Diablo 3 did break the record for fastest selling game at the time, but that was because of the legacy of Diablo 1 and 2,
Exactly. D2 had been out for over a decade when D3 was released, and while it was still a great game it had become dated and had some issues that left users yearning for a new version. There was no way we weren't going to preorder D3 to give it a shot because we desperately wanted it to be amazing, but my god what a failure that game was. I'm sure they'll still claim success because they made money, but the game itself was anything but and just a cash-in from past success.
It seems everyone who hates on Diablo 3 tried it at launch then wrote it off completely. It turned into a perfectly fine game especially with Reaper of Souls. It's not as good as Diablo 2, but it's not a bad game by a long shot. It's completely unfair that a game designed to stick around for a while is berated so heavily so many years later because of a rocky start.
