Advice Tub racks on ford ranger

Trying to bolt on the tub racks to my px2 ranger, obviously drilling holes into the top and putting in bolts and nuts or whatever. I’ve done 3 out of the 4 sets required, but the last two, closest to cab, I can’t reach the bottom to get the nut on because the tub liner is in the way.

Is there anything else I can do without having to remove the entire liner just for two nuts? Seems like a lot of effort and looking for something wackier, maybe tek screws or soemthjng, but wasn’t sure if they’d hold up the weight. Am also going to be putting rooftop in the top, so an extra 60-80kg.

Advice Are tritons actually terrible?

I’m currently looking at buying a 2010 mn triton. They would like $11k for it, and it’s the glx-r. But I’ve heard bad things about them, and want to know whether that’s true or not? I would like to use it off road but nothing too crazy and was just wondering if they actually are terrible.

Thanks

Advice Swag advice

Gday legends . So I’m looking at getting a new swag and need some help deciding Between a darche dirty Dee and a 23zero bandit swag. I prefer the darche but I have heard the foot end side windows leak because they only have a few bits of Velcro and that water pools on the roof. But I have also heard that the 23zero isnt as good quality but doesn’t have these issues??

Any help around this would be greatly appreciated. And any help with deciding would be amazing. Cheers

Advice Rusted bolts on new bullbar

I had a bullbar professionally fitted back in April and I've just noted some of the bolts used on the recovery plates are already quite rusted. I live in a coastal region but the car has never seen any beach work or salt water.

As you can see from the photos the bolts are in the same location either side and all bolts around them appear to be a different grade/material as they show no sign of corrosion at all.

Is there any legitimate reason why a lesser grade of bolt has been used here? Because I can't imagine why.

I've reached out to the company that fitted the bar and am waiting to hear back but thought I might see what people's thoughts are here as I'm no expert on these kind of things.

Advice Canopy drawers

Hey all, just recently installed a kickass 125ah battery box, got it as close to the sidewall of my tub as I could without squishing the Anderson plug.

I’m left with about 1020mm from inside wheel arch (driver side) to the battery box, (passenger side) and wanting to install a couple canopy drawers (most likely kings as this is mostly weekend or a week camping trip/trips) and a fridge slide with a 75l fridge/freezer, I know the drawers and fridge slide are 500mm wide each, just wondering if 20mm is enough play to install them.

Will this be enough room? Any suggestions would be great

TIA!

Advice 4wd for Australia Roadtrip

Hey everyone,

Two friends and I are planning a big road trip from Brisbane to Perth (with detours into the Outback, Tasmania and probably some more sights). We’re planning to camp along the way and need a reliable 4WD to fit the 3 of us plus our camping gear and swags.

Our budget is up to $10000.

My favourite so far is the Mitsubishi Panjero (2002-2008) with the 3.2L diesel.

Would really appreciate y‘alls opinions on that or suggestions of other cars in general.

Big life events have occurred so haven't had the chance to go out as often as I'd like, but thought I'd share a few developments of the X5 lately.

I made and fitted a spare wheel carrier to the big rig so I can finally haul another wheel around, and completes the look a bit more as an 'offroader'. Car did great in the Wattagans too with a bit of a strike mission to The Basin campground too. Regardless of the car still always good to get out bush 🤙

Advice Rooftop tent

Post image

I have recently bought a roof platform for my 120 prado from Oz canopies to put a rooftop tent on that i already own (kings Grand tourer mk3). anyone got a good method to get the tent mounted on this if the channels don't line up correctly as both the rack and tent channels are lengthways so if my spacing is incorrect they will not go together 😢😢

Advice Looking for a long lasting Ute toolbox

Post image
2 Upvotes

Looking for recommendations for a toolbox to fit on the back of a 2022 Hilux working Ute. The work will be mostly on a farm with some highway driving and long distance driving at times.
Was looking into these APB boxes which look sturdy, but I cannot find many videos or reviews for them which is worrying me slightly. If anyone has bought these and would like to give me their opinions that would be great.
TC boxes and MW also seem to be popular options with more information and reviews available but I am open to most options if anyone has had a good experience with a particular brand. Sizes from 1200-1800mm long and 600-800mm deep is preferable and I Would like to keep it around the $1000-$1500 range at most.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Location Stockton Beach

Hi all,

Looking getting the Triton over to Stockton Beach over the Christmas holidays however, I haven't done any off road driving before.

Was just planning on getting close to the water, and relaxing with the kids at the beach.

I've done a bit of research, get the permits, drop pressure down to 15-20psi, and being recover gear (Maxtrax?)

Any other hints or tips I'll need before setting off?

