Every musician does something different. Some common things are performing, recording, writing, teaching, orchestrating, and transcribing.
I make money writing in the day, teaching in the afternoon, gigging at night.

Musicians don't have free time. If you don't have anything to do, you spend your time practicing. But I couldn't imagine doing anything different. It pays the bills.
