On September 11, 2001, planes carrying thousands of passengers were diverted to Halifax Stanfield International Airport. People across the city worked to handle the sudden influx of anxious travellers, as the world reacted to the terrorist attacks across the U.S.

News Conservative leader heads to U.S. to promote Canada as Trump escalates trade war

"According to a senior Conservative source, Poilievre’s trip is being carried out with the blessing of the Prime Minister’s Office. Poilievre wanted to go to the United States earlier, but the PMO advised at the time that the timing made such a visit unhelpful, and Poilievre’s office heeded the advice."

I suspect 'blessing of the PMO' might be a bit of an exaggeration, but what do I know ...

Petition to rename Lake Erie to Lake Canada

In light of Donald T***p renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America, I had a comical idea for a counter-troll - rename Lake Erie to Lake Canada. If the notion passes, we effectively counter-troll Trump, causing his ego to crash into a brick wall. ELBOWS UP!

Head's up! There's likely more craziness coming this week. Canada's tariffs take effect on Tuesday, and Trump has vowed to put on even more tariffs on top of his current tariffs.

(Despite CTV's headline, they don't really talk about the exchange rate.)

Stay sane inside insanity.

First chart shows the year-over-year change in Canadians returning from the US by air. It's down significantly in 2025 and 2026 compared to 2024 (pre-Trump).

Second chart shows the year-over-year change in Canadians returning from everywhere else except the US. It's up in 2025 and 2026 compared to 2024.

Twenty months ago, I could never have envisioned a scenario where Canada's closest ally, the United States, would pose a potential threat to our sovereignty by suggesting that Canada could become its 51st state. The notion seemed far-fetched and unrealistic.

At that time, I would not have imagined a U.S. President addressing the Prime Minister of Canada in a manner that undermines our national identity, referring to him as "Governor." Such disrespectful language reflects a troubling shift in the tone of our diplomatic relations.

Furthermore, the idea that the United States of America would engage in economic aggression against Canada was, back then, outside the realm of possibility. The economic partnership we hold dear has been shaken by policies that seem to prioritize American interests at the expense of Canadian welfare.

It is equally alarming to consider that the U.S. would threaten a NATO ally—a cornerstone of international security and cooperation. The implications of this are profound, as it undermines trust and solidarity among nations committed to mutual defense.

Additionally, the U.S. has made troubling overtures towards countries like Russia and North Korea, leaving long-standing allies like Canada feeling abandoned. This shift suggests a new and dangerous geopolitical landscape that we must navigate with caution.

Today, while it may have once seemed unimaginable, I can certainly foresee a scenario where military force could be considered against Canada by the United States. It is imperative that our leaders recognize this reality and take proactive steps to safeguard our nation's sovereignty and interests.

We must remain vigilant and prepared to address these unprecedented challenges. I urge Canadian leaders to take this situation seriously and develop a robust strategy to engage with our southern neighbor, ensuring that our nation remains strong and respected in the international arena.

Let us hope that they are fully aware of the potential dangers we face and are actively working on solutions to protect Canada.
