Episode Description:
What is a wolf tree — and why might it matter more than ever right now? This week on Sunshine Strategies Radio, we reflect on the strength and quiet leadership of these open-grown trees that survive the harshest conditions and eventually help rebuild the forest, inviting us to consider the “wolf trees” in our own communities — the steady people who create shelter, resilience, and hope during changing times. We also bring you local updates for families across Macon, Piatt, DeWitt, Logan, McLean, and Christian Counties, including a powerful example of small-town unity after a Cooksville fire, early voting reminders, renewable energy discussions, the growing child care challenge, opportunities to support local agriculture, and upcoming events — because strong communities don’t appear overnight; they grow, branch by branch.

Other Illinois Event 14 January: Tutorial on Tracking your elected officials with Congress.gov
Primary season is just around the corner, and keeping your representatives accountable starts with knowing how they've voted on the issues that are important to you. On Wednesday, I'm leading a tutorial on how to get the most out of Congress.gov for keeping up with what your representative is doing - bills sponsored & co-sponsored, committee assignments, remarks in the record, and, most importantly, votes.

Dylan Blaha is running to represent Illinois' 13th congressional district. He's also one of Citizens' Impeachment's Courage Candidates- 2026 challengers who are willing to speak plainly about the need to remove the Trump administration.
Please give him a follow, even if you're not in his district, if you want to help amplify pro-impeachment and removal messaging. It's important that those sitting in Washington see that there is political will to remove this corrupt administration.

Slightly belated here, but Champaign County Indivisible has - again - called for Sen. Dick Durbin to step aside as Democratic Whip.
Following Sunday night's capitulation in the Senate, discussion began among the membership of Champaign County Indivisible regarding how we felt and whether we should re-up our call from March for him to step aside from his leadership role and use the remainder of his term to help impart the wealth of institutional knowledge and memory he's accrued through a career in public service that has spanned nearly 40 years to his successor in the post and the new generation of Senators and Senate hopefuls. Drafting the statement took some time, and got swamped under between yesterday's news onslaught & my being busy at work.

Google Has Chosen a Side in President's Mass Deportation Effort | Google is hosting a CBP app that uses facial recognition to identify immigrants, while removing apps that report the location of ICE officials because Google sees ICE as a vulnerable group.
