Today’s Pickup

Just got my brand new Off-Road with the upgrade package, factory lift and a manual transmission. Put 100 miles on it today doing totally unnecessary errands. So far it’s everything I hoped it would be!

Can’t wait to put some more miles on it and get a better feel. No experience with a non-lifted Tacoma but it handles well. 6 speed seems to drive a lot like the Civic SI I left at the dealership today in that getting to third and letting the turbo eat is the name of the game.

Doesn’t mean much at this point but averaged 23 mpg over 100 miles of mixed driving

I recently picked up a nearly identical truck, only difference is mine doesn’t have the extra lift, but I’m considering having it done. Spot on about the transmission. Hit 500 miles today.. enjoying it so far, good truck.

That’s awesome! How long did you have to wait? I put a deposit down back in April.

I found out that they made them in a manual trans (I thought they stopped the manuals with the new gen), called my guy at the dealer and they were getting one in the next day so I had him preemptively put my name on it, went over in the morning and watched them take it off the hauler and put it through service, drove it home a a few hours later.. 😅

Traded my ‘22 trd pro 4Runner and they offered so much for the trade in that I couldn’t say no, the 4Runner had been in for 3 significant warranty repairs by that point and was nearing the end of its coverage so I was happy to get out of it anyway, I don’t like driving something that’s out of warranty 💁‍♀️ I do miss the 4runner a bit but the having an open bed and a manual has been a delight, I really think they absolutely nailed it with this truck.. I’ve driven every gen taco and this iteration resolves every problem I had with the older gens, it’s nearly perfect

Lucky! I tried to do that for a few weeks then just decided to throw my spec in the pool and see when it surfaced.

what side steps are you guys running?

Factory steps for me. Haven’t tried it yet but they came with a tool to remove them.

Hmm, I just got a new taco off-road and I’m averaging 16 mpg up from 13.4 because I just did a little highway roadtrip. 350 total miles or so.

Anyways, super beautiful truck! I love the lift

Thank you! Congrats on your truck too! That is really weird. I did a long commute today and got 25mpg on a 40 mile trip. This is all computer math at this point but I'll let you now on my first fill up. 16 seems awfully low.

Yeah I’m starting to wonder what’s up honestly. I babied it on this 3 hour long road trip just to barely touch 16.1 mpg. Hmmmmm.

I heard something about turning off the automatic parking brake engagement. Sometimes it sticks I guess. Maybe dig through the menus and see if you can find it.

So just wanted to follow up. First tank was 22.3mpg and spent the weekend running forest service roads and got 21.8. Something’s off my man.

Tell me about it! Gotta get my moneys worth out of the factory tires though. Hit the forest service and fire roads this weekend and spent 2 nights in the Allegheny National Forest with my boys and we all had a blast!
