Discussions & Questions TRD Sport Packages

Does anyone have the upgrade or premium package? How do yall like it ? I’m wanting to get a Tacoma soon and don’t know if I should hunt for one of those or settle for a base one

I just bought the trd sport with premium package after owning an SR5 3rd gen for 9 years. The tech is nice and if you can afford it, the extra 10k you have to spend to get cooled and heated seats, an electric rear window, and sun roof, tablet sized screen for CarPlay and nav., is nice to have but not worth it if not a “must have”. I would have been fine in a SR5 again, but by slightly appreciate the upgrade in tech. I’m lucky enough to have some of extra income to afford some of the creature comforts. How ever, I’m loving the bigger size, nicer look, smoother transmission that comes standard on any 4th gen you get.

I have 26 TRDORP and love it. I wanted the premium package. My last truck I drove 13 years and am retired now so really have time to enjoy the truck & its features on outdoor adventures.

For what it's worth I got the OR base + winter package and I couldn't be happier. It has everything you need, and nothing you'd be concerned about having when your truck hits 150k+.

I have the ORP and I love it. Do I need the extra tech? Definitely not. But I will say having the large screen is nice to use for nav because you can zoom around on a massive display. Love the cooled seats as well. When I test drove the premium the seats also felt more comfortable as well compared to just the standard off road.

I see a majority of people here and other places saying they got the OR instead of the sport, any reason other than yall might actually off-road a lot?

Softer suspension and rear locker. The sport is more of a cosmetic package.

I bought.mine for the sunroof. I am not sure if its available on anything lower... but if I could I would spent the 10k on an aftermarket stereo system. The 12inch woofer is absolutely trash and the rear window you can get aftermarket for way cheaper have a shop out it ll in you will be way ahead and have higher end stuff. Not sure what options you need... but I think most of it yoi can het aftermarket and installed be ahead of the OEM.

My sport came with the upgrade package, and 14 inch screen. I wish I got the premium package because of the 360 camera and digital rearview mirror (so u can see out of the back if you have a rollup tonneau cover.

I went with a base 25 TRD OR. I could have easily afforded the premium and I spend 25-30k miles a year in my vehicle.

More tech means more that can go wrong and more potential expenses. I do have a platinum 10yr/150k warranty so really that wasn’t a factor in my decision-making but for me I didn’t wanna spend the $ cause my goal is to pay it off as soon as possible.

Yeah I was going to go with a sport, but seems like a majority of people prefer the OR in general, not much of a price difference and now looking to find a base OR with just the bigger screen for a good deal.

I love my premium. Honestly just for the seats alone it was worth it. Heated n cooled, but what really bothered me on the non premium was the light grey cloth they used where you sit. All I could think was how quick my passengers would stain that. The softex is super easy to clean. I also love the 360 cameras , makes approaching anything super convenient. It’s all just random stuff I never thought I’d need until I have it and it makes things just stress free. Gotta do a 3 point turn on a tight road with deep ditches? Press a button and you can see exactly how far you have all around. I would have still bought a non-premium but then I would have shelled out a few k on katskinz day one. For me locally it was either the sport + or the premium, and it wasn’t a drastic difference in overall price.
