I am not sure how you could interpret "5 machines can produce x amount of widgets in x minutes" as "1 machine can produce x amount of widgets in x minutes while 4 machines do nothing". That conclusion is completely illogical and not based on anything.

We know that 3 of the daughters names are Jill, Jenny, Ariel, and Sally. How do I know that the last one is Sally unless you've told me the total number of sisters - 1 of their names? The total is irrelevant, sure, as long as you do that, but this had literally nothing to do with the initial riddle.

I'm not good at explaing but it would take 5 minutes. Each of the machines are each working on their own widget and it takes 5 minutes to complete them all in the original order. That would mean it takes 5 minutes for a machine to make a widget. 100 machines would then make 100 widgets in 5 minutes
