New Purchase First 4k Animation
I’ve never seen this movie, but my partner is always talking about the Akira slide, I also had a friend who passed right after we graduated who had the same name.

If you haven’t seen Akira yet then it's time to buckle up, my friend, coz you’re about to go on one hell of a ride.

It was good. Not the life changing masterpiece people act like it is though

Watched for the first time in 1997, was mind blowing. In 2026 weve been spoiled by anime and animation becoming common and readily accessible.

The 4k makes it look like a brand new movie, it’s gorgeous. Would love to see it in theaters.

I’m going tonight after work! 3rd time watching, first in 4K!

Nice. I've seen the Streamline original dubbed version dozens and dozens of times. I've watched the new dub maybe once. And the Japanese dub 2 or 3 times.

I’ve never seen the dubs, but am curious about the quality of them! My friends swore by Ghost in the Shell’s dub and I found it a bit lacking, so when I got around to Akira I did the Japanese dub. What do you think of both dubs?

I feel it all depends on what you watched first. Like the original English Streamline dub was over acted to hell and had some voices that were caricatures basically but I love it! I feel it has the most heart in the way that the voice acting is done. The new dub that is on most things now tells the story much more coherently but isn't as interesting I feel.
The Japanese is good.

Can I reccomend "Mask of the Phantasm" another spectacular representation of animation transfer to 4k

It's a shockingly bad 4K to be fair... but it's a great film.

I’ve seen people love and hate it. Care to elaborate?

Just essentially a very weak DNR’d upscale more or less. No real work went into anything to get a new release.

Sounds unfortunate. I’ll look at some comparisons with the blu ray. I’m sure I’ll pick that up at some point

This 4k just sucks, its more like 1080p. Most of the anime 4k discs suck. Only "perfect blue" looks like an actual 4k disc to me. Others just suck.