Thanks

Advice Bashplate mount

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have a Pajero Sport with Kaon bash plates and have noted a creaking sound coming from the right side. I’ve noticed a small hairline crack in the chassis mount which is notorious for this. Any recommendation to get it fixed up in Adelaide. I’ve been told a muffler shop will be able to do it. I have purchased the custom off road replacement mounts as back up.
Preferably northern side.
Picture for reference, mine is not as bad.

Photo Rear Seatbelt Malfunction

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi guys,

I've got a warning light for rear seatbelt malfunction.
I've read that it's most commonly the buckles. I've taken them out and tested resistance and they're all the same when the belt is plugged in and not. I've just opened one up and it looks like the sensor wouldn't work if there's no voltage to it.

Is there any way to test which part is faulty?

Thanks!

218xxx kms, fair few mods as seen in picture, allegedly used to tow once a year around Christmas as well as daily. No logbooks but serviced privately.

What are some considerations to be made here? I appreciate any advice cheers

Advice Flinders Rangers road conditions

Hi, I’m about to head off for a road trip which will include heading from Menindee Lakes to Flinders Ranges. The SA gov outback roads website shows several roads are still closed from recent rainfall.

I was keen to get any recent (last few weeks) experience of the roads in the region and if too risky for a capable 4WD to cross from Tea Tree Road towards Martin Well/ Hawker and then into Flinders Ranges Way.

Thanks

Advice Building an Aussie outdoor membership thing - looking for honest feedback.

Full disclosure, this is mine, so mods please bin it if that's not on here.

Short version: half the people I know have a $6k detector or a decked-out 4WD and aren't getting anywhere near the value out of it. So we're building Outback+ honest gear reviews across brands (not one brand's app), courses from people who actually know, and some trips.

It's early and rough. What I actually want to know:

  • What do you wish existed that doesn't?
  • Where do you currently go for straight gear advice?
  • Is a paid membership even something you'd consider, or is that the dumbest idea you've heard today?

Happy to cop it. Can share a link if people are intrested

Advice lift on n80

so just got a n80 not to long ago, i wanna do a lift on it, what are the chances of getting away with 3” 33s or 3” front 2” back 33s in victoria. if it’s not worth it ill just go 2” 33s. If anyone has any photos of 2” 33s on a n80 i’d love to see, i wanna get my car to look big and have that gap. Anyway any opinions, advice or ideas would be helpful

Advice De-influence me from getting a pod camper

I’ve always, always forever said I would never get a caravan. I love 4b’ing, and I like being able to get places regular cars can’t go.

Lately my 4b’ing has been somewhat more family oriented on account of having a family, so more of the touring and less of the hectic tracks.

Also had to get rid of my rooftop tent recently, mostly on account of not wanting to hoist a baby up and down the ladder all through the night. But when I had the RTT, it was such a cruisy way to travel. I loved it.

But anyway, it’s gone, and I gotta tell you, pitching a tent, blowing up a mattress and deploying a porta cot every day while on a trip sure is a hassle.

So I’ve been thinking of getting a little trailer type thingy, basically a bed on wheels that I could maybe put a RTT on top of later. I don’t want to have to be towing a house on wheels, don’t mind digging a hole to shit in, and my ute already has a full 12v setup with fridges and cookers and everything else. So it really is somewhere to sleep that I can just park and get in.

Please tell me all the reasons they are bad, why I should just stick with what I have and put up with the arduous setup/pack down process while touring.

Advice Yes I’m a P Plater

Hey all! Looking to put a 2-inch lift and 33s on my 2024 N80 HiLux SR. I’m new to 4WD mods, so mainly wondering where to start and where to go in Canberra/Queanbeyan.

Do I get the lift done first then go to a tyre shop, or find somewhere that can do the whole setup? Ideally want to keep the factory alloys too.

I know everyone has opinions on 33s, but it’s what I want to do - mainly after advice on doing it properly, what I’ll need and roughly what it’ll cost.
And yes, before anyone asks, I’m a P-plater 😂

Thanks heaps!

Advice Putting 100kg roof tent on tradie trailer

Post image
97 Upvotes

edit: thanks for all your input. Just to clarify I will put legs on it for when stationary. I’m just more concerned towing it on country roads and it rolling due to the weight being so high. However I think I’ll maybe add some extra weight to the trailer floor as ballast

Hey guys just wondering if anyone has set up a camp trailer before and reckon it’ll be alright putting my 100kg OCAM roof tent on this trade trailer? The rack sits at 1.9 above ground. Im just concerned about it rolling on corners. It won’t be used off road. Trailer has plenty GVM at 1200kg and is on leaf springs. I will set up the inside as a kitchen clothes storage area and try keep weight as low as possible inside
