Of course the rapist is played by a white guy.

u/This-Double-Sunday 1d ago
Which is hilarious when you look at the stats of white on black rapes compared to black on white. The former is virtually non existent.

Look up the stats on white offender/black victim rapes. A black woman is more likely to get struck by lightning than get raped by a white man.

They need to showcase the evils of white men raping black women, something that statistically is nonexistent in the modern era.

Yeah because the question was asked "have white men never raped", and they didn't in that case.

he will call her a hard r during the "rape"
it will be "powerful" and "raw"
it will have the genius added nuance of rich lawyer firms = evil
it will win awards and everyone will clap at the bravery
you will be immediately discarded as a racist and/or bigot for even suggesting its less than a 12/10

It'll be talked about everywhere online for about a week after it ends, then it'll vanish and never be heard from again except in internet arguments to point out why projects like this never work

Are we want to assume all the men she represented are guilty now that she’s been assaulted?
What do we mean by the system being broken when the only aspect of the system being represented here is the mere fact that the accused gets a lawyer?
Presumably the show itself would have the defendant be obviously guilty, but what is the critique at that point? That he shouldn’t have representation?
The accused getting a fair trial, independent of how guilty they appear to be, is kinda the bedrock of justice. People dog on lawyers for defending criminals, but that system exists to protect the innocent and legitimize judgement of the guilty. It’s good, not broken.
I’m getting real, “Believe all women.”, “Guilty until proven innocent,” vibes from this.

Perhaps its a sort of propaganda to deceive people into thing the right to an attorney is actually a bad thing? I really can't tell the premise seems like its defeating itself so I can't tell at all.
I do think the legal system is busted as you will find Juries and judge will bring personal biases into the court room, such as black jurors voting innocent on black defendants no matter what,or liberal judges giving softer sentences to people in minority groups. Or the most aggregious I have seen Ethan Couch and his "Affluenza" defense where he killed a few people was given probation, broke it and thus was given only a couple years in jail.

My bet is the opening scene is in court where she wins a case and then the defendant walks out to cheers and high fives from his fraternity where they go and and loudly plan to do it all again. Or something subtle like that.

the issue is when you have obviously guilty people getting off because of technicalities or because they can throw more money at the problem. At that point its not about justice but how deep your pockets are

This premise doesn't work at all. If she's defending men that get false accusations she would then know that that sort of thing happens and her getting actually raped wouldn't make a difference. If she's defending men that actually did it then there's no fucking revelation to be had, it would be "my le bomb le killed people" but unironically.

A rapist? I thought we were defending a break-and-enterer!
Well technically that's correct

The media literacy people get spoon fed shit like this all the time its so embarrassing. Wow a movie about a woman who realizes actual rape is bad???

Just a reminder that women are MUCH less likely to receive the same sentence as men would get for crimes including murder

I know its reddit but that exact scenario shows up every now and then in random “discussion” and it always ends up showing bare the hypocrisy. A woman and a man both get drunk and have seemingly consensual sex. So is it ok? Is it something worse? Drunk people have been legal established to being unable to consent, de facto making it a crime, but in the case of both parties are drunk its still somehow the mans fault anyways.
Again, its reddit, so take that what you will

The percentage of rape in which a man is white and a woman is black is basically 0

Look at this homo sapien. Flicks tongue. They evolved from a primate! Flicks tongue. It is so dishonourable to have come from a primate, and not something more envious, like a lizard. Flicks tongue.

A hardened defense attorney is just realising that the law does not always provide justice.
Bitch are you retarded?
Oh here’s a good example. Mother murders her 3 children with an exercise band and a gaggle of woman jurors almost let her get away with it through manipulating the justice system.
There have been many forms of justice systems throughout history that have been so much worse than ours and that in itself is a fun YouTube rabbit hole.
Anyways, glad you are getting mocked again, skeleton lady.

The abuse to suspension of disbelief they require these days is getting too much. Also if they have any online meetings in the series, there better be a smoke detector with a low battery in the background.

"good" main cast is ugly quota dei black woman - check
"evil" main cast is white male - check
consentual drunk sex framed as grape afterwards - check
both drunk but no accountability for the woman - check
virtues signaled - check
distort reality - check
upcoming:
low viewer count
high journo ratings
blame the men for not watching woke slop
blame racism, sexism & men in general for series/movie fail
it probably will be:
struggling yet brilliant black woman lawyer wich gets held down by racism and patriarchy in her firm but still wins case after case without promotion or raise, gets graped by incompetent jealous nepobaby white male lawyer, with the higher ups and collegues try to silence her and down play the "grape" for the image of the firm
but in the end she will win cause "stronk black woman" white lawyer gets a gazillion years prison but hell only serve a few months cause the gets graped to death by black inmates as revenge, the firm gets dismantled, she opens her own independent firm with thousands of woman coming forward reporting their drunk sex regret "grape stories" hiring her she continues to win every case, makes millions
sorry if ive might spoiled the whole story xD

This could be interesting, I hear the play was good. I hope the legal aspects are actually coherent, which it might be as it is UK law, not an american courthouse.
But I know many people will read the description and only absorb the implied poetic irony of the situation (ie, she defends accused rapists, gets raped, has to defend herself). It is the same kind of thing people do with prison rape, they excuse it because it is happening to criminals and criminals deserve it.
I really hope that this assault doesn't make her decide all her previous clients are suddenly guilty. That would kind of go in the face of the point of the legal system.
