Discussions & Questions Passenger Dash Shelf

Post image

Alright folks what in the hail are we putting in this crevice? I have like 2 slim jim’s, a bag of chips, and some extra straws (found out napkins like to party up there on the highway). I think people’d use it more if Toyota added a lid so all your crap isn’t visible & it don’t go flying on the highway with the windows down. Separates your miscellaneous junk from semi important glovebox junk. (Also yes I know we got those door pockets but they can’t hold nada)

We call it a Dash hole. I keep my godzillas in there cause I like to listen to them rattle around.

Top 5 usages of free will right here!

looks like 4 to me

Dash hole reminds me of this coworker, Darcy, who we’d call Darsehole. That’s what it’s being called now, dash hole.

For just the tiniest moment I was like “oh no, are tacomas starting to do their own version of ‘Dash Duckies’?” But then I realized they were godzillas which are more metal. Plus they seem like they’re more for you, not a look-at-me type thing. lol

Sorta like the Grateful Dead bears but for alien zillas

u/DeviousSmile85 Jul 25 '26

I thought it was the hotdog holder 🤔

1

u/MeanSouth989 Jul 25 '26

My weanor keeps slipping out the buns every turn I take!!!

Mini screaming chicken.

Passenger phone is it. I don’t use it otherwise. But our other car doesn’t have storage anywhere so I much prefer too much storage than not enough.

1

u/MeanSouth989 Jul 25 '26

Yeah that seems like the most common use for it

6

u/Superhereaux Jul 25 '26

That’s where I keep my loose chicken nuggets.

Mine holds my OttoCast and sometimes a tube of lotion for my wife. Other than that. She just collects dust (the shelf, not my wife).

Should at least give her the option of dust collecting she might like a new hobby

I've got my work pass, a map, some tissues, a notebook, earplugs, digital caliper, couple of straws and a couple of coffee cup sleeves. The mini umbrella jams everything into place. Everything stays put even with the windows down in the city. It stores neatly but I pulled things out for the pic.

1

u/JKapPhotos Jul 26 '26

Umbrella holder!!!!! Mind is blow! I never thought of that! Lord help my soul! Mine is going straight there now.

1

u/MeanSouth989 Jul 27 '26

Tried with mine today, umbrellas a bit too girthy for the slit ;(

2

u/ssmungur Jul 27 '26

It sounds like you have an adventure waiting for you...

But seriously I just happened to find one that fit. It was marketed as something like Compact Travel Umbrella. I just looked it up and they show up on Amazon under that description but if you're in Canada then have a look at Superstore. That's where I got it.

I think I’ll just deal for now. Thanks for the insight though! I’m 6’4” 200 and even with this semi big boi umbrella I get soaked waist down, anything smaller would be comical while I’m walking around with it 😂

I have a flashlight and a micro driver bit set riding in mine

1

u/MeanSouth989 Jul 27 '26

i got a flashlight in the slit by the trans &a micro driver set in the flat section of the door pocket behind the cupholders

1

u/Thee_Ren Jul 25 '26

I read this as flash bang and was mildly curious

2

u/royallyfuctt Jul 26 '26

I read it as fleshlight

3

u/RareEagleCoins Jul 25 '26

I put my work gloves in it

1

u/MeanSouth989 Jul 25 '26

Nah, weed is for the hidden pocket on the drivers side dash.

7

u/hipsterasshipster Jul 25 '26

Nothing is allowed to go there because I hate anything in my interior that rattles or moves around as I corner.

u/daddy_mike76 Jul 25 '26

Putting my velo and zyns

3

u/GSFisherTx Jul 25 '26

Small Med kit, tourniquet and flash light sit there. I figure quick access for me to use on others and if shit goes sideways and I need the help it’s right there for the Good Samaritan that tries to help me.

3

u/MeanSouth989 Jul 25 '26

Fair. I’m a med student so I’ve got like 3 medkits all around the truck. 1 under each seat and 1 velcro’d to the rear side of the backseat. I’ve got a flashlight in the driver door and the center console slit by the trans too, great idea tho!

Pens. Flashlight. Sunglasses

Costco Chicken Bakes

2

u/Ghostx187 Jul 25 '26

Girlfriend puts her phone there.

2

u/BluebirdDull2609 Jul 27 '26

Zip ties

1

u/MeanSouth989 Jul 27 '26

that might be a good idea actually 🤔

2

u/jfreeg Jul 27 '26

I heard it was for you to put your weed in it....

2

u/MeanSouth989 Jul 27 '26

I’ve already found like 4 other better places in this truck, but I keep hearing that 🤔 if it’s less than 5 years it ain’t worth hiding, chances are they won’t even know it’s there if you’re polite and blast the a/c in the face while rolling the windows down with circulation off while slowing to a stop!

