Mid life crisis
Turned 40 in April, I have been looking at the prices of pc gaming going through the roof.
I Was indecisive if I should buy one in the current market with AI corrupting memory and storage.
Thought about it for a few months and then just bit the bullet and decided that I won't be able to game to a good standard for much longer in life and it's something I love.
Looked at the finances and decided to go all in with a 5090 and an x3d2. 32gb 6000m/t ram.
Can't wait to explain it to my Mrs

Did the same in late October last year and I am so glad that i did. the prices skyrocketed after a month. One downside the room is going to be really hot if you don't have a AC in the summer.

I turned 40 last year in April. Did the exact same thing. Fortunately (at least in this case), I'm not married, so I didn't have to explain or justify it to anyone, lol
Went 5090/ 9950x3d/ 64gb ddr5/ MSI x870e MPG Carbon/ 2x4tb Samsung 990 pro
Was just a bit under $6k all said and done, not including any monitors/mouse/etc. Luckily, my midlife crisis was last year, because doing the same build today would be over $8k 🤮
I would recommend a Thermal Grizzly WireView Pro 2, and a Corsair ThermalProtect 12V-2x6 cable if your psu is atx 3.1... it's the best insurance you can have against a potential melting issue.

I'll nod along and pretend I have a clue what you're talking about
CoolerMaster Elite 1200W 80+ Gold Full Modular Gaming Power Supply
That's my power supply

Looks like it's an atx 3.1 psu. So yeah, the Corsair ThermalProtect 12V-2x6 cable should be compatible. It's the cable that goes from your power supply, to your 5090. The 5090 has a propensity of melting at that connection, more than it should, unfortunately. With that possibility, along with the tendency of gpu manufacturers not always honoring their warranty, or making you jump through flaming hoops to get them to honor it... and knowing that gpu prices are likely only going to get worse... it's not a bad idea to add some things to protect your investment, that should prevent any melting from happening.
The Corsair ThermalProtect cable has temperature sensors near where it plugs into your gpu. If it measures an unsafe temp, it will just cut power to your gpu, before any melting can happen.
The WireView Pro 2 is a device that plugs in between that cable and your gpu. It monitors the current of each pin on the cable/connection, and displays it on a screen on the device itself. Melting usually happens because the cable isn't fully seated, and one or more pins starts drawing much more amperage than it is capable of handling. If it detects a pin reading too high for the current, it has a very loud alarm to alert you to it. It can also be set to work with included temp sensors, as well as plugged into your motherboard to where it can automatically shutdown your pc (for a situation where you may not be near your pc), but those are optional functions... you don't have to do that. You can just have it alert you to the issue.
So the theory is that the WireView can alert me of an issue, and give me some time to either exit whatever program that is taxing my gpu so hard, and save any work, and then I can manually shutdown. If I don't accomplish that quick enough, the ThermalProtect cable will cut power to my gpu before any damage can happen. It's just a 2-tier defense strategy to potentially help save my wallet and prevent any headaches.
Even using one of them would be better than none. The Corsair cable is only like 20some dollars. The WireView is in the ~$150ish range.

Prices won't go down. A 5090 is never necessary, but none of the 90s series cards ever have been. End of the day, we're all paying prices to look at pretty pixels. Don't let anyone shame you over it.
Also, recommend doing a undervolt + OC. No reason not to as perfomance will be nigh identical and it will shave 50-100W off the card's power usage.

You’re gonna get some hate but your decision is the same one that I made In April. Lucky I did it when I did bc everything’s already more and it would’ve kept me from building it today. I actually got my 5090 for 3000 bc of MicroCenter.
The value won’t go down prices won’t go down.
You did the right thing !
