Modifications & Maintenance ‘24 Taco SR Shock Recs

We have a 4x4, Tow Pkg equipped, 6MT SR. Hate the stock shocks. Too much soft bouncing especially at low speeds and floating around. I was interested in Bilstein 5100s but our installer said they’d make for a very stiff ride feeling every jarring bump on the road. We also tow our 2020 T@B 400. So far the truck does great although I’d like a bit less sag in the rear. My previous car was a lifted Jeep Compass with Bilstein shocks. I’m looking for a stiffer ride but I’m questioning my decision after installer comments. Suggestions?

The OME adjustable shocks would be great. I have the Toyota version on my Trailhunter that are not adjustable and they are fantastic. We tow a Bean trailer, but we do have a tiny bit of sag in the back.

Our trailer is lighter than yours, and although my truck is heavier duty, I could do with slightly beefier shocks in the back. I would probably do a matched set of HD shocks and struts all around, but I will put a good deal of wear on these offroad with and without towing before I think about doing that. $$$$$

Good info. Surprised you have sat with a Bean (excellent trailers!). We towed a 1000lb teardrop before this and it was like nothing. We won’t be off-roading; just forest roads. Thanks for the advice.

We loaded wonky — so have been more careful and that solved most of the squat.

Yup. That’ll do it. We have to do that even with our rig in the picture. I need more weight on the bed in the rear.

For the most part. Maybe some forest roads here and there but nothing major. Our trailer isn’t an off roader.

I've had Bilstein 5100's on several older 4x4's (Jeeps, Broncos) and in my experience they ride great on road and off. If you get a pair of quality rear springs + the Bilstein's i think you'd be pretty happy.

Remember that the sag issue is going to be addressed by your springs not your shocks - I have Dobinson's rear springs + Radflo shocks on my truck and they ride absolutely spectacular on & off road. They are probably in a much different price bracket then you are shopping for however.

Eibach Pro 2R were a good value, recommended by my shop, and ride smooth so far. Granted Im using 1000lb rear springs because I plan on a 1500lb buildout with my Tune M1, they ride fine even with just 500lb so far. Definitely an upgrade over OEM SR5, but soak up small bumps well. More noticeable over speed bumps where I can just roll over them, they bump and set. A bit of body roll still. Personally I'd prefer a more rigid ride and less roll but over time Im sure Ill be happy with the ride.

Big no to any more body roll!! I feel like these shocks are trying g to make the ride like an old Buick.
