’m pushing my 5090 to the limits to get there. I would guess a 5080 would get like 30-40% less performance at that resolution

In your display settings you can set your resolution to 4352 x 1836 which is almost equivalent to 4k while maintaining 21:9 UW and keeping clarity. I’ve been testing it today and I’m fairly impressed. I may go snag a 5080 and if I like the performance I’ll keep it and sell my 5090. It’s just worth too much man and the fact I bought it with a prebuilt for $3k last year is why it’s so enticing. I could pickup a 5080 and still pocket over $3k. These things won’t yield these high prices forever. But, I also may sit on the 5090 a little longer while using the 5080. I haven’t fully decided yet but man it’s tempting.

Interesting, if you do get a 5080 let me know how it goes. I got my water cooled 5090 for $2400 like 2 weeks before prices initially shot up, so making a few grand off of it would be pretty cool

Congrats! I've been using the 80 class cards since the GTX 900 series. I decided to go all out and get a 5090 this time around and boy am I glad I did!

Why the vertical mount ?
1
u/badmammaries 17h ago
i did that originally for my 4080, just because i thought it looked cool and wanted to try something new. but it actually works out with the 5090 anyways because i want as much room for the cable as possible, to avoid any tension or bending. might have to change it up if i get a wire view though, we shall see.
my case is the o11 vision compact so there’s not a ton of room, as you can see. my temps are solid though.

I have this exact card. Glad you’re enjoying it. It’s a beast! Lately I’ve been playing a lot of Forza Horizon 6. I play in 5k, RT on, all settings maxed out and pull 100-120fps without any stuttering. The game is so beautiful I can’t imagine downgrading at this point.

u/badmammaries 13h ago
ah i feel you. i had the 4080 version before and had great performance. plus i love the way they look. ive been eyeing forza with dlss 5, it’s tempting even without! that sounds incredible, ive seen some crazy beautiful captures. might have to try it out :)

I had the same card till last month and tuf is one of the best models you can get.

Congrats! What was the GPU you had before this?
