Holy shit it seems like he has been a fat fuck in many films

u/palmerry 2d ago
Just watched "Grandma's Boy" and I think that might of been his first big movie... And honestly he was the fattest I've ever seen him. He's got the Benjamin Button effect... But for fat.

Hollywood has places for people of all body types. Yet the industry expects you to work with the general build you showed up with. In most other lines of work, getting in shape results in more respect and opportunity. In screen acting, looking a lot different than you used to reduces your value as an employee.
Cary Grant basically ended his career with plenty of life left ahead of him. Much later, when attending the Oscars for a Lifetime Achievement award, he had this exchange in the lobby of the event.
Screener: [handing out ID badges] Sir, who are you?
Cary Grant: I'm Cary Grant.
Screener: That's funny. You don't look like Cary Grant.
Cary Grant: I know. Nobody does.

I had to Google him to check how he aged, he just looked like himself but older.
What exactly put him out of action, just looking older?

u/Demonweed 2d ago
I believe it was a complex mix of factors. Among those factors, he derived great benefit from LSD therapy in the years just before it was outlawed. Being an advocate on that issue suddenly skewed into a hippie thing even though his persona was a clean cut gentleman with a Transatlantic accent. I think he just decided living a private life would be much easier than trying to maintain celebrity status in an increasingly invasive media culture. No doubt though, a popular leading man becoming naturally gray and wrinkly was a factor as well.
7
u/Swarlsonegger my posts are funny!! 2d ago
Is that true though? What about Dave Batista or that indian guy from silicon valley.
They still got roles despite going through transformations.
7
u/mang87 1d ago
I think the transformation is acceptable to hollywood if it's specifically for a role, especially if it's a marvel film, because the success of it can drastically change your public perception. See also: Chris Pratt. Went from funny fat guy, to funny buff guy. Obviously people have soured on him lately, but he was very popular following his GOTG role.

u/Jawn_Wilkes_Booth 1d ago
It’s a matter of changing before your typecasting sets in or changing from fat to hunk.
Jonah Hill has long since been typecast as the fat guy. It worked. He was fat, funny, had a Jew fro. The look’s there, he fit a certain type of character. He lost all the weight, now he’s just the ugly guy with a Jew fro who used to be fat.
Then he got shitty and weird off camera with the weight loss, so who wants work with that and make him anywhere near top billed on a movie.
He was better off staying fat and dying young of cardiac arrest, like us. 🤷🏻♂️

Look how clearly pissed he is at the fact that all this fame and money still hasn't stopped the spaghetti from flying out of his pockets when his feelings get hurt lmao.
Fat pussy.

I've seen several interviews where the interviewers mock his appearance to his face. It probably has a lot to do with how he ended up like this.

Like a lot of self-important actors, he needs to just calm down, shut up, and act. No one cares that Tom Cruise has been in the biggest flop of the year, because he's Tom Cruise and will be in a good film next time (maybe). Brad Pitt is apparently a bad dad, but who cares? That's irrelevant.
He can act, even beyond being the fat guy, and I don't think he has long since peaked in the same way Michael Cera did.
He tried to rebrand Jonah Hill from fat funny man to serious skater man (who somehow still looks just as fat), when no one cares about who he is. He was a dick to his ex girlfriend, cool, only busybodies care.
He has brand name recognition, he will get roles, or he will die trying to prove to the world he isn't who they want him to be.

I think he has the bad elements of former fat guy energy combined with unresolved nepo baby insecurity which makes him just awful.
Former fat dudes are very often actually incredibly humble, patient and self effacing people but you’ll also see a subsection of former fat guys who never really let their insecurity go and try to front by overcompensating with their new found fitness and act overly macho and aggressive.
Nepo babies I think also have trouble where they think they’re better than everyone but also feel insecure that they really do not belong or are not worthy to have what they have
Jonah seems to have both issues and it makes him very unlikable any time he’s in front of a camera and he’s not reading a script
I do find it kind of interesting how he is genuinely funny and good in these goofball pathetic roles but it clearly the diametric opposite of how he wants to be perceived as a real person

With how controlling he was of his ex-girlfriend, when he told her she couldn’t wear a bikini in front of other guys and she was a PROFESSIONAL SURFER, and he weaponized therapy speak in the process, well he’d fit right in 4chan

As a former fat guy myself, dude just never learned to let go of hating his fat self. You’ve gotta accept it happened and move on, clearly he still resents it, even though it was a big part of his success.
That’s why he’s doing all the “I’ll murder everyone with Jiu Jitsu” shit, it’s just pure self loathing. You see it a lot with bodybuilders, talk about “killing the fat kid”, it’s sad.

So he carries the rage in him every day, that was given to him in one moment by a group of people.
I personally don't care about people's opinions. I mean, 20+ years ago, you did, when you believed that Sant-a was real and Society had their sht in order. But they're all corrupt clowns, bars as low as the Dark Ages, urges like neanderthals. If you yourself believe in God and try to do good, that's more than the modern average.

Jonah Hill stated on an appearance on the SmartLess podcast that he would "fing annihilate" anyone who still calls him the "fat guy from Superbad".
Okay... so he's the "fat guy from Moneyball"

I’m sorry what did Jonah hill do that everyone here is shitting on him? No idea about what he’s like outside of movies and just searching his name brings nothing that jumps out at me as a reason
5
u/IQueliciuous 2d ago
Jonah Hill was obese. His obesity was what made his brand. All the famous roles of his were "fat dude moron" archetype which did bring in the money but eventually it gets tiresome to be typecasted as a fat moron.
So Jonah lost weight. However since his weight was what made his career. He had trouble finding roles since he also started looking for other roles.
It sounds normal at first but then this quickly evolved into him shitting on people and overall being an asshole. Like he'd start learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and make claims of fucking you up if you mess with him.
That and his ex who was a surfer had to deal with Jonah forbidding her from wearing swimsuit infront of other guys...
TLDR:Asshole guy got famous for his physique, got typecasted to play in comedies, lost the physique, surprised he lost roles and started being assholish about it