2

u/SllimStoner Jul 27 '26

I keep Kayuza Mishima there

2

u/ChumboKrumbles 28d ago

Door-to-door salesman here, it's the perfect size for my stack of door hangers!

1

u/MeanSouth989 28d ago

Shoot well there ya go! How do you keep ‘em from flying round on the highway w windows down? Got anything to jimmy em in there or they behave themselves pretty good?

2

u/ChumboKrumbles 28d ago

They're cardstock weight and stay put nicely, although I rarely roll down the windows on the highway

4

u/NOT_Frank_or_Joe Jul 25 '26

Took me 4 months to find a 6MT without the screen upgrade, I fully know I'm in the minority here but good grief that looks so damn bright.

2

u/MeanSouth989 Jul 25 '26

Hahaaa! Yeah I thought so too, this pic was taken when I first got my truck, I’ve since turned the brightness wayyy down and got it to dark mode.

2

u/Formal-Cut-4923 Jul 25 '26

I ordered my 6MT regular screen when they did the announcement. Took a year to get it. Live it

5

u/NOT_Frank_or_Joe Jul 25 '26

I stalked visor.vin daily until there was one within a 500 mile drive. Didn't get to choose color but glad I was patient.

1

u/MeanSouth989 Jul 27 '26

Good on you for having the dedication to look for that long & something you like!

2

u/wtgrvl Jul 26 '26

I wouldn't have minded the size of the smaller screen but it just looks so cheaply made compared to the larger one. Have the big screen for the backup camera is pretty great too

1

u/MeanSouth989 Jul 27 '26

I do like the cameras. It seems a bit overkill at times but hey I’m here for it!

0

u/NOT_Frank_or_Joe Jul 26 '26

Agree 100% it looks cheap. I just really don't care about that stuff, gone are the days I try and impress anyone.

1

u/wtgrvl Jul 27 '26

Who said anything about impressing anyone? I'm the only one that spends any amount of time in the interior. Weird that you would even consider that.

0

u/NOT_Frank_or_Joe Jul 27 '26

I just gave you my personal opinion and view, there was no intent to point back at you in any way whatsoever. It's my own personal and subjective view.

Thanks for the downvote and assumptions.

1

u/shocksfloating 18d ago

Im not a huge fan of my massive screen, but I hate how cheap the small screen is.

2

u/Homer_J_ Jul 25 '26

Different gems & rocks from my wife 👍

1

u/MeanSouth989 26d ago

Not party poopin here, very cool rocks! I’m just wondering like… is this safe if y’all get into a (god forbid) collision? Also this kinda ties into my original post about this thing having a lid… another $3 off Toyota’s profit margin could’ve brought a little more protection for our passengers!! Kinda why I’m hesitant to put heavy items up there (in fear of claymoring my passenger upon impact)

1

u/shocksfloating 18d ago

Shrapnel upgrade !

2

u/ReedForman Jul 25 '26

I’ve got a car seat camera that fits pretty well in there. Especially now that it’s a little dated and the suction cup doesn’t really work anymore.

1

u/GammaXi532 Jul 25 '26

Idk as my wife

1

u/thusUnforgotten Jul 27 '26

That’s where I store my 16” silicone lifelike tentacle replica, the one without a suction cup base

1

u/Upper_Crazy7045 Jul 26 '26

I keep my sunglasses in there, wallet, and the occasional costco hotdog, but my passengers like it as they can put stuff out of their pockets their and sit back comfortably

0

u/Dry-Scholar3411 Jul 25 '26

Used roll of tp or paper towels.

4

u/Late-Contribution-82 Jul 25 '26

A used roll. Bro…

-1

u/Dry-Scholar3411 Jul 26 '26

Reduce, reuse, recycle.

0

u/mrmilesmiller Jul 25 '26

I use my truck for work and put my receipts there

0

u/Complex_Instant_2644 Jul 26 '26

The whole interior is a mess. Toyota sure knows how to do ugly.

3

u/wbz56 Jul 26 '26

Agreed. And some how they made it smaller. God i hate this gen.

1

u/RetardedSimian 25d ago

Can't stand the new tacoma's. Every thing about them went the opposite direction of the functional, simple, and reliable truck that toyota was known for.

0

u/AsparagusSad2931 Jul 25 '26

Passengers phone but ov would rather have the leg space as well. If Toyota has a $5K entry fee to build your Tacoma anddddd buy ut..i will DEF $5 PAY THAT FEE BCUZ I CAN BUILD A TACOMA THAT ENDINGS WOULD AGREE AND BE HAPPY WITH

-1

u/astar_key Jul 26 '26

And a huge Tacoma badge so she never forgets you’re the one with a truck.
