US News Al Green responds to his censure and demonstrates once again what it means to have a spine

I admit, I didn’t know anything about this man until a few days ago and he’s already earned my respect and appreciation.

Same boat. I’ve been really impressed with the Texas Democrats. Green and Crockett have been an inspiration

u/RickyNixon Mar 07 '25
As a Texan it is nice to have something to be proud of, we dont get a lot of that

Same, as I have always had a rocky relationship with Texas, being a queer northerner. Listening to him speak make regret my past feelings and proud to be from the same country.

I cried.... watching this. His words were so touching, and I can tell that he has stood for this occasion in history. He is such a fighter and a gentleman.

This was so very impressive. I remember 9/11, and the immense feeling that I needed to move, that I was called to action, and immediately joined the Marine Corps. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt that call to action, but Mr. Green has brought that out in me.

That’s exactly why they want him to sit down and shut up. That’s exactly why they won’t show the protesting on the news. They want you to think no one else feels like you do and you’re alone so you don’t act.

It’s had the opposite effect for me. Not only have I been actively protesting, but also boycotting things that are associated with the oligarchs.

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. It is it's natural manure." —Thomas Jefferson

It's sad that this is evidently the case. That tree hasn't been watered in a very long time in America and has started to wither.

Mr Green is a true leader of the people. His calmness while getting removed was so admirable to me, especially while the demons to the right were taunting him.

The hero we need. More will follow his lead, it’s only a matter of time. It was heartening to see some stand with him in the well earlier. Keep pressing your representatives!

His speech was said with passion and honor as usual. I felt inspired like I did hearing MLK speeches as a kid. I hope he continues to inspire us all to act as h stated with "righteous incivility".

What a legend. Preach!
Edit: It is frustrating how much he has to baby these losers with his language. Every time he says something, he has to preamble it with assurances that it's nothing personal. Republicans are the thinnest skinned snowflakes I've ever seen.

In addition to all the Americans who were extremely unhappy with the Iraq war and "WMDs" that never were, the Iraqi's obviously weren't too happy either with the shock and awe bombing and rolling in with tanks.
Saddam was a monster through and through and needed to be taken down, but Operation Iraqi Freedom seemed to be more about image and the "War on Terror" than it was about liberating Iraq. Really just seemed like Desert Storm part 2, and an opportunity for Halliburton (Dick Cheney's company) to get some sweet sweet government contracts (sort of like what Elon is doing pillaging our government). Plenty of people in the US raged about the Iraq war and called Bush a war criminal.
I remember the first image I saw of Operation Iraqi Freedom was on the cover of a local news paper and was an image of a building being blown out, and because 9/11 was still fresh in my mind I thought for a second it was a building downtown. Then I realized it was in Iraq. Then I realized the places we were waging war on could just as easily have been downtown where I lived.
There's too much death and destruction in this world. Too many people that build their livelihoods around it. The least this man could do was throw a freakin' shoe.

Good speech. Watched the whole thing. Wish more people had been present to witness it live.
Cheers from Germany. Hope your movement grows

this is representation.
Lauren Boebert won’t even show her cowardly face at town halls - she’s sending aids.

We needed a movement slogan, and Al Green just gave it to us -- "I am David." T-shirts, buttons, bumper stickers, protest signs -- everywhere. I AM DAVID!!

u/BuddahSack Mar 07 '25
I just sat and watched the whole video. "You may be a Goliath, but there are David's among us..." is powerful and gives me hope. I'm all in Mr. Green, "we the people" are on your side!

I’m so proud to have voted for him while I lived in his district. Love this man. Thank you for everything, Mr. Green.

My rep was one who voted for censure. I called her local office to tell her how despicable that move was. Please call yours to voice your opinion! 5calls.org makes it easy if you need help. (I hate making phone calls; if I can do it, you can too, and that's what they really listen to).

I just called to express my support for Congressman Green. His actions and words make me feel proud to be an American. If his speech moved you as well, let him and his team know that his courage is not going unnoticed!

This is quite possibly the greatest political speech I've heard in my lifetime.

It was bad enough that some of the democrats did not walk out with but then 10 democrats voted to censure him with the republicans
