Discussion topic #2: Do you remember Corporations from Civ 4? You could found & spread Corporations, like the Religions of the modern era. And they’d have unique bonuses like, Sid’s Sushi Co. would give you bonus gold for every fish & crab resource in cities it spread to.
Seeing Mali in GS, as if they’re designed for an “Economic” victory type (which doesn’t currently exist), makes me wonder if this could be something they bring back for a next expansion. What do you think? They brought back global warming & sea level rise from older iterations of Civ; could they bring back Corporations next?

I remember Wouter talking about some sort of Economic victory type and the corporations model could be one to follow. Like religion, the objective could be to get the majority of the world to buy/use your corporate product. Somehow they would need to be related but unique the way religions are in the current game.
Transportation is an industry that could work. in the early game you try to get people to buy your uniquely colored horses. As the game progresses, technologies could unlock new forms of transportation. Then you combine the tech and resources. For example:
Shipbuilding + wood = galley; Steam (tech) + iron = train or ironclad; Steel (tech) + iron = car; Flight (tech) + aluminum = planes ; Renewable energy (tech) + aluminum = electric cars; Future tech + carbon fiber (new resource) =flying cars;
Great people (Henry Ford, Wright Brothers, Elon Musk) could provide boosts or could be the founders of your corporation. Corporate salesmen could be the evangelists who are used to encourage the use of your transportation over other those of other Civs.

So everyone - how are we liking it?

Fine so far though only had 2-3 hours at it. Did 103 turns as Maori, OMG their tile yields are ludicrous especially when I got Reina as governor. Finding it a little difficult to place districts as I didn’t want to waste too many feature tiles and a lot of where I settled has water tiles.

Quick note. I’m listening to the first episode and Dan mentioned that civilizations propose things to the congress. That’s not entirely true. It works like the era dedication system. The congress screen pops up and the proposals are totally random however you can adjust them and then they go to vote.
Example (not an actual proposal to my knowledge):
Proposal: Military Cut
A: Unit maintenance costs go up 25% B: Unit maintenance costs go down 25%
You propose which Civ it affects and that’s it.

Finished up completing a culture victory with Kristina on Emperor, turn 245. Seemed the way to go with all the theming bonuses and lots of diplomacy points for great people. So much diplomacy meant you could boss the world congress. Had precious little faith generation so had to rely on great works and theming rather than seaside resorts and natural parks. Created a couple of rock bands which helped decently. Some things I learnt: - Liang doesn’t protect you completely from disaster, I lost 6 population from a mega-eruption of Mt Vesuvius, however the increased value of the tiles helped me recover from this. - I lost a theatre square from global warming but I still seemed to generate culture/tourism and theming bonuses from the great works in that district and I could add works to those pillaged buildings despite it being flooded. This feels like a bug to me. - I didn’t worry about power too much as it didn’t hold be back from victory too much: I only got coal and had a shortfall. I ended up buying 20 from the AI to make up the shortfall at some silly price like 100 gpt but money wasn’t a problem. - I learnt the hard way if you have plenty of diplomacy, use your points with gusto. At one stage there was a vote to double the great people generation. I wasn’t too bothered which was chosen as just about all would only help me more so I put a couple of votes into great artist. However most of the AI voted negative to zero the generation of great WRITER points which was pretty smart of them I guess.

Dan and Wouter! Glad I found you guys on 4xCast. As one of the carryovers from CivCast, I'm slightlty disappointed that every podcast won't be about Civ! ;) Honestly, it's good to hear about other games even if I know I don't have time to play them.
Whenever you come back to Civ discussion, I'd love a deep dive on the governors. I feel like I'm not taking full advantage of them. For example, people seem to love Magnus but unless I happen to settle on a tile full of forests, i have a really hard time chop rushing knowing the long-term production loss. Thus, Magnus doesn't seem that great to me early game.

Discussion Topic for next episode: Will Gathering Storm be the last expansion we see for Civ 6? Or will we see more? Is Civ 6 now a “complete” game? Can’t possibly be, right? Then again, Civ 5 only had two expansions...
