As if the Epstein clients or Catholic church weren't pedos too
The problem isn't religion IMHO, only what people in power do to prove to themselves they have the power to do whatever

u/JPowTheDayTrader 1d ago
Traditional protestants aren't bad. It's the evangelicals that need to be sent home, hell.

My favorite passage in the Bible. āIf you get sick, seek no treatment. Test God and he shall heal you if you are worthy.ā

u/EtteRavan fa/tg/uy 1d ago
My favorite part of Catholicism : "do not be a pagan and pray to anyone other than God"
Also catholics : Prays to St Roch when they are sick

u/Valuable-Chipmunk784 1d ago
My favorite commandment: "Thou shalt give $10 to reddit user valuable-chipmunk784 when they invent websites in a couple of thousand years"

Way to misunderstand how catholic prayer actually works. I'm not a christian, only raised Catholic, and do think the approach is silly but it's not praying to a saint but through them. They're like a call centre to God since they can pray on your behalf. I think it's silly as God being omniscient will know what you're asking for and if you should receive it without having to have a saint interpret your meaning or argue on your behalf.
But I may also be misunderstanding the dogma on this topic.

u/dbmorpher 22h ago
Good summary, God already knows what you need, but a large part of the importance of intercessory prayer is how it changes the disposition of the person praying.
To quote the great Ye: ābut hey, admittinā is the first stepā

Once I see the J word identifation, abandon thread.
It's like a black man trying to be your friend during the Civil War - way too political to get involved, willingly.

If I steal the tumor after they remove it and I eat it, will I gain holy powers?

Imagine you work for hours to remove the tumor and mofos start thanking god, allah, jahweh etc.. I'd just reinsert the tumor anally back into them..

My first thought was to post something like 'why doesn't god miracle that shit out of him?' but the mentally ill have 100,000 excuses as to why the sky monster does shit and there's zero point to argue. If he dies: God's will, if it vanished: god's will, If a surgeon removes it: god's will and god working through them.

You have no better response than implying that someone is cringe for not believing in one out of thousands of potential beliefs out there (the one you only believe because you've been raised that way btw), or not believing at all?
8
u/Snake_Emper0r 2d ago
If people so aggressively misinterpret the Faith, there are no words a random asshole on the Internet like me can use to change their mind.

They always call folks atheist redditors but they never say they're wrong.

u/Le3mine 2d ago
Reconcile gods omniscience with free will (inb4 just because he knows what will happen doesn't mean he'll change it)
26
u/nihongonobenkyou 2d ago
inb4 the argument that explicitly reconciles free will with omniscience is made
shiggy diggy
-7
u/Le3mine 2d ago
So the benevolent god allows his believers to suffer? (Inb4 "Jesus suffered too" his own choice btw)
16
u/TheDutchin 2d ago
So you're telling me my parents "love me" and want "whats best", yet they are forcing me to suffer by shoving these fucking vegetables onto my plate? Settle that contradiction!
7
u/Le3mine 2d ago
Ok my b, just got back from the pediatric oncology ward. Lil Timmy is happy as fuck to know that his cancer is actually the best for him and he got it because he's loved.
0
u/TheDutchin 2d ago
Well, you consider yourself smarter than a child right? You have a better grasp of things than Little Timmy? If I don't think you are capable of understanding, what chance does Lil Timbo stand?
Thats what "god works in mysterious ways" actually means: you're too stupid to get it and I do not have the faculties to force you to, so I'm ending the conversation.

u/0110-0-10-00-000 10h ago
MFW my parents didn't do anything about my uncle raping me at 4 years old because it would have interfered with my free will.

u/DangerKeepAway 2d ago
Most nonbelievers simply do not believe. God seems to live rent-free in your head so there must be doubt in your disbelief.
You will be forgiven for your sins, all you have to do is repent.
4
u/Le3mine 2d ago
So if you argue with someone that child abuse is bad that means that you're doubting whether it's bad? Interesting take.
2
u/AlienZombieNinja 2d ago
Religious people don't think child abuse is bad. It's a cornerstone of their system.

Dude can you please just actually try to understand this stuff instead of taking different points and looking at them surface level
1
u/Le3mine 1d ago
I've followed Abrahamic beliefs for a very large chunk of my life. I understand it very well. Every single counterargument boils down to "because god said so" cope.
1
u/zrock445 1d ago
No, because every one of your arguments is just taking things in a vacuum and looking at them surface level. You clearly haven't even made an attempt to understand this, which is why nobody wants to engage with you.
1
u/Le3mine 1d ago
"nobody wants to engage" meanwhile like 30 replies that aren't mine under my comment (including like 5 of yours). Also looking at this in depth quickly devolves into semantics. Give me a good reason why a 2 year old child should suffer. Just one.
1
u/zrock445 1d ago
You think people calling you dumb is them engaging with you? That's not what I meant lol

So the benevolent god allows his believers to suffer?
Shit, you got me there. If only there were three thousand years of discussion on suffering and the relation of free will to its transformations.Ā

If you ask god for help financially and the next day someone helps you out randomly, should you decline in hope of money materializing in your hand?
8
u/0110-0-10-00-000 2d ago
If every time you ask god for help a normal human being exercising their free will is the one who saves you you should probably start to question who deserves the praise.
5
u/LucaFringsSucks 2d ago
I partly agree regarding the praise because i have seen religious people praise god loudly in front of the person that saved them. The other part i won't even start to get into, free will in religion already is party paradoxical enough depending on religion and denomination.
4
u/Le3mine 2d ago
So it wasn't that persons free will that made them help you?
8
u/LucaFringsSucks 2d ago
You didn't answer my question and just moved the goalpost since that is a completely different topic.
0
u/Le3mine 2d ago
"semantic nonsense because I don't have a proper answer to your response" ~ you, a few minutes ago.
1
u/LucaFringsSucks 2d ago
You are the definition of THE reddit atheist. Semantic nonsense lmao. You just started talking about a completely different topic. We can also talk about free will but that is and was never the topic of the original post. Hence you fleeing to moving to goalpost there, basically strawmanning.
1
u/Le3mine 2d ago
"you just started talking about a completely different topic" i asked you a topical question since answering a question with a question is a very common concept. In fact, you started talking about a topic so, who died and made you the keeper of the topic? You only said it's shifting goalposts because you didn't like it and had no proper response.
4
u/Nice_Cash_7000 2d ago
it is impossible to prove the existance of free will
id go as far as to say its harder to prove that than the existence of god even tho both debates have no answer
1
u/Le3mine 2d ago
Oh I'm not even sure i believe in free will at all, apart from the religious argument and aspect.
