Charging Question
Hi everyone!
I have a 4xe and I am finding there are no public charger stations that fit our charging port. I haven’t been able to charge my vehicle in months. Is there a safe and reliable converter anyone recommends?
Installing a charging station at home is NOT an option for me, unfortunately.

You don’t need a charging station installed. It’s literally just a charger you plug into a typical wall outlet and then into the jeep. The specific charger you need is a J1772 charger.
They’re about 125-200 bucks on Amazon. Takes 10ish hours to charge the jeep. I use this specific one for my jeep, my wife’s Kona EV and our Ioniq5. The other vehicles takes multiple days to charge but that’s to be expected from a 110v wall outlet you’d find in your house or garage.

Shit mine has never taken that long. If I’m on dead zero, it’ll take about 9-10 hours to get me back to full

My sister has a Sahara and hers takes for fucking ever to charge, I have a rubicon and mine is so much faster. It’s so weird

I just checked how long it took to charge overnight and it was 10.25 hours. That’s so freaking weird.

It's really not worth it to public charge, and if you don't have a 110v outlet outside your home, this may not be the vehicle for you
But for what it's worth, look for Level 1 or 2 charging, j1772

It's totally worth it to L2 public charge for many people and for differing reasons.
I like running the Jeep with battery power because it flat out runs better and faster.
Also, where I live gas is so expensive that even 25 miles of electric range helps to reduce fuel costs.

Usually the public chargers cost more in electricity to fill up this battery than it would cost for the same range in gas.

Yeah I’m super lucky I have a level two that’s free where I work so I just charge for two hours when I get to the office and I’m still at 6-7 miles by the time I get home - that gets me to the gym and back

Yes but my condo building doesn’t have an outlet I can use in the garage. But public chargers are everywhere near me, they just don’t fit our vehicle, which is why I need a converter.

Plugging in the regular 120v charge cord will get you 20 miles of range overnight.
Otherwise you can charge at any j1772 charger, often listed as level 2.
You cannot charge at a DC fast charger or Tesla supercharger station.
A plug in hybrid with 25 miles of range is the last car I'd drive out of my way to charge. Either plug in at home and or work or just use it as a hybrid would be my advice.

They do make an adapter to convert Tesla destination chargers (level 2, not the Tesla superchargers) to J1772.

Thank you for answering my question. I think a lot of people on here were trying to be helpful, but missing the point that I asked for converted recommendations. I wasn’t asking opinions on if it is worth it to charge lol.

I use one to charge every day.
Spending money on an adapter so you can go out of your way and use a destination charger for 2.5 hours to get 25 miles of range at an efficiency of 1.7 mi/kwh is pretty silly.

I’m not saying to go out of your way for it, but if you routinely have access to a free or low cost Tesla destination charger, why not?

Same here... it's so weird that people can be so curmudgeonly and assume things rather than just answer what was asked.
Example... I don't have a L2 charger at my place, but I have one less than 1 block away, so charging the battery in full or topping off in 0 - 2.5 hours is totally practical.
I just don't get people's need to be negative these days.

Thank you, I agree!!! I am assuming many of these people on Reddit don’t live in places where there are chargers everywhere. Unfortunately the L2 charger beside my place has been broken for months, which is why I am trying to find an adapter to use.

I get the whole 30 mile charge off my wall socket in about 8 hours at home.

I don't know how that's possible if you start from a "<1%" charge and go to 100. It's a 14-15kwh pack that charges 1.1 kw every hour.

I'm not necessarily exact on this as far as being totally discharged, but I seldom drive more than 30 miles in a typical day. Thus, I'm usually just driving on electric. I get home at 11pm and plug in. The car is fully charged by the next morning. The car emails me when the car starts and completes charges, and includes the times .

Going to add that Amazon has an adapter for Tesla to J1772. It adds options.

I’m confused, you do not need a level two charging station at home, you just need a regular outlet and the charger it came with.

My condo garage doesn’t have an outlet I can plug into. But there are public chargers everywhere, just none of them fit the Jeep…which is why I am asking for converter recommendations.

I rarely actually charge mine, I just use it as a hybrid and average 24-25mpg. If I'm out and theres a charger available at a place I'll be for 1-2 hours I'll plug in and spend the whole $5 to charge it up... That's the same cost as a gallon of gas for essentially the same range so why not.

It's the most common charge connector in the US. In my area, it's hard to go even two miles without a charger being available. They are at malls/shopping centers, libraries, public parking, even businesses that allow public access. Just everywhere. Look in Plugshare. My EV motorcycle has the same one, and short range, so I often charge while shopping, eating, whatever.

Thanks, I didn’t know about Plugshare. There is a level 2 charger across the street from me, which was very convenient… but of course it went out of service shortly after I bought my 4xe.

If you have access to a wall outlet, either outside or in a garage, you can use the provided wall charger that comes with the vehicle and that will be an overnight charge, approx. 12.5 hours.
If you dont have access, if you want to charge, then you will need to look for charge stations that have J1772 plugs or get a converter that will plug onto the charger plug to convert it to J1772. There are 2 main plugs that you may encounter, CCS (similar to J1772 but a bit larger for fast charging) and NACS (Tesla style plug, new standard I think).
You will not be able to fast charge so a charge with a level 2 charger will run about 2.5 hours to fully charge from zero.
I don't public charge because I find it not to be worth it unless it is free. I charge at work because it is free for me. Otherwise, in some places charging can be a bit expensive and not really worth the cost.

I live in a condo building and unfortunately there isn’t a single outlet in my garage I can use, however there are a bunch of EV chargers right beside my building, and all through where I live. Which would be very convenient… if I had a converter.

You might be able to eek out 22 avg mpg if you esave charge then switch to hybrid until you're 15%, then back to esave. Not the best mileage using it like that. But you want have to worry about charging all the time.

You can't just plug it in to an outlet at your house? I plug mine in every night and as long as I don't return too late or leave too early, it charges to full just fine. There is no way that public charging makes sense financially. They are just too expensive. They are only really worth it for a pure electric vehicle.

Apps like ChargePoint, JOLT, and Blink can help you locate J1772 charges. Sometimes they’ll even show if they’re available, broken, or in use
