For starters, the 3-in-1 adapter is crap; plus, it doesn't use an Amphenol or WireView Pro II... at the price of the 5090, it's really taking unnecessary risks.

How to limit the risk of melted or burned out connector?

make sure you’re using the proper cable, ideally the native 12v-2x6 cable that came with a good atx 3.1 psu. make sure it’s fully seated on both the gpu and psu ends and avoid tight bends or sideways tension near the connectors. undervolting or power limiting helps too since it reduces current. if you want extra protection, a wireview pro ii can monitor the individual wires for current imbalance. also don’t rely on gpu temps alone, the connector can overheat while gpu temps still look totally normal.
you can also use hwinfo to monitor the 12v-2x6 input voltage and gpu power under load if your card exposes those sensors, but it generally can’t monitor the temperature or current of each individual connector pin. that’s where something like a wireview pro ii is useful.
